The Bloomfield Township Public Library is seeking a professional and resourceful Library Page to support the Library’s circulation needs. The Bloomfield Township Public Library is a Class 5 Library, with a service population of 41,070 people. There is strong community support for the Library and its collections, services and programs offered. Technology is integrated into Library services. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to provide quality service to the staff and the public and the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment.

POSITION TITLE: Adult Services Page DEPARTMENT: Adult Services, reporting to Assistant Department Head

RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct public service:

provides positive, pleasant professional services to staff and public

directs patrons to appropriate staff for assistance

retrieves materials for patrons and staff Indirect public service:

sorts and shelves materials,

reads shelves to ensure accurate order so that materials can be found by patrons

follows direction of supervisor

may search paging slips as scheduled

Computer/keyboard experience Desirable: Public library work experience REQUIREMENTS: Minimum:

Able to lift, bend, and stoop to shelve materials

Able to push or pull carts weighing at least 20 pounds

Desire to serve the public in a positive manner

A typical work week for the Public Services Page may include:

Shelve books in fiction section or alphabetically by author’s last name and under the author by title.

Retrieve magazines from magazine storage area

Push heavily loaded cart of materials from circulation into work area

Straighten all of reference section of materials

Shelve books in non-fiction by dewey number and cutter (author) letters

Shift several ranges of shelving to make room for more books

Direct patron to appropriate desk for librarian’s assistance

Take reading group books to lower level for shelving in compact shelves

Read shelves to put materials back in order

Photocopy flyers for public

Fill notepaper and pencil holders at each computer terminal

Cut recycled paper into notepaper size

Load materials on to book carts

Assist staff at programs by handing out fliers, showing movies, assisting presenters

Look up books in circulation module for statistics

Check booklists for status of material

Salem-South Lyon District Library Adult Services Librarian

POSITION AVAILABLE Adult Services Librarian

Pay Range: $16.55 - $18.00 hourly. Hours: Part-time 16-19 hours per week. Includes some evening, Saturday, and Sunday hours. Reports to: Head of Adult Services

The Salem-South Lyon District Library is seeking a part-time Adult Services Librarian. The position requires the ability to work hard, have fun, and provide amazing service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide a high level of customer service to all ages through comprehensive reader’s advisory, reference and technology assistance. Enjoys assisting customers in the use of library resources.

• Assists Head of Adult Services with assigned tasks, including but not limited to: o Collection development, o Programming with an emphasis on enrichment and lifelong learning, o Connecting with community organizations to promote the library as value, o Sensitive to current and trending community needs and aspirations

• Seeks out alternative funding, i.e. grants, awards. • Participates in professional organizations, continuing education and development. • May oversee library operations in absence of supervisory staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS include:

• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited program • Enthusiastic customer service philosophy • Proficient in the use of technology, including, but not limited to, digital resources and

mobile devices • Shows an interest in trending library services and technology • Strong organizational and creative problem-solving skills • Ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, work independently and meet deadlines • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking • Ability to interact with staff and customers with tact, courtesy and good judgment • Must be willing to work variable hours including some evenings and weekends • Physical ability and stamina to perform typical job duties • Public library experience

Government grants have a lot of requirements.

Foundation grants vary in regards to requirements.

Corporate grants can go along with foundation grants – usually has foundation support.

Look at the 990 of the place you are asking for a grant – do they fund similar places?

Have you ever applied before – be honest.

Do your background research.

Use www.guidestar.org to search for 990s (free login).

Make sure you are eligible for the grant for which you are applying.

Is there a 501(C)(3) foundation associated with your library? This is most likely your Friends group.

Federal applications – no food funding.

Read the fine print!

Note all dates on application, including award date.

Attention to detail is extremely important.

Don’t overshoot your matched funds.

Make your case – why will this be successful?

There will be some overlap in the application – you will be repeating things over and over.

Budgets can range in detail.

Always have someone look over grant before submitting.

If there is any award ceremony, send someone who is familiar with the project.

Revise the budget is the grant award is less than the amount asked.

Send out a press release; use social media

Library Assistant—Circulation We are looking for a part-time Library Assistant for the Circulation Department. They will report to the Circulation Department Head. The candidate will check in and out materials, register patrons for library cards, collect money for fees and answer the telephone. You must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of private information. You must have good customer service and phone skills. This is a 36 hour a week position. It requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The starting wage is $9.50 an hour. Two years of library experience preferred and expertise with an automated library system. Circulation Services Committee

Novi Meeting

March 9, 2017

Bill (COMM) called the meeting to order at 9:33 am, followed by the introduction of members

with the following members signing in remotely: Elizabeth Alexander (LVCC), Elizabeth Korey

(BLOO), Emily Good (DHTN), and Mary Graulich (DEXT).

