CHILDREN RECEIVING COMMUNION A reminder to Parents & Guardians to keep instructing and reinforcing by your exam-ple the way to come forward and receive Communion. The Adult should keep a hand on the shoulder of the younger children. Gently guide them forward, close to the Priest or Minister of Communion. Show them how to hold their hands up high and out. (Remember Fr Dave is very tall!) Please stay with your children. It is best not to send them to different Ministers of Com-munion, but to stay with them and let them see and experience your example of the practice of our Faith. For those who are not yet of age to receive the Eucharist, keep them close with you and show them how to cross their arms over their chest prior to standing in front of the Priest or Minister of Communion. Keep your hand on their shoulder and gently encourage them to stand close to the Min-ister for a simple blessing.

ABOUT TODAY’S READINGS Jesus’ mission, His purpose, was rela-tively basic. He came among us, to suffer in our behalf, to die, and to rise again. Although the entire understanding of what the Lord did for each of us may seem complex, it is comparatively simple in many ways. Today’s readings and to-day’s Gospel explicate this for us. The Book of Isaiah is one of the most significant of the Old Testament. There is a common theme that runs through the entire Book, and it is the theme of salva-tion. The major part of Isaiah is some-thing that was found among the Dead Sea Scrolls and it predates Jesus by more than 100 years. Isaiah was truly a prophet as he anticipated the Messiah who was to come as well as the salvation the Lord would bring. Our First Reading on this 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time, which comes to us from Isaiah, speaks to two key aspects of the Messiah to come — obedience and sub-

mission. These are two elements to which we, too, are called. Being a Catho-lic and a Christian entails being obedient to God, and it also requires that we see God as the controlling factor in our lives. We trust Him, and we rely on Him in all aspects of how we live and what we do. In other words, as good stewards we live God-centered lives. When Isaiah says “I have set my face like flint,” he is quoting the Messiah and indicating Jesus’ deter-mination and resolve in fulfilling His mission. That may be demanding for us

A training session will be held to explain what is expected of a sponsor. Family Assistance has identified the third Sunday of each month for the collection of food from parishioners attending Mass. Donated food is distributed to families in need from the Ministry's Food Pantry on Thursday afternoons. No one is turned down. To service the need of the families who seek food from our pan-try, we need at least 200 bags of food every month. This feeds approximately 800 people per month. This number has almost doubled during the past year, and, our need for food assistance continues to increase. We are no longer providing the blue bags, as they are not coming back filled. You can use any type of bag or container you wish. The third Sunday of each month is also Green Envelope Sunday. Your donations from the green envelopes are the source of funds that enable Family Assistance to provide financial aid to working poor families and families at risk of becoming homeless. Should you have any ques-tions, please contact Kevin Durkin at (714) 974-9728. Thank you for your gen-erous support!

TMIY will begin on Sunday, October 4th at 6:45 am in the Parish Hall. This is an exciting program that touched the hearts of over 60 men last year. In addition we will begin a women’s fellowship program called Endow. Sign-up for Endow will also be on Sunday, September 20 after all Masses. Endow will begin with a women’s retreat on Friday, September 25, at 7:00 pm in the church. Please mark your calendar.

to emulate, but that is the steadfastness the Lord expects from us. James speaks eloquently to this same fortitude as reflected by how we live out our faith. Living our faith out is at the crux of the message in our Second Read-ing. We are called to have an active and alive faith that is exemplified by our ac-tions, by what we do to be good stewards of our multiple gifts. Faith as James de-scribes it is impossible to see; it is intan-gible. However, James makes it clear that what we do, our works, how we live as good stewards, can be seen. It is the real indication of the faith that cannot be seen. As James states so powerfully, “Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works.” The most vigorous way we can display our belief in the promise of Christ is to show our trust in Him by what we do, by how we serve, by how we live out our lives of stewardship. Living faith produces loving action. In the Gospel from Mark, Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” The disciples repeat what they have heard people say — “ John the Baptist…Elijah…one of the prophets,” but it is St. Peter who identifies who the Lord really is — “You are the Christ.” We must nev-er forget that “Christ” means “the anoint-ed,” the “Messiah,” “Christ” is not a name; it is a title. We often criticize and diminish Peter for some of his errors and misjudgments, but in this instance, he has the correct and complete answer, alt-hough he completely reverses himself in the following verses. As we have pointed out many times, there is the world of humankind, and there is the world of God. Peter initially speaks from a God-centered angle, but then he immediately changes to a human outlook. This is the same trial we face — to see beyond the obvious and to appreciate the divinity and holiness of the Lord. When we plant a seed, we lose sight of it; it basically dies to our perception. Believing, having faith and trust, allows us to envision the plant and the fruits that the seed will pro-duce. Trust in God allows us to believe, to have faith, and to show our faith with actions. Liturgy of the Word for Children will be taking a summer break from now until Sunday, September 27, 2015. This is due to the Church’s summer schedule and vacation schedules. We will miss having this wonderful program but we know we will still see you at Mass every week-end. Even in the summer, going to Mass should always be our first priority each weekend. Participation at Mass is our highest form of praise and worship, and receiving the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ is our most ex-travagant Gift! The Explaining God’s Word weekly handout will be in the bookcase in the back of the Church.

Spiritual Adoption time is nearing! Spir-itual adoption is the opportunity for Fam-ilies to pray for an unknown baby whose mother might be contemplating having an abortion. Each Family can choose a boy or girl, and name this baby. During the next 9 months the Families will pray for their “adopted” baby daily. In June 2016, there will be a Baby Shower at which time gifts can be donated to the Respect Life Ministry for distribution to Life Centers here in Orange County. READINGS FOR THE WEEK

LLLIGHTSIGHTSIGHTS, C, C, CAMERAAMERAAMERA….. F….. F….. FAITHAITHAITH All adult parishioners are invited to our movie presentation of “Little Red Wagon”. It will be shown in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Religious Education Center on Tues-day, September 29, at 7:00 pm. “Little Red Wagon” is based on a true story about a young boy who becomes the youngest head of a nonprofit organization in the US to help the homeless. Starting with the homeless resulting from Hurricane Charley’s dev-astation of Southern Florida in 2004, Zack Bonner, age 8, feels the need to do some-thing to help its victims. Using his little red wagon he eventually collects three truck-loads of food and supplies. As with many things in life, all is not smooth. Despite government intervention due to his age and the magnitude of the problem, Zack and his family find ways to continue their mission. This movie clearly shows what a little boy can do with God’s help and a lot of perseverance. Bring a friend and join us for this showing of what one person can do. Tuesday, Sep-tember 29, 7:00 in the Religious Education’s MPR. We Don't have a balcony, but the SNACK BAR is OPEN!!
