So Jesus said to those that believed in him, “If you obey my teaching, you are really my disciples; you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:31-32 REFLECTION. Pope John Paul II, in his weekly audiences between September 1979 and November 1984, were comprised of a catechesis on the bodily dimension of human personhood, sexuality, and marriage. When confronted with a fundamental question about the meaning of marriage and human sexuality Jesus appealed to ‘the beginning’ described in the opening Chapters of Genesis. John Paul II proposed to do the same. (Theology of the Human Body n17) Pope John Paul II had the extraordinary ability to plumb to the very depths our Lords holy Church’s teachings on marriage and human sexuality. The Holy Father had the incomprehensible gift to present these beautiful truths, given to us by Christ Jesus, in a manner and language that could be easily understood by Modern Man. Next week excerpts from the first chapter of The Theology of The Human Body, ORIGINAL UNITY OF MAN AND WOMAN, will be presented. PRAYER. Sacred Heart of Jesus, with a profound sense of love and gratitude we thank you for the gift of Pope St. John Paul II. May the Holy Saint’s teachings on marriage and family life expose and destroy the confusion that exists in our modern world today. Ed Cecil, Respect Life Committee

The Forever Young Club will meet in

the Rodney Thomas Room on

Tuesday evening February 13th at

6:00 p.m. Potluck dinner will be

served. All are asked to bring entrees

of choice, veggies, salads, and desserts. Door prizes

are also needed. Program is to be determined. All

seniors are certainly welcome and are invited to

attend. We now have 76 members and we have a

great time. Please join us if possible.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

In case of inclement weather, Mass

and all other activities at Saint

James Catholic Church will be

cancelled if Saint James Catholic School has

cancelled classes or is running on a delayed

schedule. Every effort will be made to include

Saint James Catholic Church in TV and radio

cancellation announcements. Please use caution

when making the decision to attend Mass

throughout the winter months.

Safe Environment Training

The Archdiocese of Louisville is committed to

ensuring that children and youth who worship,

study or participate in church-sponsored

activities can do so in the safest and most secure

setting possible. In an effort to fulfill this

commitment, all employees or volunteers who

have contact with children or youth (18 and

under) for ANY length of time are required to

participate in one of the Safe Environment

Training Workshops. Saint James Catholic

STEWARDSHIP

+VOCATION VIEW+

The Lord will come when we least expect him. Is he

knocking now, asking us to serve as a priest or

religious? (Luke 12:49-53)

First Sunday of Lent

First Reading: Genesis 9:8-15

Second Reading: 1 Peter 3:18-22

Gospel: Mark 1:12-15

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading: Leviticus 13:1-2, 44-46

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:31–11:1

Gospel: Mark 1:40-45

In the same way that leprosy separated people from

their communities until they were healed, sin sepa-

rates us from God until we ask for forgiveness and

healing. Let us have the faith of the leper in today’s

Gospel, and believe in the healing words and touch

of Jesus when it is our time to need forgiveness.

“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do

everything for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

St. Paul goes straight to the essence of stewardship, "do

everything for the Glory of God." If we see stewardship

as a life in gratitude to God, all we do, say, or give is a

thankful response that gives glory to the Giver of that very

life.

REMINDER

Stewardship forms are due Monday, February 12.

Please help us in preparing our 2018-2019 parish budget by

returning your forms by the deadline. All parishioners

who turn their forms in by February 12 will be entered into

one or both of the drawings below.

Stewardship Incentives There will be two drawings on

Wednesday, February 14

1. All parishioners who return their stewardship

form by February 12 will be put into a drawing for

their choice of one of the incentives listed below:

2. All parishioners who turn in their stewardship

form by February 12 and sign up for automatic

withdrawal will be put into a separate drawing for

their choice of one of the incentives listed below:

Historic Brown Hotel—

one night stay for two people

Louisville Zoo—Safari Gold Family Pass

Derby Dinner Playhouse-two season ticket passes

Kentucky Kingdom—four season passes

$200 Kroger Gift Card

2018 Black and Indian Mission Collection

Next weekend, we will take up the annual Black and Indian

Mission Collection (BIMC). This Collection exists to help diocesan

communities build the Church and preach the Gospel of Jesus

among the African American, Native American, and Alsada

Native people of God. Your donations help fund parish-based

catechetical programs, support teacher and catechist

professional development, encourage vocations to the

priesthood and religious life, and create diocesan structures,

such as our own archdiocesan Office of Multicultural Ministry,

that support ministry and evangelization in these diverse cultural

communities. Please be generous.
