Dubbo South Public School Respect, Care, Cooperation & Responsibility From Sharon’s Desk Parent/Teacher Conferences are being held throughout the week. With the COVID period and restricons, staff are stepping out to work and communicate with our parents through ZOOM plaorm or by phone—as requested by parents. A first for staff here at South but engaging for all involved. It will be good to receive some feedback as to the success of this approach this year. Please take the opportunity to ask quesons and hear exactly how your childs learning and social gains are performing and growing at South. New Planning Cycle 20212024 is underway. In this rather challenging me with COVID, interacng and obtaining community feedback and input is a lile more challenging. We are taking the opportunity across our school to seek some input from our parents around your childs learning. Over the next 2 weeks staff will be gathering answers to 3 quesons about Mathemacs learning and engagement. Any informaon will be appreciated, in seeing how we can move forward with Numeracy at school. Focus areas with our targets will be based around data and improvements in both Numeracy and Literacy/Reading. See the back of this newsleer. New Behaviour Strategy Plan is in draſt form by the Department of Educaon and is planned for delivery from the beginning of 2021. The Department has asked for community feedback on a draſt strategy to support posive student behaviour and create effecve and engaging classrooms. The Minister said It would improve long term educaonal outcomes for some of our most disadvantaged students.Reading the draſt strategy will certainly have great implicaons for managing student behaviour across schools. From a school perspecve it is important that the safety and wellbeing of students and staff is at the forefront. The improved learning outcomes of children need to be the bones of our programs and delivery across school. I urge you to look over this document for input and have your say. Please read the Student Behaviour Strategy Plan at www.edu.nsw.gov.au and email your responses to [email protected]. This is a very important document which will effect staff, students and parents. A Zoom P&C Meeng will be held this Wednesday evening at 6pm. Please register at [email protected] to receive the invite and Zoom link. Come along with suggesons, ideas or just to listen in on what is happening across the school. See you on the screen. Tech watches are beginning to be worn by some students across the school lately. Like phones (that are to be handed in every day to the office) the watches can take both photos/videos. There has been recently an occasion where a watch was used by a child to take some photos of students whilst in the playground. This is not allowed. Please ensure your child does not wear these watches to school. Confidenality around taking photographs without permission is a serious issue! Thank you for your support with this. Safe Travelling to and from school—It is very important that parents and carers dropping off and picking up children from school role model the best behaviour with road safety. Lately, I must say, I have witnessed some very poor and just silly behaviour from adults. You need to pick up children on the school side of the road if in a car parked, not in the middle of the road. Ensure your children use the manned crossing if they must cross the road, not diagonally through traffic. Please think before you display poor behaviour as children copy. I do not wish to be calling a parent because their child has been struck by a car! Let us work on this as a whole school together. All students should arrive home safely everyday! Have a great week and Happy Fathers Day. Teaching and Learning Tales - Tyla Jenkins RFF – Casual Relief/STEM Tyla Jenkins is every moment of the first chapter of his profes-sional career at Dubbo South Public School. Born in Tweed Heads on the border between New South Wales and Queensland, Mr Jen-kins is a long way from home. He ventured to the Central West of New South Wales in search of employment and is embracing the chance to share his love of learning. “I went to the same school from Prep to Year 12. I absolutely loved school and really didn't want to leave,” Mr Jenkins remembers. Whilst he loved learning, Mr Jenkins did not initially think we was going to be a teacher. “I wanted to be a games developer. I studied a Bachelor of Information Technology at Griffith University. It wasn't until I did my internship with a small team that I realised how much I enjoyed working with people on things that matter, and I decided I did not want to be a cog in a big machine.” Mr Jenkins decided in the final semester of his undergraduate degree to commence his Primary Education Degree. “There are so many things I enjoy about teaching. For me it’s all about the relationships you form with your students and the ability to learn from one another about the world we live in.” Mr Jenkins has been busy sharing his IT talents with students and teachers at Dubbo South Public School by integrating mathematics and engineering challenges with the use of technology, creating challenging, yet rewarding activities for all students. He has also upgraded the schools iPad fleet, making them easier to access and use in the classroom.

SistaSpeak Term 3 SistaSpeak has hosted many interesting special guests. Earlier this term Mel Waters came and taught us about hair hygiene as well as teaching us how to do some simple but impressive hair styles. We also had Emma Putland come and conduct a personal training session with us. We had a great workout and all ended up very puffed but happy. We learnt about our bodies and how they work as well as how to keep them healthy. Thanks so much Mel and Emma for taking time out of your busy schedules to share your knowledge and skills with the girls.

Kinder News Packing for School As the days get warmer, please remember to pack your hat and drink bottle. Students must have a hat on in the playground to play otherwise they will be asked to sit in the shade. Thank you for helping with this. Project Learning Today, all Kindergarten students will receive a flyer with details for completing a project at home. This project is based around making an information report on an animal of your choice. Projects will be returned to school in Week 10 when students will then share their work with their class. We hope that everyone has fun completing this task and learning together!
