CLIMATE CORNER
Like the Fish in the Sea, twice a week
Eating fish in place of meat or chicken is one way to reduce
your carbon footprint, in addition to adding more plants to
your diet. But how often? The American Heart Association
(www.heaert.org) recommends eating fish, especially fatty
fish, two times per week. The omega-3 fatty acids in fish may
decrease risk of cardiovascular disease, by for example,
lowering triglycerides, decreasing the rate of plaque growth
in the arteries, decreasing blood clotting tendencies and de-
creasing risk of arrhythmias. Two servings of fish per week
may lower risk of depression and Alzheimer’s disease.
