EDITORIALWell, most of you by now will know that John Lester passed away the other week, and may I say, in a very special way, what a lovely service at Countesthorpe! I never realised John was in the forces! I remember John when he first started out, he had invited Ent. Secs. to a showcase at a Leicester dance centre, Steve Warren from the Notts and myself went along, and in fact we both booked John for our clubs. If there was a charity show taking place John was on the show , one of the first to give his time up to help raise money for various causes. John was an entertainer who took pride in his stage presence and he will sorely be missed by many in Clubland. Thoughts and prayers to Elaine and family, you did him proud!! It doesn’t seem right to have a moan now, but I feel I must! I read an interesting letter the other week, that an Ent. Sec. had received from a member of his club re change of acts. By this I mean the club and Club News advertise acts on in the clubs,
but when members etc. go to see these acts, they find a replacement act. Firstly I must point out that this could happen for various reasons, acts texting they can’t make it for whatever reason, which I don’t think this is good enough; how can the act know that the person they are texting has got the message? This for me is a NO! NO! I understand sometimes acts have to cancel for various reasons, so you the members must understand that sometimes it’s a nightmare trying to find a replacement, and in some cases you have to have who is available!! Maybe not your cup of tea but someone may like them. Most, if not all Ent. Secs. do try to provide good all round entertainment, and in most cases good replacements due to time enough to ring around to see who isn’t working on that night. So come on, don’t take it out on our clubs’ entertainment section. You mention informing other Ent. Secs./clubs about acts letting clubs down, we do tell others about such acts at our meetings, but we can’t blacklist them, because the law of the land means we could be prosecuted for preventing an act tfrom earning a living! I’m sure most weekends outshine the few bad ones.Ent.Secs. at the meeting at Lutterworth included Pool, Latimer, Braunstone District, Monsell, Thurmaston, Lutterworth, South Wigston WMC. Due to two Bank Holidays in May, can I have May material ASAP please; in fact if you have others too you can send them in to me, if you haven’t already, with the holidays nearly upon us!
