Twenty-fifth SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME VigÉsimo Quinto DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO

Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel, the vineyard owner says, “I am free to do as I please with my money, am I not?” We are likewise free. Is a generous return to the Lord in thanksgiving for His many blessings among the choices we have made?

Sisters Bernadine Reyes and Ursula Herre-ra, will speak at our Masses the weekend of Sept. 24-25, regarding the Benedictine Sis-ters’ ministry and mission house, Caridad de Corazón, in Eagle Pass, TX. The minis-try includes housing and directing mission groups to the many needs along both sides of the Border.

GYM UPDATE: Our new gym is more than halfway done!

IN THE MIDST OF THE PROBLEMS OF THIS WORLD THERE IS GREAT HOPE AND JOY.

Two of our young adults have put service to the less fortunate before their own

careers. Laura Schulz, daughter of Paul and Martha Schultz, is serving in the

Peace Corp in the Philippines and Mona Rominger, daughter of Whit and Elva

Rominger, is serving as a Salesian Lay Missionary at a girls orphanage in

Montero, Bolivia. We should be proud of their ability to share their gifts as a

sign of their faith. Keep them in prayer.

John Nolan, our seminarian, will be ordained a deacon at the Cathedral on Nov.

19, 2011 and ordained a priest on the morning of May 19, 2012. His 1st mass

will be here at St. Luke on May 19th at the 5:30 mass. Mike English is the new-

est seminarian from the parish. Mike just began his seminarian studies last

month. Let's keep our future priests in prayer.

RCIA — IT’S NOT TOO LATE

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process of inviting people into the Catholic Church. The invitation is God’s work; the response is ours. The process is a step by step journey of faith, in which interested people may slowly look at the Catholic Faith and decide if the Catholic Church is where they are being called; or for those who have been away from the Church for some time and would now like to “come home” to participate fully in the Sacramental life of the Church. RCIA Classes for the year 2011-12 have just begun, but IT’S NOT TOO LATE for you to join us on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm in the St. Joseph Room in the Church Bldg. If you have questions about the Catholic Faith or would like to know more about the RCIA process, please call the Faith Formation Office at 433-2777 Ext 138, or Martin Schott at 521-9079.

THURSDAY MORNING SCRIPTURE CLASS

Thursday Morning Scripture Classes have resumed and are being held at 10 am on Thursday mornings in Room 211, through May 2012. Al Eisch, former missionary to Peru for 14 years, lecturer to the Conference of Religious in Peru and a mental health counselor, will lead the group. Everyone is welcome and generally participants join the group when they are not occupied with another ministry in the church or community.

Mr. Eisch anchors the readings towards a better understanding of the larger message of the Scrip-tures and this year will incorporate DVD archeologi-cal research presentations on the Holy Lands. Around 11 am, there will be a social break. After the break, those who remain, or new persons who join, reflect on the upcoming Sunday readings. The tentative topics for 2011-2012 are the books of Ju-dith, Maccabees (the last historical book prior to the birth of Jesus) and the Gospel of Mark.

All are welcome any day that they are free and in-spired to draw closer to the source.
