Project Overview Introduction to the scheme:-
The programme has been launched by Govt. of Odisha during 2011-12 for providing irrigation to
the farmers in the upland areas by lifting water from river and Reservoir, which could not be
irrigated by normal means of flow irrigation.
It is proposed to take up 174 No mega lift schemes covering command area of 2,14,270 ha. and
grouped into 15 clusters as per the pre-feasibility study done during 2011.The first phase has been
taken up in 2012-13 and the second phase comprising schemes like Cluster-VI, VIII, XI is likely to
be completed in a period of 30 months i.e.by June- 2018.Now DPR for 8 clusters have been
prepared which contains 102 schemes. Out of which work has been started in five Clusters
i.e.Cluster VII, IX, X, XII & XIII in the district of Ganjam, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,
Jharsuguda & Nuapada after administrative approval by Govt. of Odisha and following tendering
process.
Site selection priorities:-
Projects having irrigation command area 500-2000 ha are taken up under the scheme.
The schemes are proposed in 23 districts, which lie in the following river basins i.e. Vansadhara,
Indravati, Tel, Mahanadi, Brahmani, Baitarani, Burhabalanga, Deo, Sankh, Koel, Ib, Basundhara,
Ichha and Safei of Odisha.
Besides, some schemes have been identified in the periphery of Hirakud and Rengali reservoirs.
These schemes have been grouped into 15 clusters to facilitate tendering, execution and power
connectivity point of view.
Project Overview Funding arrangement:- The schemes are being funded either by the State Government or under RIDF/NABARD.
Institutional arrangement:- Head of the Project is- PD-cum-CE,PMU,Megalift Projects, Bhubaneswar. For smooth implementation of Mega Lift Project, a Project Management Unit (PMU) is created
under the Deptt. of Water Resources. The Chief Engineer, Mega Lift Projects(PMU),is heading the
unit as Project Director-cum-Chief Engineer, PMU,Megalift Projects. This office is functioning at:
Plot No-A-8/2, Bhoi Nagar, Bhubaneswar-751022.
S.E., Mega Lift Circle, Bhubaneswar is also now functioning in the above premises since its
creation in 2016-17.
Project components:- Detail survey and design.
Civil works like intake well, pump house, delivery chamber, Distribution Network, residential
building, approach roads etc.
Procurement and installation of electro-mechanical systems like pump, motor, transformer,
overhead crane and control panel etc.
Power system connectivity along with switchyard.
Rising main supplying water from the pump house to the delivery chamber.
Distribution system including distribution main, minors consisting of pipe line network.
Operation and Maintenance.
