Gospel: Luke 1: 1-4; 14-21 Just as Ezra, in our first reading, read to the people from Scripture, Jesus reads from the book of the prophet Isaiah about the Servant of the Lord. He an-nounces that he is the fulfillment of Scripture. Then he tells the crowd in the synagogue that he is the one sent by God. His presence is their guarantee that a "year of

favor," or time of salvation, has begun. All eyes are glued on him as he puts down the scroll and takes his seat. 1.)In this reading, Jesus identifies himself as the Messiah, as the one Isaiah foretold would come to the people. He did this at the weekly worship at his local synagogue. The gospel tells us that he was in the habit of worshipping there weekly. Why did Jesus wor ship weekly? What does this habit of Jesus' tell us about the impor tance of our weekly worship? Where do we meet Jesus, the Mes siah, on a weekly basis?

Administrator’s Corner: Jan. 27, 2013 3rd Sunday of the Year - C

What did Jesus teach in the synagogue? The Gospel today tells the beginning of Jesus’ teaching in the syna-gogues of Galilee. It makes several points. First, Jesus entered the synagogue on the Sabbath according to his custom. He regularly took time to worship, showing us the impor-tance of communal worship. Second, Jesus read the scriptures, explained their meaning, and finally applied the scripture to a situation. In the process he taught us how to approach the Bible. Some Bible passages can be confus-ing so explanation is important when we read Scripture. Applying its lessons in our lives is equally important. Jesus came into the world to bring glad tidings to us. Third, Jesus provided details of his mission: “to bring glad tidings to the poor…to proclaim liberty to captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to announce a year of favor from the Lord.” This passage from Isaiah is a prophecy of the Messiah. When Jesus said, “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing,” he confirmed for his listeners that he was the awaited Messiah. God bless you. Fr. Alex

Tercer domingo del Ciclo C. Enero 27, 2013 ¿Porqué Jesús enseñó en la Sinagoga?

El Evangelio de hoy nos habla de que la vida pública de Jesús co-menzó en la sinagoga de Galilea. Del Evangelio aprendemos: Primero: Jesús entró en la sinagoga el sábado como de costumbre. El normalmente se tomaba su tiempo para orar. De esta manera nos enseña la importancia de rezar en comunidad. Segundo: Jesús lee las Sagradas Escrituras, explica su significado y finalmente las pone en práctica aplicándolas en diferentes situacio-nes. En ese proceso, El nos enseña cómo entender la Biblia. Esta explicación es importante ya que algunos pasajes pueden ser difíciles de entender. Así mismo, es importante aplicar las lecciones que la Biblia nos enseña en nuestra vida diaria. Recuerden que Jesús vino al mundo para traernos la Buena Nueva. Tercero: Jesús nos provee detalles acerca de su misión: traer la Bue-na Nueva a los pobres, proclamar libertad para los cautivos, hacer que los ciegos vean, que los oprimidos se liberen, y para anunciar un año de favores del Señor. Este pasaje de Isaías es una profecía. Jesús le confirma a sus seguidores que él era el Mesías al decirles: “Escuchen, que hoy se cumple este pasaje de las Escrituras”. Que Dios los bendiga. Luke 4: 18-a
