Catholic Appeal 2016 The Catholic Appeal for 2016 continues. We have received pledges of $21,957, which is 75% of our goal of $29,200 for this year. We have reached 108% of our assessment, which is $20,320. The parish will receive back 60% of the funds collected that are over our total assessment. For the 2015 Appeal, St. Brendan’s reached 94% of our goal and 144% of our assessment. We received checks for over $5,000 from the Archdiocese. This is the return to the parish because of how well we did last year!

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd The Good Shepherd Program is an approach to the religious formation of children. It is rooted in the Bible, the Liturgy of the Church and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children ages 2.9-6 years are eligible. The program will begin in October and is taught by Palma Kaneda and Taryne Bakalars on Wednesday mornings in the Parish Hall from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. This program is taking place throughout the world! Pope John Paul II visited and approved this program in Rome. Registrations are available in the Parish Hall. For more information, you can visit the national website www.cgsusa.org or contact Palma at [email protected] or Taryne at [email protected].

Vocations Cross One visible way to unite the entire community in praying for priests and for an increase in vocations is to encourage all parishioners to participate in “The Vocation Cross.” Each weekend, a different family will take the Vocation Cross home, placing it in a place of honor. The participants will pray for seven days for an increase and perseverance of vocations. They will return the Cross the following weekend. Parishioners, families or single people, can confirm their participation by recording their name and telephone number on the sign-up sheet located at the back of the Church. The hope is that this experience will encourage everyone to take seriously our vocation as a member of the Body of Christ and to pray for the gift of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Knowing the Spirit is calling men and women to these roles of service, may our prayer help inspire young men and women to be attentive to the movement of the Spirit within them and to step forward in faith with generous hearts. Contact Palma Kaneda for more information @ 774-233-0661 or [email protected] .

Veiling Ceremony for Sr. Sonya YOU ARE INVITED to attend the Veiling Ceremony for Sister Sonya which will take place here at St. Brendan's on Friday, August 5th. The ceremony will take place during a Vesper Service which will begin at 7:00 P.M. Sister Sonya will receive the habit, veil and a new name during the ceremony. A reception will be held after the ceremony in the parish hall. The parish is invited to join us in this happy celebration.

Catholic Doctrine Class Each year Fr. Mullen conducts a Catholic Doctrine Class that is appropriate for any adult seeking Baptism, Confirmation, or joining the Church as an adult who has already been baptized in some Christian denomination. It is also appropriate for anyone who wants to learn more about the Catholic faith. The class is presented in a seminar style and the text used is the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We have classes on Thursday nights at 7:00 P.M. We will be starting this class in mid September. If you have any questions then please contact Fr. Mullen. All are welcome.

Catholic Home School and Catholic School Students Please notify the Parish CCD Office if you have a child in a Catholic Home-School program, who is of sacramental age (2nd grade) and is preparing to receive First Penance and First Communion during the coming CCD year, 2016 - 2017. Catholic Home-School students and students attending Catholic High Schools and entering 9th grade, need to register for our two-year Confirmation preparation, and go through the parish program. Please feel free to call or email the office with any questions: 508-966-9802 or [email protected] or [email protected] .

Have You Visited Our Book Rack Lately?

At our front side entrance we have our parish book rack where all sorts of book (and videos) are available. This is in addition to the Lighthouse Media display at the back side entrance. The prices are very reasonable.

In this informative and dynamic presentation, Dr. Scott Hahn guides us to a deeper faith through the Old Testament historical roots that underlie Catholic beliefs and practices. Dr. Hahn clears up common misconceptions about specific liturgical rituals and traditions, and responds thoughtfully to the objections raised about them. Parishioner Comments "The best explanation I've ever heard on how the Sacraments are signs of God's covenant with us!" Julia - Mastic Beach, NY I enjoyed learning about our Catholic customs and our sacred traditions. Chick - Clarksville, MD

The CDs below are available at our Lighthouse Catholic Media display:

The Mission of the Catholic Communities of St. Blaise and St. Brendan is to be a people dedicated to spreading the Good News of God’s saving love to all, as we journey together in faith. As a sacramental people, united in the Eucharist, we seek to develop the full and active

participation of all peoples and strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we strive to give witness to God’s word and through the teachings of Jesus Christ actively follow the Gospel message by living the

corporal and spiritual works of mercy.

The Pilot is an important voice in the public square that brings you the Catholic perspective on current events.

Inspired by the vision of our publisher, Cardinal Seán O’Malley, The Pilot covers it all — from in-depth reporting on Pope Francis to the good works of Boston parishes.

Each week, The Pilot brings you the stories of Boston Catholics who bring the Works of Mercy to life on a daily basis.

Proclaiming the present Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis said he wants to make it evident that the Church’s mission is to be a witness of compassion. “Let us not forget that God forgives and God forgives always,” Pope Francis said. “Let us never tire of asking for forgiveness.”

We invite you to join the Pilot readership today for only $19.95. This limited-time offer saves you 49% off the regular subscription rate. Thank you for your support.
