UPDATE ON ST. MARY’S CHURCH REPAIRS We have still not heard anything from the diocese. We probably won’t for a long time. Before the bishop gives us an OK to spend $120,000.00 to repair the structure and the ceiling, he has to consider not only the future of the church building but also the future of Catholic min-istry in this area. As previously mentioned, six of the seven area pastors are in their seventies, and close to re-tirement. He really has no priests to send to replace them. Also, St. Mary’s church is 127 years old. Is it wise to modify the structure? Are we opening a can of worms? Several parishioners have written to the bishop, expressing their desire that the church reopen. I’m sure the bishop is taking this into consideration. Let’s keep praying and hoping that the Holy Spirit will help Bishop Peter make the best decision.

NEW: Thursdays (beginning in 2021): The Knights Of Columbus will be reciting the Rosary every Thursday morning starting this Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 7:45AM. The Rosary will by followed by a Communion Service led by Dc. Tom. The Communion Service is for those who can’t come to Mass because of the virus.

Diocesan Seminarian Fund Collection is next Sunday, January 17. This collection funds the education and for-mation of men discerning the priesthood for the Diocese of Manchester. Donations help promote the vocations to the priesthood. Please be as generous as you can; we all know how great the need is. We are assessed $1,904.00 for that collection.

Let us come together for a 24-hour “Day of Adoration, Fasting and Prayer” for the intention that our nation will return to “A Cul-ture of Life”. Exposition and Adoration will be held in the Chapel in Franklin, from

Thursday January 28, at 7:00 PM until Friday Janu-ary 29, at 7:00 PM. This will coincide with the planned “March for Life” in Washington D.C. If you can commit to an hour or more with Jesus, please call Bill Driscoll at (603) 528-6109 (or sign up in the foyer at church).

NEW Check it Out! Now available to all parishioners is the St. Gabriel Parish Kiosk filled with literary and audio ma-terial to help understand, live and share your faith. Make a resolu-tion to increase your prayer life,

learn about the saints, understand the sacraments and church teachings, be inspired and evangelize family and friends. The kiosk is located at the entrance to St. Paul church. Donations are appreciated but not necessary. Thank you to the parishioner who has contributed to help us expand and share our faith. If you have any sugges-tions please call the office or let Carole Lemire know.

The Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, January 28 at the Boutin Cen-ter in Tilton. They will be there from 11 Am until 4:00 PM . To make an appointment call Mark Lemire 603-738-3101 or email: [email protected]

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK We are all Baptists! The Baptists are one of the largest groups of Protestants in the country. There are almost 25 million of them! And they find Baptism so important that they use the term to define themselves. At the age of 8 or so, a young Baptist will head down to the river or lake and “take the plunge”, committing to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. And Mormons go a step further. They too baptize all their members, but they have established an extensive genealogy program so that they can retroactively baptize all of their ancestors! In fact, all Christians value Baptism! Lutherans, Advent-ists, Jehovah’s Witnesses and Pentecostals may have abandoned just about all the other sacraments, but they hold fast to Baptism. And of course, Catholics, Angli-cans and the Orthodox have always devoutly cherished this precious gift from God. We know Jesus really pro-moted it: His very last instruction before ascending to heaven was: “make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Mt. 28) And “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.” (MK.16). It seems pretty clear

that Baptism is not only the way to become a Christian, it’s the key to heaven! Jesus himself was baptized: even though he had no sins and did not need conversion, our Lord led by example. By plunging into the Jordan River, He affirmed John the Baptist’s call to repentance. He also used this event as the launching of his public minis-try. And God the Father used it to affirm his Son’s iden-tity and mission. After the Ascension, the apostles and early Church leaders followed the Lord’s instruction and baptized each new convert. And they saw the Church grow by leaps and bounds, filled with dedicated and committed members, led by the Holy Spirit, and rooted in their love for God and each other. Through the ages, Baptisms has been seen as a sign of commitment: God’s commitment to bless and guide each newly bap-tized throughout their life. And the new member’s com-mitment to stay close to God, include Him in their life and allow God to help them become the best possible version of themselves. In a way we have all started out as “Baptists” but the graces and blessings gleaned from the Eucharist and the other sacraments have allowed us to get so much more out of our baptism!

  • From The Desk of Mrs. Dzujna, CRE This week we celebrated the Epiphany which is ob-served on January 6 by Roman Catholics. This feast celebrates the Three Kings who brought Jesus gifts which had a spiritual meaning: gold as a symbol of kingship on earth, frankincense (an incense) as a sym-bol of deity, and myrrh (an embalming oil) as a symbol of death. George and I wait to take down our Christmas decora-tions until after (what we refer to as) “Little Christmas” -- The Feast of the Three Kings or the Epiphany. I re-member as a student while in Catholic School, the Nuns would give us a small loaf of Wonder bread and a paper nativity scene in celebration of the Three Kings. I thought it was the most wonderful gift of all. Thank you for giving us the most wonderful gift of community during a time when we could not be with our families! Once again, please let us know if your child will be of the age to make Reconciliation, First Holy communion, or Confirmation. We will be celebrating these Sacra-ments in February and March of 2021. We will, of course, do whatever is most comfortable for you to pre-pare your child to receive the Sacraments. “I feel from a spiritual standpoint that there’s a real celebration of humanity, of the common bond of eve-rybody. We need each other.” Amy Grant
