Luke Hef- fron, a current sophomore here at Skutt Catholic, has a not-so-hidden talent; he writes, records, and produc- es his own music and shares it on the internet. Last semester, he wrote a going- away song for former stu- dent, Juliana Lins Maués; “A lot of lyrics in that song are just little phrases from conversations that I had plained. Usually, Luke said, he will hear a phrase or something in the back of his mind, which he will then write down and use it to form a chorus. “I’ll always see little pictures in my head that I think the songs sound like, and then they sort of form like that,” Luke described. Luke does not know what the future holds for him, but he has big dreams. After his album releases, he plans to send it to some major record labels in hopes of getting a record deal; “It’s kind of far out there, but that’s the dream,” says Luke. However, if his music career does not work out, Luke does not know ex- actly what he will do, “but I think at this point, that’s okay,” says Luke. with Juliana or things that I wanted to say to her,” said Luke. Skutt Catholic could have its very own country music star and she is taking her talent for singing to the next level by touring to different venues around the state of Nebras- ka. I recently had the privi- lege to sit down and talk with senior Kiana Meradith about her growing music ca- reer and to hear about some of her interesting stories. Q: What is the style of music that you perform? A: It’s contemporary coun- try along the lines of Car- rie Underwood and Taylor Swift, a pop-country sound. Q: Do you write your own music? A: I do, I wrote all the music that is on my CD. Q: Do you play any conc- erts or gigs? A: Yeah, I’ve been doing a lot more gigs. This summer I went on tour to different county fairs; it was called the Galaxy of Stars Tour, website, www.kianameradith.com. Kiana’s future seems extremely bright and any- one that knows her knows that with her incredible voice and shining personal- ity, Kiana Meradith will go very far in the entertain- ment industry. Stumble Inn Bar & Grill in Bennington and we had a re- ally good turnout and it was awesome. Q: Do you have any hu- morous stories from your career? A: Yeah, there have been a couple things, like when you’re on stage and some- thing unexpected happens. I had an incident when I was playing guitar and my gui- tar strap fell off my guitar, so I was just awkwardly standing there in a very un- comfortable position trying to hold my guitar while it was not attached to me. Sometimes, just the most random things happen to me while on stage, but I just kind of take it as it comes. Q:What is the name of your latest CD? Is there a link for download or purchase? A: The name of my CD is Pretty and Reckless and it was released on Oct. 22. They were good prac tice because they weren’t su- per big events. On Jan. 18, I had my CD release party - gitimate concert. 250 people showed up and was a really cool event.
