An Important New Work for Law Schools and Law Students'

THE ELEMENTS OF THE LAW

OF

N:GOTIABLi INSTRUM[NTS BY

Hon. JOHN W. DANIEL, Author of " Daniel on Negotiable Instruments,"

AND

Hon. CHARLES A. DOUGLASS, of the Bar of the District of Columbia, and Professor of the Law of Nego-

tiable Instruments in Georgetown University of Washington, D. C.

Price In law canvas $3.00 Net, or $3.25 delivered; in sheep $3.50 Net, or $3.75 delivered.

This work is designed primarily for the use of law students and in- structors in law schools. It is based upon the well known and popular work of "Daniel on Negotiable Instruments," and the lectures upon the subject by Professor Douglass after eight years' experience as instructor in the law of Negotiable Instruments in the law school of the George- town University of Washington, D. C.

So much of the standard work by Senator Daniel as would be appro- priate to a student's book has been used, but the subject matter has been re-arranged and transposed, and new matter added. Everything has been done that seemed to the authors necessary to make the sub- ject both intelligible and attractive.

Especial care has been taken to regulate and apportion the space de- voted to the many subjects as their relative importance, from the stand- point of the student, requires. It is believed that in this respect this work differs materially from, and is superior to most, if not all, other students' book on this subject.

One of the special features of the book is the orderly and logical se- quence of discussion. The work is divided into five books, and the sub- ject taken up in logical and chronological order. As the system and classification constitute nearly half of the battle with the law student in mastering any given subject, unusual attention has been given to this, in the structure and arrangement of this new book.

The full text of the important new statute, "The Nego!tiable Instru- ments Law," which has become law in nineteen States, and also in the Territory of Arizona and District of Columbia, is given in an Appendix.

"Keys to Success" ,, -~___ _ i i _ _-- I

Mr. Edward Bok, Editor The

Ladies' Home Journal, tells young I men how, without help or in-

fluence, they can rise to the

highest success.

I

SENT FREE The present century abounds with examples of young men who, alone and unaided,

have risen to the very highest pinnacle of Success in their chosen callings. The great captains of industry of to-day were the poor boys of thirty years ago.

They made their opportunities; they depended solely upon their own personal efforts. It was not a wealthy parent, nor an influential friend who started these men on the road to fortune.

What, then, is that irresistible force which enabled them to overcome all obstacles. Every ambitious young man is searchingfor this secret. He believes that honesty,

sobriety, perseverance, and determination are essentials in the foundations on which to build a successful career, and yet he realizes that he must possess something more than these prerequisites, if he would achieve conspicuous success.

Those who study the lives of successful men will tell you that they all possess a certain force of character-the power to mould and direct the opinions of others.

John D. Rockefeller has often said that he attributes his success largely to his ability to influence and control the minds of men. How to acquire that power

is told by Mr. Edward Bok, in his lecture "Keys to Success," the most inspiring address to young men ever heard from an American plat-

ut form. Mr. Bok does not preach theory; he gives good, sound, practical O ff \ advice. He tells young men just how they can develop those qualities Comer. which contribute to success, and win both money and power. Every

word is suggestive and inspiring. The publishers of this lecture are John D \! desirous that every reader of Yale Law Journal should possess a

Joh D. . ., r,n \ copy of " Keys to Success," and they will send, complimentary, Morris Co. a complete copy of this address to every reader who will write 1201 CHESTNUT ST., for it, enclosing 6 cents to cover cost of mailing. " Keys to

1ge WORKS OF A MASTER

Bishop on Contracts. $6 net. It has the best statement of the principles of the law of contracts. The cases cited are in point. (II,ooo were examined by Mr. Bishop.) It covers many points not elsewhere treated. It is a wonderful example of terse and lucid expression and clear reasoning.

Bishop on Non-Contract Law. $6 net. The same condensations, which were so effectual in Bishop's enlarged "Con-

tracts," have enabled the author, without neglecting particulars, to give this wide scope to the present work; embracing, besides the field of Torts, the RIGHTS in things not bargained about.

Bishop on Marriage, Divorce, and Separation. 2 Vols. $12 net. On the topics treated within these volumes the law is stated as it will be held

by every court, if the question is duly argued, and such helps to the argument are furnished as the space will permit.

The purpose of all is to render the law uniform and known.

Bishop's New Criminal Law. 2 Vols. $12 net. covers the entire field of the substantive law of crime, stated in the order of its principles and underlying reasons, and illustrated by as many specific instances as were deemed necessary to completeness and distinctness. The whole is sus- tained by multitudinous references to American and English cases, embracing nearly the entire mass given in the books of reports.

Bishop's New Criminal Procedure. 2 Vols. $12 net. The work consists of an exposition of the law of Criminal Evidence, Pleading

and Practice, presented upon its legal reasons and sustained by citations from more than twenty=seven thousand cases, and all is given from the standpoint of to-day. The subject is one which covers the part of the criminal law most used by practitioners, where therefore, the cases are the most abundant.

Bishop on Statutory Crimes. $6 net. The on wohi pubjlihed upon this subject. THIRD EDITION.

By MARION C. EARLY, of the St. Louis bar.

Embracing a lucid discussion of rules governing the interpretation of stat- utes; particular principles applicable in criminal cases; leading doctrines of the common law of crimes and discussions of the specific statutory offenses as to both law and procedure; also a discussion of nearly every statutory offense known in our States as respects the law, the indictment, the evidence; and one or more brief forms of the indictment are given for nearly every offense.

Bishop's Directions and Forms. $6 net. SECOND EDITION By HON. WINSLOW EVANS, of the Peoria, Illinois bar.

This work of Dr. Bishop is the fruit of his many years of experience as an author and his great learning in the criminal law. He has given to the profes- sion not merely the forms that have in particular cases been held sufficient, but those which are beyond question safe.
