Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

From Fr. PaulFrom Fr. PaulFrom Fr. PaulFrom Fr. Paul

Dear Friends,

Lent will begin this Wednesday, February 14. May we embrace this annual 40 day season to convert our hearts, turning back to the Lord and each other in service. Please see the Ash Wednesday schedule below.

Today, February 11, is observed as the World Day of the Sick throughout the Church. This annual celebration on this day was begun in 1992 by Pope John Paul II as he began his struggle with Parkinson's disease. It is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, at whose shrine in southern France many sick people have been cured since the mid-1800s. This year, Pope Francis invites us to reflect on Mary's maternal care for us, as she was called by her Son on the Cross to "behold your son." From that hour, Jesus' Mother became our mother too.

To care for and to pray for those who are sick are some of the greatest acts of service we can give to each other. And, those who are sick often inspire us with their example of patience and faith.

We ask the Lord Jesus, Who endured suffering and death for our sakes, to be close to those who are sick and to their caregivers. And may Mary, our Mother, help her sons and daughters in their needs.

Father Paul
