Adenoids are small glands in the throat at the back of the nose. They are there to fight germs in younger children. We believe that after the age of about three years, the adenoids are no longer needed. Your body can still fight germs without your adenoids. We only take them out if they are doing more harm than good.
Sometimes children have adenoids so big that they have a blocked nose, so that they have to breathe through their mouths. They snore at night. Some children even stop breathing for a few seconds while they are asleep. The adenoids can also cause ear problems by stopping the tube, which joins your nose to your ear from working properly.
For children removing the adenoid at the same time as putting grommets in the ears seems to help stop the glue ear coming back. Removing the adenoids may also make colds that block the nose less of
a problem for your child. Usually adenoid surgery is done as a day case and there is minimal pain after the procedure.
Adenoid surgery is very safe, but bleeding may occur which may need a second operation to stop it. However, bleeding after adenoidectomy is very uncommon.

Probeer aanpassings in medikasie vermy tydens die eksamen. Werk vooraf vraestelle deur en sorg dat jy betyds is. Maak seker dat jy genoeg van die regte skryfbehoeftes saamneem.Maak seker dat jy die korrekte vraestel ontvang het. Lees die vraestel noukeurig deur. Let veral op na die hoeveelheid vrae wat jy moet beantwoord en onderstreep al die werkwoorde, sodat jy weet wat verwag word.
Beplan rofweg die struktuur van jou antwoord. Skryf duidelik en leesbaar en nommer jou vrae korrek. Begin elke nuwe afdeling op ‘n nuwe blad. Skryf soveel moontlik, maar onthou die kwaliteit van die antwoord as geheel word bepunt.
Pas jou kennis toe. Gebruik die vereiste formaat bv. ‘n opstel, ‘n program, ‘n oorsig, ‘n berekening ens. Gee al jou antwoord boeke/addendums/bylaes in.

