Parado — on jeave MUNICIPAL RESOLUTION NO. 2018-66 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PETITIONERS IN THEIR QUEST FOR CLIMATE JUSTICE, AND REQUESTING THE COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS TO ORDER FORTY SIX (46) LARGEST GREEN HOUSE GAS PRODUCER CORPORATIONS TO SUBMIT THEIR PLANS ON THE STEPS THEY WILL UNDERTAKE TO ELIMINATE, REMEDY AND PREVENT THE DEVASTATING EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE PHILIPPINES, AND FURTHER SUPPORTING THE COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS ON THEIR INVESTIGATION IN RELATION THERETO. WHEREAS, the Municipality of Palo is strongly committed to improve its environment for a balanced, stable, and healthful ecology; WHEREAS, the Municipality of Palo is also committed to preserve its natural resources for its present and future constituents; WHEREAS, the Sangguniang Bayan of Palo learned about the landmark Climate Change and Human Rights Petition filed by Greenpeace Southeast Asia and Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement, together with twelve (12) non-profit organizations and eighteen (18) individuals (collectively referred hereinafter as the “Petitioners”), before the Commission on Human Rights, requesting for an investigation on the responsibility of forty six (46) multinational fossil fuel and cement companies (Carbon Majors) for human rights violations or threats of violations resulting from the impacts of climate change; WHEREAS, the Commission on Human Rights is currently conducting a national inquiry regarding the aforementioned Climate Change and Human Rights Petition; WHEREAS, to further its climate initiatives the Municipality of Palo, through the Sangguniang Bayan hereby expresses its strong support to the Petitioners in their quest for Climate Justice and supports the Commission on Human Rights in this historic national inquiry that has potential to deliver the world’s first finding of corporate responsibility for the human rights harms resulting from climate change and empower Filipino communities to reclaim their rights to a safe climate and a balanced, stable and nealthful ecology.

NOW, THEREFORE, on motion of Hon. Vice-Mayor Ronnan Christian M. Reposar and dulyseconded by all SB Members present, be it

RESOLVED, that the Sangguniang Bayan of Palo support, as it hereby supports the Petitioners inTheir Quest for Climate Justice, and Requesting the Commission on Human Rights to Order Forty Six (46)Largest Green House Gas Producer Corporations to Submit Their Plans on the Steps They Will Undertaketo Eliminate, Remedy and Prevent the Devastating Effects of Climate Change in the Philippines, andFurther Supporting the Commission on Human Rights on Their Investigation in Relation Thereto;

RESOLVED FINALLY, that copies of this resolution be furnished Jose Luis Martin C.
