Thoughts From the Pastor In this first article, I want to briefly introduce my-self and hopefully down the road you will get to know me beyond this introduction. I was born in Kisii-Kenya on 20th December 1973. Kenya is best known here in the USA for producing some of the best long distance runners. I have 6 brothers and 3 sisters. 3 brothers so far have died. I am the third born. I began college seminary studies in 1995 for an undergraduate degree in philosophy. Upon graduation, I enrolled for a postgraduate degree in computer based information systems graduating as a System Analyst. After graduation, I moved to Chicago to continue my priestly studies culminat-ing to my ordination in 2007.
Life in the rural Kisii- Kenya was very simple; there is no electricity, no pipe water. People de-pend on what they grow in the small parcels of land. My father kept cows, goats, sheep and chicken to supplement the family income. My mother took care of the house. In the village, we knew everybody and we shared each other’s bur-dens thus the saying, it takes the entire village to raise one single child!
I joined Mundelein seminary in the fall of 2003 graduating with a bachelor’s degree in theology, (STB), a Master’s Degree in pastoral Ministry, (MDiv). After my ordination in 2007, I enrolled for advanced studies in Systematic Theology at Mundelein and this saw me graduating last year with an STL- (Licentiate in Sacred Theology) de-gree that prepares one to teach in Catholic univer-sities and colleges all over the world.
For the last 5 years, I have been privileged to be an associate pastor of Our Lady of the Ridge in Chicago Ridge before being appointed your pas-tor. I am very excited to be your pastor and I hope to learn more from you in the course of time. I am a very open person and willing to learn whenever an opportunity presents itself. There is so much to learn from each other, and I want you to know me, ask me questions when possible. We want to make this world a better place to be by sharing that por-tion of our time, that portion of our talents and that portion of our treasure. All of us are called to be evangelizers and evangelizing is a team ministry. This, we learn from Jesus who commanded the Apostles to go all over the world to preach, to bap-tize, and to bring God’s people closer to Him. That is what I want to follow as your pastor by trying to bring the world back to God with your assistance and prayers. This is the reason why I left all my parents and siblings in Kenya to come to Chicago and minister to people of God. My Joy is in the celebration of the Sacraments that the Church has given us. Please pray for me, as you will always be in my prayers.

FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 7 - 8, 2012
First Reading: Ezekiel 2:2-5 Our first Scripture reading describes the call of the prophet Ezekiel. Hew as a Jewish priest who was deported to Babylon at the time of the exile. He is called to proclaim God’s word to those who are exiled with him. God warns him that this will be no easy task. Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 In the passage just preceding this reading from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, he described some of this spiritual visions and revelations. But in this passage, he chooses not to boast of these, but rather to talk about how God has worked through him despite his weaknesses.

Economic crisis can teach us many valuable stew-ardship lessons. We are quickly realizing that as individuals and as a society we really did not need everything that we wanted. We are also learning to count our blessings and to see that we have been abundantly blessed by God. And, hopefully, we are becoming more willing to share our gifts with those who truly are in need.

THE WOMEN OF ST. CATHERINE – ST. LUCY PARISH AND OF THE NEAR-WEST SUBURBAN CATHOLIC PARISHES ARE INVITED TO GATHER THIS SUMMER AND FALL FOR REFLECTION AND CONVERSATION
Shelby Boblick will facilitate the discussion, and we’ll use as a catalyst the 22 women portrayed in Mothers, Sisters, Daughters: Standing on Their Shoulders, a book by Edwina Gateley and Sandra Mattucci. “Here are women upon whose shoulders all women stand, from every continent, time pe-riod, and walk of life. They include saints, mystics, and martyrs; reformers, writers, and environ-mentalists. These amazing women have all made the world a better place by pursuing their dreams and visions—often against enormous odds.” We’ll discuss these women’s lives and how they, in turn, call each of us to be the best of who we are.
Shelby will supply the books each week. No need to prepare in advance. If you want your own, the book is available on amazon.com for about $14.
It matters not at all if you miss a week or several weeks. You are most welcome to join us as and when your schedule permits. Drop-ins are encouraged! Bring your female friends, visitors, or rela-tives. All are welcome: once, occasionally, or regularly.
To accommodate a variety of schedules, we’ll offer duplicate sessions each Monday: one at 1 p.m. and another at 7:30 p.m. Please join us at whichever time suits you and your life. No need to come at the same time each Monday. You may attend during the afternoon one Monday and during the evening next time. Sessions last no longer than 90 minutes.
