Sika® Abraroc MY Hydraulic Abrasion Resistant Mortar

Product Description Sika® Abraroc MY is a high performance cementitious mortar, specially formulated to give exceptional hardness for resistance against hydraulic abrasion.

Uses Sika® Abraroc MY has been specifically formulated for use in new construction and repair of hydraulic structures subject to abrasion by water. Some typical applications are: ■ Sewage pipes, drainage channels, etc. ■ Sewage treatment plants ■ Dams (spillways, overfalls, etc.) ■ Road and highway structures (drains, road gutters, etc.) Sika® Abraroc MY is also suitable for use in new construction and repair of structures subject to heavy abrasion and mechanical wear such as: ■ Maintenance rooms ■ Storage areas ■ Loading-bays, etc

Characteristics / Advantages

■ High resistance to hydraulic and mechanical abrasion ■ High mechanical strength ■ Very good bond to concrete, mortar, brick, stone, etc. ■ Low shrinkage ■ Final hydraulic resistance equivalent to those of granite

Instructions for Use Surface Preparation

The substrate shall be clean, sound and free form oil, grease, laitance and loosely adhering particles. Exposed re-bars shall be thoroughly prepared by wire brush or sand blasted to eliminate any trace of rust and subsequently protected by 2 coats of Sika MonoTop-610 or SikaTop Armatec-110 Epocem (refer to respective Product Data Sheets for details).

Substrate Requirement Sika® Abraroc MY can be applied on concrete substrate of all ages. If concrete is green, it is not necessary to wait for full hardening of the concrete prior to placing Sika Abraroc. As long as the concrete is hard enough to walk on, Sika® Abraroc MY can be applied provided that the concrete surface has not been smoothened up and still remains damp (it might be necessary after the levelling to strike out the concrete surface).

Bonding Coat Mix Ratio Due to the nature of aggregate and the low water/cement ratio of Sika Abraroc, unless applied by mechanical means (for example, dry spray), application must be done over a bonding coat. The bonding coat can be either of: ■ SikaLatex cement slurry (refer to Product Data Sheet for details) on hardened young, green or old concrete ■ SikaTop Armatec-110 EpoCem or on concrete older than 28 days

Mix Ratio 2.75 litres of clean water per 25 kg bag of Sika Abraroc

Mixing Preparation Concrete Mixer or Heavy Duty Drill Mixer SikaLatex cement slurry (refer to Product Data Sheet for details).

Vertical Axe Mixer / Pan Mixer Add Sika® Abraroc MY first and progressively pour the total quantity of water while mixing. For all cases, mixing should continue for at least 3 minutes.

Coverage A 25 kg bag of Sika® Abraroc MY yields 1.2 m2 per 10 mm thickness.

Application Immediately after mixing, Sika® Abraroc MY is manually applied using traditional topping tools, wet-on-wet onto the bonding coat (SikaLatex slurry) or onto the still tacky epoxy primer (SikaTop Armatec-110 EpoCem). In floor applications, place the mortar and adjust the level using manual or vibrating rollers.

Due to its low shrinkage behaviour, Sika® Abraroc MY can be placed in panels up

to 25 m2. Sika® Abraroc MY shall be smooth-finished using a wooden float as

soon as levelling is completed. If a very smooth surface is required, Sika® Abraroc MY can be power floated approximately 1 – 2 hours after application. Note: Sika® Abraroc MY can also be placed using the dry spray technique, water being added directly at the nozzle. In this case no bonding bridge is required.

Curing The low water content and the lack of bleeding water makes Sika® Abraroc MY very sensitive to dehydration. It is therefore important that after finishing, the mortar should be protected using Sika Antisol-E or Sika Antisol-90 curing compound to prevent early water loss (refer to respective Product Data Sheets for details). In case of power floated finish, it is important to protect Sika® Abraroc MY as soon as the levelling is completed (before power floating) with a solution of SikaLatex diluted with water (1:1 parts by volume) at a rate of 0.25 litre per m2.

Handing Over The repair work carried out can be ready for handing over 24 hours after application. However, if full abrasion resistance is required, the mortar shall be allowed to cure completely (refer to Abrasion Index Table).

Cleaning All tools should be cleaned with water while the mortar has not yet set. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.

Safety Precautions Wear gloves and goggles during application. If in contact with skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If in contact with eyes or mucous membrane, flush immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention without delay. Use with adequate ventilation. For more information, refer to our Material Safety Data Sheet (available upon request).
