TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

There are many ways in which religious communities are organized. Some have a central authority in a congregation, and others have a “rule” that is shared by all the members, but are a kind of federation of independent houses. Sometimes, congregations with distinct histories and ministries decide to merge. Several years ago, one of the largest mergers on record took place. Seven independent congregations of Dominican women religious, most in the Midwest, are now one new congregation enfolding more than seven hundred members spanning thirty-six states. The oldest of the founding groups, the so-called “Kentucky Dominicans,” began as a frontier community in 1822. Other communities have European roots. To get to this historic moment, the sisters spent many years in conversation, and approved the new structure by a two-thirds majority vote. This was then ratified by the Holy See. The merger allows the sisters to pool their resources in order to be more effective in ministry. They are living the Paschal Mystery, experiencing Christ’s dying and rising in an inspiring way.

Stephen Ministers Commissioned Today

Why pray the rosary daily? At Fatima (1917) Our lady said "I am the lady of the Rosary. Pray the rosary every day to obtain peace for the world. After each decade say the following prayer: Oh my Jesus forgive us our sins save us from the fire of hell, and lead all souls to heaven especially those in most need of Thy mercy." "Whosever dies clothed in this, shall never suffer eternal fire." Our Lady's Scapular Promise. On October 13th, 1917, at the last Apparition at Fatima, our Blessed Mother appeared, dressed as Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Silently she held out to the world the brown scapular - the sign of personal consecration - the sign of eternal salvation. Lucy at Fatima explained: "The Scapular and the Rosary are inseparable." Saint Francis de Sales said that the greatest method of praying is to pray the rosary. St. Thomas Aquinas preached 40 straight days in Rome, Italy, on just the Hail Mary. St John Vianney, patron of priests, was seldom seen without a rosary in his hand. "The rosary is the scourge of the devil" Pope Adrian VI said.

There are so many Ministries in our Parish that can offer help, from receiving communion if you are homebound to someone that will visit with you once a week and pray with you. Don't be afraid to reach out, you could start by praying the rosary daily and our Blessed Mother will comfort you. If you or someone you

know could possibly use spiritual care, call Stephen Ministry.

Third Sunday Of Easter April 15, 2018

490 Babies Saved From Abortion in Latest 40 Days for Life Prayer Event which just ended on Palm Sunday.

"The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." (Genesis 2:7)

Reflection: The act of creation described in Genesis 2:7 is a sovereign act. God did not have to do it, and would have been happy forever without us. Yet without our asking for it or earning it, God brought us out of nothingness and into life, and sustains our existence at every moment.

Prayer: Lord, teach us the lesson that there is no God but you, and that no human being has dominion over life. Fill us with awe in your presence. Amen.

7 Third Sunday Of Easter April 15, 2018

BELIEVING IN JESUS CHRIST Throughout the Easter season, all three of the Sunday readings are taken from the New Testament—the Christian scriptures. Together they explore what it means to believe in Jesus as the Christ, the One who fulfilled the prophecies of the Jewish scriptures. Today’s selections refer to our human weakness, yet they emphasize the forgiveness and peace that are available to those who put their faith in “Jesus Christ the righteous one” (1 John 2:2). In the Acts of the Apostles Peter invites everyone to “repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away” (Acts 3:19). The First Letter of John calls Jesus Christ “expiation for our sins” (1 John 2:2). Finally, in the Gospel Jesus greets the disciples with “Peace” and urges them to preach “repentance, for the forgiveness of sins” (Luke 24:47).
