While Moving in Mathematics’ is a program designed to enhance mathematics lessons through mixing fundamental

movement skills with mental arithmetic. These exciting games allow students to be running, hopping, skipping,

jumping, throwing, kicking, etc whilst at the same time practising maths concepts learnt in class. Research has proven

that by keeping the body moving while learning enhances cognitive function and improves memory. One of the main

aims of this program is to get students to enjoy learning mathematics, in a fun and interactive way. 5G has been trialling

this program and all students have reported positive outcomes, saying they are enjoying the physical activity and they

are learning something at the same time. Levels of engagement in mathematics have also improved as a result and we

are excited to continue this program.

In 3/4R this week, we have been having a lot of fun

conducting a range of experiments for our Science unit

“Material World”. We have been testing a range of things

such as how quickly different materials decompose, how

stretch or rigid materials are and the absorbency level of a

variety of materials.

3/4R students this week have

also been thinking outside of the

box during mathematics lessons,

creating their own set of

outdoor activities, combining

mathematics and physical

activity, to practice their

Multiplication skills.