Becky (MDHT) moved to approve the agenda and it was seconded by Judy (NORT). The motion

carried.

Becky (MDHT) moved to approve the minutes for the January 12 meeting with the correction of

adding Jon (WATE) to the list of members in attendance. Terri (CHEL) seconded it and the

motion carried.

Shared System Update (Read by Bill)

The update to the Enterprise catalog that was scheduled for 02/03/2017 was completed

successfully. Included in the upgrade were some CSS changes to the backend of the Enterprise

Catalog.

The 3 ILS vendor demos took place as follows: TLC Carl-February 15-16, III Polaris-February 22-

23, and SirsiDynix-February 27-28.

On Tuesday, March 28, 2017 the passwords for xxxxstaff and xxxxtech accounts for WorkFlows

were changed. Passwords will continue to be changed on a regular basis every 6 months.

Yellow receipts used by Manchester District Library are acceptable as long as library

information is written in black if the item is going back to owning library and written in red if

the item is to fill a hold.

SASUG report-Becky (MDHT)

Our policy changes were approved. All libraries should clean up the database as much as possible. Examples are: If an item is missing more than a year, it should be moved to the discard user. Collection information over 7 years old can be removed.

Discussion of reports TLN can do for us Examples are: Long overdue report (Can have patrons barred using this report)-suggested by Terri (CHEL) Lost and paid report (Can contact library that accepted payment if they have not forwarded the money)-suggested by Jon (WATE) Discussion of lost items Judy (NORT) reminded us to mark items as lost and the system will add the processing fee to the bill. Do not take payment without calling the owning library first to do a shelf check. Becky (MDHT) reminded us payment may be made using the catalog; owning library receives the money; discourages sending cash through the delivery Bill (COMM) shared that Section 4 of our policy deals with lost items and accepting payment. Patti (SLYN) suggests putting damaged items in a bag, so it alerts the home library of a problem when receiving the item in delivery. Processing fee survey-Bill (COMM) Our survey regarding processing fees is three years old. Survey was passed around at the meeting so changes could be made. Plans to call other libraries so they can update their policy. Survey is not a substitute for calling the owning library. New applicants-Terri (CHEL) Enter as much information as possible to include: first, middle, and last names, birth date, and driver’s license number. Driver’s license number should be entered without spaces. Terri (CHEL) began a discussion on fees for MeLCat items. The borrowing library may charge fines, but MeLCat does not charge fines for items that are overdue. Discussion of library cards for digital use-Kelly (FERN) Ferndale is working with local schools for students to get library cards. There was a problem with one parent not wanting her child to have a library card. The teacher wants the student to

get a special card to be able to access digital services only. Committee shared concerns about the e-card being in the system and it was pointed out that SASUG would have to approve. The meeting was adjourned at 11:48am. The motion was made by Terri (CHEL) and seconded by Jon (WATE). The next meeting is May 11, 9:30am at Birmingham Baldwin Library.

Learning Commons Director/Librarian

Midland University, a private, Christian, liberal arts university in Fremont, Nebraska (just

Summary

Assists library users at the circulation desk. Handles behind the scenes work related to circulation and

technical services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Cheerfully greet patrons entering the building.

• Provide checkout and related services at the Circulation Desk.

• Answer and direct incoming library calls.

• Answer questions and provide information about library use. Refers questions to other staff

where appropriate.

• Provide information to users about locations, programs, and computer use. Assist users with

donations, printing and computer problems.

• Issue library cards under the guidelines of the library and The Library Network (TLN). Also

renew expired cards, handle lost cards, and update patron information.

• Check in books. Remove books from return boxes. Direct returned items to the appropriate

locations for re-shelving.

• Pull holds for interlibrary loans. Process holds coming and going from TLN delivery.

• Sort mail. Check in and process newspapers and magazines.

• Create artwork for missing CD and DVD covers.

• Contact patrons regarding missing or damaged materials.

• Run reports of current holds, lost items, expired holds, and pending in-transit items.

• Modify cataloging records in the library’s database when needed.

• Create newsletters, flyers and other graphic materials.

• Operate DVD/CD cleaning machine.

• Unpack new shipments of library materials and verify invoices.

• Physically process and catalog new library materials.

• Regularly check the circulation department email account and respond to messages.

• Other duties may be assigned.
