ONLINE GIVING WeShare is a platform for parishioners to

use for electronically donating their treasure

to St. Andrew. You choose when and how

you donate-weekly, monthly, through your checking account or

a credit card. You are in total control of your treasure and you

repairs and maintenance. If you use WeShare – thank you. If

not, please consider and pray about using this efficient and

simple way of donating your treasure to St. Andrew. Please

Christmas Collection

In the coming week, our hearts and minds move to gratitude for God's many blessings even in these very hard months! With Thanksgiving here, Christmas is just around the corner. In reality, the Christmas Collection is an enormously important part of St. Andrew’s annual income. With the pandemic, not only is our revenue lower; but, at the same time, the increase in our community’s need has required additional spending. Please be as generous as your situation allows this Christmas season so that we may continue the mission of the Church in these very troubling times.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

As we move into the Second week of Advent, we have Beautiful celebrations before us! On Tuesday we will celebrate the Feast of the Patroness of the United States, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, with a Vigil Mass at 7:00pm on Monday and our 9:00am on Tuesday. Then we will celebrate the Feast of Saint Juan Diego on Wednesday and three days later we will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe the Patroness of all the Americas on Saturday!

“Oye y pon bien en tu corazón, hijo mío el más pequeño: nada te asuste, nada te aflija, tampoco se altere tu corazón…. “¿No estoy aquí yo, que soy tu Madre? ¿No estás bajo mi sombra y resguardo? ¿No soy yo la fuente de tu alegría? ¿No estás en el hueco de mi manto, en donde se cruzan mis brazos? ¿Tienes necesidad de alguna otra cosa?”

These were the words of comfort Our Lady of Guadalupe addressed to San Juan Diego in Tepeyac! Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe dirigió estas palabras de conforte a San Juan Diego en Tepeyac:

“Listen and let it penetrate your heart my littlest son: Let nothing frighten or afflict you, let nothing worry your heart. Am I not here who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not the source of your joy? Are you not in the folds of my mantle where I cross my arms? Is there anything more you could need?”

Although we will not be able to celebrate on the same scale as we normally would, we will honor Our Lady of Guadalupe at our 9:00am Mass on December 12 with separate celebrations in Spanish at a different time. Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us! Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, ora por nosotros!

God bless you all,

Fr. Joe

CONTACT TRACING CHANGE

Thanks to all who submitted Contact Tracing forms

online, which has allowed us to get current email

and phone numbers for most parishioners who are

attending Mass in person. However, we have found

that the check-in process is causing too much close

contact between volunteers and parishioners.

Therefore, we will no longer do the check-ins.

Rather, in the event of a Covid exposure at any

Mass, while maintaining the proper confidentiality,

we will use email and Robo-calling to notify

everyone both on the Contact Tracing list and in our

parish database. Therefore, if you are not done so

already, please click here to register for the Contact

Tracing list.

St. Andrew’s Parishioners In Need

Last week 3 families lost their home and car to a

devastating fire in Emerson. They are in need of 3

apartments or houses to rent. They are also looking

for someone interested in selling a very inexpensive

car or willing to donate a car. Please email Fr. Joe

at [email protected] or call 201-472-0301 if

you can offer assistance to these families. Thank

you.

Advent Candles

Advent candles are available for purchase in the

Parish Center Office. They are $5.00 per bundle.

This year, in lieu of having gift tags on giving

trees, we welcome everyone to consider getting

involved with our virtual, or online, giving trees.

Our efforts this year will support:

*St. Andrew’s Food Pantry to help feed hungry

families at Christmas.

*New Hope, a pregnancy support program located

in Westwood for single mothers.

*Harrison House, helping people who suffer with

HIV/Aids

*Children’s Aid and Family Services, dedicated to

strengthening families.

Click here for more information. You can also

find more information on our website.

Advent is a time where we prepare ourselves for

the coming of Jesus in mind, body and spirit.

Each night of Advent, starting at 7 pm, one of our

parishioners will share one of their favorite

Christmas stories. Hope you can join us. The

stories have been wonderful! Click here

to view our Advent Story playlist on YouTube.

We are happy to report that our new phone system

will be installed this coming week. The Parish will

have two new phone numbers that should be

working by mid-week:

Our calendars for 2021 have arrived. We extend our

thanks to Marty Seitz and his staff at Becker Funeral

NEXT WEEK’S READINGS

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 13 1ST READING: Is 61:1-2a, 10-11

2ND READING: 1 Thes 5:16-24

GOSPEL: Jn 1:6-8, 19-28

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

First Reading: Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11

Isaiah emphasizes that from the desert to the mountains, all

people must prepare for “the glory of the Lord to be revealed.”

Rather than looking only at God’s power, Isaiah focuses on

God’s kindness, comparing it to a shepherd who feeds and

cares for his flock.

Second Reading: 2 Peter 3:8-14

For those who are impatient for the Second Coming, Peter

explains that time is different to God than to people. He

reminds them that they should be grateful for the extra time to

prepare, and concentrate on striving to become all that God

would want them to be.

Gospel: Mark 1:1-8

In this passage, John the Baptist stressed the

importance of the coming of the Messiah. He

acknowledged that he was only the messenger, and

unfit to “stoop and untie his sandal straps.” John

urged them to prepare for one far holier than he, who

would walk among them.

We prepare this week by stepping up the longing. We

move through this week by naming deeper and more

specific desires.

Each morning this week, if even for that brief moment

at the side of our beds, we want to light a second inner

candle. We want to let it represent “a bit more

hope.” Perhaps we can pause, breathe deeply and say,

“Lord, I place my trust in you.”

Each day this week, as we encounter times that are

rushed, even crazy, we can take that deep breath, and

make that profound prayer. Each time we face some

darkness, some experience of “parched land” or desert,

some place where we feel “defeated” or “trapped,” we

hear the words, “Our God will come to save us!”

The grace we desire for this week is to be able to hear the

promise and to invite our God to come into those real

places of our lives that dearly need God's coming. We

want to be able to say:

“Lord, I place my trust in your promise. Please, Lord, rouse your power and come into this place in my life, this

relationship, into this deep self-defeating pattern. Please come here and save me.”

Each night this week we can look back over the day and

give thanks for the moments of deep breath, that opened

a space for more trust and confidence in God's fidelity to

us. No matter how difficult the challenges we are facing

- from the growing realization of our personal sinfulness,

to any experience of emptiness or powerlessness, even in

the face of death itself - we can give thanks for the two

candles that faithfully push back the darkness. And, we

can give thanks for the graces given us to believe that

“Our God will come to save us” because we were given

the courageous faith to desire and ask boldly.

Come, Lord Jesus. Come and visit your people. We await your coming. Come, O Lord.

John the Baptist- prepared the Hebrew people

of his day for the coming of Jesus. Since he

preached to the people about repenting before

they knew Jesus, John the Baptist is called the

Forerunner of Jesus. Repentance is admitting

our sins, being truly sorry and fixing or making

up for what we did wrong.
