From Father Arnold Tadena

Today we come to the high point of our Easter celebration, the Feast of Pentecost. Pentecost means, "fifty days" after the Resurrection of Christ. This is the conclusion of the holy fifty days and marks the exaltation of Jesus and the giving of the Holy Spirit by this glorified Christ. Through Pentecost, people reunify and bring all of us together under one universal family. This universal family embracing all races and nationalities is called Church. "Catholic" means "universal". And so the Pentecost is not only the feast reminding us of the coming of the Holy Spirit fifty days after the Resurrection, it is also the Birthday of the Church. For it is the Holy Spirit who is the driving force of the Church and every baptized Christian. The Spirit which Jesus gave as an everlasting gift to the apostles is the same Spirit at work in our present time. Today is, therefore, an op-portunity to rededicate ourselves to be active and faithful members of this family of God we call Church. The Feast of Pentecost this year is a proud day for the faith community of St. Charles. The celebration of the Mass at one o'clock this afternoon will commence with men and women who will receive the Sacrament of Confirma-tion, with Fr. Jim Bahash, our Pastor as the celebrant. So, the Sacrament of Confirmation completes your baptismal grace of initiation by binding you more perfectly to the Church and it also does this by enriching you with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Always remember that the grace given us in Confirmation is not just for our own good, but to build up the holy People of God, in unity and peace. Therefore, let us be reminded of our Christian mandate during the first Pentecost to be courageous as Christ was and a commitment to serve all people without condition regardless of who he or she is. It is because this is our mission in this world, to carry on the work of the Holy Spirit in God's holy church. Jesus is living in us through the power of the Holy Spirit. We received the gift of the Holy Spirit in Baptism and Confirmation. The Holy Spirit is encouraging us to do good works for the life of the Church. It is said in today's second read-ing "to each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord". This means that our God given talents are to be used for the building up of the Body of Christ, the Church. God does not give us the gifts just for ourselves. To each person a different gift is given. We must discover what our abilities are and use them for the glory of God. Let us humbly beg the Holy Spirit to help us fulfill the tasks that God gives each of us to accomplish. Above all, be ready to stand up for Christ and proclaim Him to the whole world, even at risk of our own lives from the persecutors.

Pastoral Letter of Marriage

May 24: Marriage: Love and Life In The Divine Plan:

Natural Family Planning “Natural family planning (NFP) methods represent authentic family planning. They can be used both to achieve and to postpone a pregnancy. NFP makes use of periodic absti-nence from sexual intercourse based upon the observation of the woman‘s natural signs of fertility, in order to space births or to limit the number of children when there is a serious reason to do so. NFP methods require that couples learn, accept, and live with the wonders of how God made them. This is essentially different from contraception.” To read the document go to http://www.usccb.org/loveandlife/.