Laerskool Stellenbosch se o/13 A-netbalspan het met ’n oorwinning van 22-9 teen Laerskool Hermanus gespog. Op die foto is die twee netbalspanne.
TennisDie Curro Tennis toernooi is op 5-7 September in Durbanville gehou. Oor die algemeen het ons vier spanne (seuns A,B en dogters A,B) goeie resultate behaal. Daar het agt skole se seunsspanne en ons B-Span het sewende gekom. Die seuns A-span het ons verras en tweede gekom nadat hulle teen in die finale Grey verloor. Daar het ses skole se dogterspanne deelgeneem en ons B-span het vierde gekom. Ons is baie trots op ons meisies A-span wat die toernooi gewen het. Baie geluk aan al die spanne wat gespeel het.
Onnies vier LoslitdagDie tema vir Loslitdag op Vrydag 6, September was: “Gaan Groot”. Jy kon enigiets groot dra van groot skoene en groot pruike tot groot brille. Die geld wat ingesamel is, is aan Huis Horison, geskenk. Natuurlik het Stellies nie op hulle laat wag nie en hierdie kans om civvies te dra goed benut deur ‘n plakker te koop en groot te gaan! Hier is van ons Onnies wat lekker saamgespeel het en soos altyd die leerders verras het deur snaakse kostuums te dra. Ons het ‘n stewige bedrag van R5000 ingesamel. Dankie vir almal se bydrae.
Rentia Meyer lewer praatjieRentia Meyer ’n leerder van Laerskool Stellenbosch is deur die Kogleêre Inplantingseenheid van die Universiteit van Stellenbosch se Mediese Fakulteit uitgenooi om op Vrydag, 6 September, by die Carel du Toit Sentrum by Tygerberg Hospitaal ‘n praatjie te kom lewer. Dit het gehandel oor haar ervarings en aanpassing in ‘n hoofstroomskool, as ’n kind met ‘n gehoorgestremdheid. As deel van Dowe Bewustheidsmaand is so ‘n inligtingsdag gereël vir professionele mense om hulle meer bewus te maak van sosiale en emosionele aanpassings van gehoorgestremde kinders in ‘n hoofstroomskool. Die gehoor het bestaan uit dokters, spesialiste, arbeids- en spraakterapeute, oudioloë, onderwysers en ander professionele mense.
Clara en Wiaan presteer by WOW spelkompetisieOns leerders het hierdie jaar weer aan die jaarlikse WOW-spelkompetisie deelgeneem. In hierdie kompetisie moet deelnemers woorde spel en skryf, of soos die hoofbeoordelaar sê: “krabbel en babbel”. Tydens die Stellenbosse Kringkompetisie het 8 Stellies deurgedring na die Distriks rondte. In dié rondte het hulle met die 7 wenners van die ander distrikte meegeding en senuwees van staal getoon. Wiaan Janse van Rensburg het ‘n eerste plek in gr. 5 behaal en Clara Dudley ‘n tweede plek in gr. 6. Hulle het op 21 September aan die provinsiale kompetisie deelgeneem en onderskeidelik „n 12de en 4de plek behaal.
Jongste skaakspelerOp sesjarige ouderdom neem Lisa Brugman deel as o/8-speler en eindig tweede in die Boland Kampioenskappe vir dogters. Sy wen onder andere die DSK Grand Prix Toernooi vir seuns en dogters, die Manyanani Grand Prix Toernooi vir dogters, die Steinitz Grand Prix Toernooi vir dogters en sy is dus die jongste dogter wat Suid-Afrika verteenwoordig in die Common-wealth Skaakkampioenskap. Sy speel teen alle ouderdomspanne in hierdie toernooi en wen 2.5 wedstryde.
Ons hoofleiers vir 2014Hier is Rochán Simonis (hoofdogter), Alex Aldrich (hoofseun), Alet Müller (onder-hoofdogter) en Auret Lochner (onder-hoofseun).Hierdie hoofleiers was tot dusver vanjaar ware ambassadeurs vir Laerskool Stellenbosch. Hul leierskap was uiters waardevol vir die skool. Die redes vir hulle sukses as hoofleiers is beslis die feit dat hulle besondere waardes nastreef, oor positiewe geaardhede beskik en altyd regverdig en empaties optree. Dit is werklik ‘n voorreg om sulke jongmense te onderrig en te sien hoe hulle uitstyg as toekomstige leiers van ons land.
Revue 2013Die hoogtepunt van die derde kwartaal by Laerskool Stellenbosch was ongetwyfeld die Revue. ‘n Revue van so ‘n omvang, waar 630 leerders van die skool deelneem, verg baie kundigheid maar veral entoesiasme van leerders, personeel en ouers. Met hierdie produksie is die uitdaging van so ‘n reuse poging aangegryp en het die opgewondenheid van die leerders geen perke geken nie. Die motivering van Hoera
vir die Lekker Lag Dag, lê beslis in die feit dat daar soveel talentvolle leerders is, maar ook in die opvoedkundige waarde wat so ‘n produksie aan kinders bied. Dit was vanaf dag een duidelik in die wyse waarop ons kinders met entoesiasme en oorgawe geoefen het dat hulle hierdie leerervaring geniet.Die opoffering van ‘n talentvolle en entoesiastiese produksiespan het die sukses van die produksie verseker. Die
personeel en ouers se bydrae sonder wie se hulp en ondersteuning hierdie produksie nie moontlik sou wees nie, was enorm. Elke leerder wat deelgeneem het, kan die woorde van Sam Ewing onthou: “Sukses het ‘n eenvoudige formule, doen jou bes en mense sal daarvan hou.” Dit was vir my opvallend hoe die kinders elke oomblikop die verhoog geniet het. Hierdie skouspel sal deur deelnemers en toeskouers nog lank onthou word.

