Dear Friends,
On this week of Independence Day, we give thanks to almighty God for all His blessings on our nation, and ask for His continued blessing and guidance, so that we can truly be "one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
July 1 (yesterday) was the Feast of St. Junipero Serra, the "apostle of the western United States," who came from Mallorca in Spain as a Franciscan missionary to the New World in 1748. As the Declaration of Independence was being proclaimed in the eastern U.S., he was in the midst of building one of the eight California missions that he personally founded. Despite a painful leg injury, he traveled up and down the California coast, preaching the Gospel to the natives, and also fighting for their rights against the abuses of the Spanish military. Pope Francis canonized him in 2015 during his visit to Washington DC. Junipero Serra's motto was "always forward." His courage and love helped to lay the foundation for present-day California.
Happy Independence Day! May our faith in the Lord inform and guide our contributions to our nation and our communities, through the intercession of St. Junipero Serra. "Always forward!"

Then consider this: each Sunday this summer, on a week-by-week basis (with the exception of Sundays, July 9th and 16th), we would like to invite anyone who is interested to come to the choir loft at 11:15AM for coffee, a rehearsal and to join members of the adult choir in singing at the Noon Mass.
The summer provides a "low-commitment" approach to finding out how you might fare as a choir singer. The response has been great these last few years, and the summer has gained us some wonderful new choir members!
