Celebrate St. Francis Around the year 1206, the Crucifix in the Chapel of San Damiano spoke to St. Francis, saying, “Francis, repair my Church, which as you can see, is falling down.” Then in the year 1210, Pope Innocent III had a dream that the Lateran Basilica was about to fall down and that a man (who, the next day, he recognized as St. Francis) ran up and propped it up with his own shoulders, which had suddenly assumed an enormous size. It seems fitting that, since St. Francis’s Feast Day is on Thursday, October 4th, we should also honor his entrance into Heaven (Transitus) at our Holy Hour for the Church on Wednesday, October 3rd. We will also pray for St. Francis’s intercession for the purification of the Church. The whole parish is invited!
A Beautiful New Furnace! Because of the generosity of the people of St. Brendan’s the rectory has a beautiful new furnace! It was installed by the Martinelli Oil Company of Blackstone.

Catholic Home School And Catholic School Families Please notify the Parish CCD Office if you have a child in a Catholic Home-School program, who is of sacramental age (2nd grade) and is preparing to receive First Penance and First Communion during the coming CCD year, 2018 – 2019. Catholic Home-School students and students attending Catholic High Schools and entering 9th grade, need to register for our two-year Confirmation preparation, and go through the parish program. Course on the Book of Genesis
Fr. Mullen is offering a course on the first book of the Bible - Genesis. The topics covered will be creation, the theory of evolution, the Fall, the Great Flood, the tower of Babel, the Patriarchs, Joseph, the Great Migration to Egypt. The course will be conducted in a seminar style, with plenty of time for discussions and questions. All you need to bring with you is your bible! The classes have begun. We meet every Monday @ 7;00 P.M. in the parish hall. All interested persons are welcome to attend.
Sacristans Needed We are in need of two teams of sacristans (four people), to work in teams of two, to help keep our beautiful Church looking that way. The duties would consist of light dusting, keeping the windows of the doors clean, basic straightening up and vacuuming. Services would be needed about once a month. Do You Shop At Shaws?
The Shaws supermarket chain presently has a promotion for Luminarc storage containers. Fr. Mullen is collecting the stamps in order to get a set of such containers for the rectory kitchen. If you are not using the stamps you receive for this purpose then please give them to Fr. Mullen!

First Friday Adoration This Friday, October 5th, we will have our First Friday Adoration of the Blessed Eucharist from 9:30 A.M. until 12:00 Noon, at which time we will have Benediction. Come and adore the Lord! You are encouraged to sign up for one or more of the half-hour times of prayer at the side entrance to the church. Can you spare some time for the Lord?
Parents and Children: Pray and Play! Join us with your children on the first Friday of each month for the new Pray and Play group. We will gather in the hall after the 9:00 A.M. Mass until 11 a.m. Parents will take turns visiting the Blessed Sacrament in the church while the remaining parents watch the kids in the hall. At 10:15, we will pray the Rosary in the hall. Your children will play, you will get 15 minutes of focused prayer, and we will all build a community to share prayer, parenting experience and support! People without young children are also welcome to join us to pray and to assist in watching children. The next meeting will be this Friday, October 5th. Please bring an item for the food pantry. A snack and coffee will be served.
Are You New to St. Brendan’s? If you are new to St. Brendan’s then Fr. Mullen and Deacon Ghioni would like to meet you. Please introduce yourself to them after Mass.
Fall Fair Needs
Our Fall Fair is on the first weekend of November (the 3rd to the 4th), but now is the time for making preparations. We have a few needs: Sports Tickets To Raffle Off: We are always in need of generous people to donate sports tickets (Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and Patriots) for us to raffle off. If the games are to be played before the Fall Fair (such as this Spring or Summer) we will have the raffle early. Tents: The Generous provider of the tents that we have used in the patio area and outside of the kitchen in the past years no longer has them. So we need to borrow some “easy up” tents for the Fall Fair. If you are willing to let us borrow yours for the fair, then please call the parish office. When you do so, please mention the dimensions of your tent. Gift Baskets: We are star ting the process of putting together gift baskets for the fair. If you have some clean and gently used baskets at home, then please donate them. Thank you!

Meet Father Donohoe-“I am with you; wherever you are, wherever you go, I am with you.”Father Stephen Donohoe embraced a vocation to serve as a priest of the Archdiocese of Boston. As a young man, he felt the first signs of God’s presence in the Holy Eucharist; that force would become what he describes today as “the bedrock of his priesthood.”
After ordination, Father Donohoe became a military chaplain. During deployment, he provided for the spiritual needs of men and women facing combat. He never abandoned those entrusted to his care and stood by them at every point. Father Donohoe continues this steadfast ministry today in the parishes of the Archdiocese. He says “a great joy of ministry is to see the grace of God enlighten the lives of other people. If we bring people to the Lord, He’ll do everything.”