Creative writingThe grade 2 learners have two teddy bears in their class. Each child gets a turn to take the bear home for a weekend. The bear takes part in weekend activities with the family. The child who has taken the bear home writes in the bear’s journal about what the bear got up to on the weekend. At the end of the year, the bears will be given to two under privealged children for Christmas. The bear comes with a little backpack of clothes and a journal about it’s life in the grade two classroom.
Visit from an illustrator Judy Mare is an illustrator of children’s books. She gave a talk to the Beaumont learners about the exciting and creative job she has.
Winning letterMichelle Lourens, a Grade 6 learner entered a letter writing competition with the rest of her grade. The Post Office invited learners to write letters about water being a precious resource. Michelle’s letter won the regional prize. She was awarded prize money for herself and for her school. The school also received 10 trees which were planted during Arbour week last term.

WP Netball TournamentOn Saturday, 21 September netball players of SWPS took part in a WP Tournament and won all their matches to take highest honour. They won gold medals and Tatum Jooste en Gabby Thomas were chosen as best players. Laerskool Hendrik Louw het op Dinsdag 1 Oktober die nuwe uitbreidings aan hulle nasorg fasiliteite en Grade RR en R klaskamers in gebruik geneem toe die skoolhoof, Lewellin Brown, en die voorsitter van die beheerraad, Alida Kruger, amptelik die linte geknip het. Al 130 voorskoolse leerders het die funksie bygewoon, die skoollied gesing en ballonne losgelaat. Die skool se leerdertal groei op die oomblik en die beheerraad het besluit om vir die 2de keer in 4 jaar die skool se geriewe te vergoot. Daar is plek vir 250 leerders in die baie goeie nasorgsentrum waar ‘n leerder
‘n volle pakket van etes, huiswerkklasse en baie goeie toesig ontvang (skoolvakansies ook). ‘n Werkende ouer kan met groot gemoedsrus hul kind soggens by die skool aflaai en weer laatmiddag kom haal, wetend dat alle Louwtjie nasorg leerders baie goeie versorging geniet. Tans is daar 110 leerders in 4 graad R klasse en 20 leerders in een graad RR klas. Die beplanning is om dié deel van die skool volgende jaar uit te brei. Die volledige opgradering en mooimaak van die speelterrein is ‘n projek wat oor die volgende
jaar afgehandel sal word via oueraksies sodat die area een van die mees kind-vriendelike in die Helderberg gaan wees. Die twee Engelse klasse vir 2014 is reeds vol met nog enkele plekke vir leerders ouderdom 5 of 6 in die Afrikaanse klasse. Dit is vir die skool ‘n voorreg om die puik fasiliteite aan die voorskoolse ouers en leerders van die Helderberg-kom beskikbaar te stel. Skakel gerus met die ontvangsdames by die skool as u graag u kind by die puik skool wil inskryf.

The pass used to be the main route for ox wagons travelling between Cape Town and Mossel Bay. The trail was completed in 1869.
Babylonstoren 4x4Four By Four Trail in MalmesburyBabylonstoren 4x4 is located about 20 km from Malmesbury and offers a challenging route with a difficulty grading of 4; some experience is required. Biedouw 4x4 TrailFour By Four Trail in Cederberg Wilderness AreaBiedouw 4x4 is located in the Cedarberg mountain area with the closest town, Clanwilliam, 54km away. You know, the kind of simple and fun distraction where you gather crops or build a city or frolic through virtual fields with your little
anthropomorphic animal pals. Well, finally we’re reviewing a game for you!
The 3DS-based Animal Crossing: New Leaf is as casual a title as you’ll find. Only with this game you don’t have to keep forking over cold cash for golden upgrades or inviting online friends to play in order to earn a bonus point or two. Young or old, you simply build your world as you like, at your own pace, and see what kind of fun comes of it.
At game’s beginning you find yourself on a train heading to a new town in search of a fresh start. Once you step onto the station platform of a pleasant little sunny burg, however, all the animal residents there give you a rousing cheer, welcoming you as their new mayor. Uh-oh, someone’s made a mistake. But don’t worry, the guy who was supposed to take the job got sidetracked, and he’s pleased as punch that you can fill the position in his stead.

