Mobi l i ty i s impor tant or everyone , but

Our desire to be able to travel reely has never been so great.
And thanks to prosperity and technology we have this mobil-
ity. But this reedom also has a downside: the increased level
o road trac leading to more complexity and above all the
human toll. Every year over 1.2 million people are killed in road
trac accidents worldwide. And another 50 million are injured.
Trac is also having a signicant impact on our envirement:
high concentrations o particulates and ozon in the atmos-
phore have been linked to bronchial problems in urban areas.
It is no wonder that the World Health Organisation (WHO)
considers road trac as a serious global health and develop-
ment problem.

Who are the most vulnerable
Road trac accidents involve people rom all age groups but
aect young people the most in relative terms. In the case o
children between the ages o 4 and 14 road trac accidents
are the second most common cause o death ater bronchial
inections and beore malaria. In the case o people between
the ages o 15 and 29 road trac accidents are the number one
cause o death throughout the world.
What can be done
One o the most important tasks o any government is to protect
its citizens. Investments in the saety o vehicles, roads and inra-
structures, specically ocussing on pedestrians and cyclists can
reduce the number o victims. But the largest, most unpredict-
able actor is still human behaviour.
Control and correct
Clear trac laws and suitable enorcement are critically impor-
tant in controlling trac behaviour. Studies have shown that by
reducing speed by just 5%, atal crashes will be reduced by 20%.
Gatsometer makes an important contribution to trac saety
with innovative solutions that aect trac behaviour. The eec-
tiveness and reliability o our systems are proven on a daily basis
all over the world.
The above gures have been taken rom the Global status report on road saety:
time or action. WHO, 2009.

saer, simpler, greener
We see it as our mission to make road trac saer and less
complex and to limit the impact o trac on the environment.
Experience and technology enable us to provide the most ad-
vanced solutions or reducing red-light and speed violations,
managing trac fows and enorcing environmental zones.
Solutions to improve safety
Since our oundation more than 50 years ago Gatsometer
has provided more than 45.000 installations o red-light and/
or speed enorcement equipment. Our systems can also be
used or monitoring railway crossings and or tracing a specic
vehicle in the case o an AMBER Alert.
Solutions to improve traffic flow
The increasing intensity and complexity o trac fows require
eective trac management.
Gatsometer oers opportunities to control trac fows. Enorc-
ing dedicated lanes or buses, taxis and trucks with Gatsometer
cameras encourages the required behaviour. In addition to
improving trac fow, Gatsometers trac control systems also
have a positive eect on saety and the environment.

Solutions to improve air quality
Many countries are worried about the air quality in their towns
and cities. Designating certain areas as environmental zones
and introducing emissions-related tolls are policy measures that
help to reduce emissions o harmul substances. This enables
governments to meet standards, such as those set within the
European Union.
A road closure system can be used to make town centres a
no-go area or polluting vehicles. Environmental zones can be
automatically enorced by using an eective solution supplied
by Gatsometer.
Tailormade for you
Gatsometer can provide you with a ull range o solutions to
boost road saety, enhance trac fow and improve air quality.
Depending on your requirements we can provide tailor-made
solutions: rom advice and design to installation, system integra-
tion, training and management.

Gatsometers history
Speed as a career
Maurice Gatsonides, the ounder o Gatsometer, is the inventor
o the worlds rst reliable speed-measuring device. As a motor
sport an, car manuacturer and winner o the Monte Carlo rally
in 1953 he knew what he was talking about. His rst speed-
measuring device was intended or sports purposes, but he soon
spotted the opportunities it provided or saving lives in trac.
Always inventive and innovative
Since the introduction o the rst speed-measuring device
in 1958 Gatsometer has continuously developed and manu-
actured new and improved precision equipment and has
sold this all over the world. Now, thanks to a comprehensive
network o agents, it sells its products in over ty countries.
We have always been at the oreront o development: with the
red-light camera (1965), radar and detection loops or speed
measurement (1970), mobile radar speed control (1980),
sotware in memory cards (1988), digital cameras (1997), sys-
tems that capture both licence plates and dr ivers aces (2004),
the Loopless Trigger Radar (2005) and, recently, AMBER Alert,
the Amcam and the Monolite.