Puppeteer - 10+ Playstation 3Every once in a while gamemakers surprise us by unveiling a colorful amusement that’s creative and more than just a little quirky. And even less often than that they also inject a certain unique something into the gameplay mechanics that pushes the fun from “novel and fresh” right up the scale to “just this side of brilliant.” Puppeteer is just such an every so often game.
Set in a Japanese puppet theater—with rich velvety curtains and thump-in-place wood and cardboard set pieces—it has a fairy-tale-like story at its core. The game is an interactive stage play of sorts, a show that features magical happenings and an otherworld of wistful dreams. It’s the adventure of a puppet named Kutaro.
Pikmin 3 - 10+ WiiWhat do you do when your little home world’s resources are tapped out and there’s a serious shortage of food? Well, we earthlings might wring our hands and notify cable news. But on Pikmin 3’s planet of Koppai, it’s time to take action. So this humanoid civilization sends a space crew of three—the stalwart captain Charlie, first mate Alph and brainiac botanist
Brittany—to the outer reaches of their galaxy, heading for a green orb they’ve spotted and labeled PNF-404.
This hopeful planet is a place with just the right environment and food resources to support all those worried people of Koppai. But, oops, an unexpected accident upon entry into the planet’s atmosphere leaves the three crew mates stranded on the alien surface.
Planes - PG Nintendo & WiiDusty Crophopper knows his job. And it’s a good one. But in this world of living, breathing cars, planes, trucks and trains, he dreams of being so much more than simply a plane that dusts farm fields with vile-smelling vitaminimulch.
He wants to dive and cut, swoop and soar. Well … maybe not soar so much because he’s, ahem, just a little afraid of heights. But he wants to really fly. He wants to be better.
Dusty longs to fly among the P-51s and turboprops, zooming off in the renowned Wings Around the Globe air race. He also knows it’s not going to be a glide in the park. There are plenty of aerodynamic reasons why he shouldn’t be able to compete.

In 2007, The Ultimate Gift introduced us to Red Stevens, a deceased Texas oilman whose last wish was to bequeath his multibillion-dollar trust fund to an heir who wouldn’t squander it—someone who would prove a worthy, noble steward of that massive inheritance. The ultimate recipient? His grandson, Jason Stevens, who first has to pass a series of character tests administrated by his grandfather’s lifelong friend and lawyer, Ted Hamilton. While on that journey out of self-absorption, Jason falls in love with Alexia Drummond, whose beautiful daughter, Emily, is dying of cancer.
The Ultimate Life picks up three years later. Jason and Alexia’s love has deepened following Emily’s tragic death. Alexia
wants to believe things are moving toward marriage. And they are … if Jason can ever find the time to actually propose to her amid his never-ending responsibilities running the Stevens Foundation. What Jason doesn’t know is that absent such a proposal, Alexia has increasingly felt convicted to put her nursing skills to work … in Haiti. Jason does get around to at least trying to pop the question, but at the very moment of emotional impact, he’s served legal notice that his role as the head of the Stevens Foundation is being challenged by one of Red’s sons, Billy, whom the old oilman didn’t deem a fit heir. In the 1970s, a new form of urban dance known as breakdancing began to emerge among African-American and Puerto Rican youth in New York City. It incorporated rhythmic dance moves that combined flips, spins and jaw-dropping physical feats more akin to gymnastics than dance. Gradually, breakdancing—part sport, part art—spread across America and around the world. Practitioners came to be known as b-boys, and by 1990, an international, Olympic-like competition to identify the world’s best b-boy “crews” was established.It’s called Battle of the Year. Battle of
the Year, the movie, offers fans of b-boying (as breakdancing is now commonly called) a fictionalized take on that actual competition, albeit one that includes real-world competitors and footage from director Benson Lee’s previous documentary on breakdancing, Planet B-Boy.
