SECOND COLLECTION
My Dear Parishioners,
On the weekend August 16 our second collection
focuses on our rural parishes and missions in our
diocese.
On the weekend of August 16 the Diocese of Las
Vegas will take up a collection to benefit our rural
parishes and missions. This collection is used to
help sustain rural parishes and missions that could
not otherwise remain open. Many of these parishes
are long distances from the next neighboring parish
and serve populations that are small and therefore
unable to maintain ministries and buildings
completely on their own.
These communities may be very small in population,
but the parishioners, although small in numbers, are
a beacon to their fellow citizens of their Catholic
faith. It is not possible for these churches to meet
the increasing financial burdens of upkeep of
buildings, utilities and parish activities. They
depend on us to assist them in their religious
education programs and evangelization programs.
Without this assistance, these missions and rural
parishes would cease to be a Catholic presence in
their communities.
I ask for your assistance in helping to keep our rural
Catholic communities alive by giving generously to
this local need.

Queridos fieles,
El fin de semana del 16 de agosto la dicesis quiere
resaltar la importancia de nuestras parroquias rurales
y misiones.
Durante el fin de semana del 16 de agosto la dicesis
de Las Vegas realizar una colecta a beneficio de las
parroquias rurales y misiones. Esta colecta se utiliza
para ayudar a mantener parroquias rurales y misiones
que de otro modo no podran permanecer abiertas a
los fieles. Muchas de estas parroquias se encuentran
a largas distancias de la parroquia ms cercana y
sirven a poblaciones pequeas y por lo tanto no
pueden mantener por s mismos los ministerios y los
edificios que tienen.
Estas comunidades podrn ser muy pequeas en
poblacin pero sus fieles, aunque pequeos en
nmero, son una verdadera luz para sus hermanos en
la fe. No es posible para estas iglesias poder cubrir
todos los costos econmicos, cada vez mayores, que
supone el mantenimiento de las instalaciones, las
utilidades y las actividades parroquiales. Ellos
dependen de nuestra ayuda en sus programas de
educacin religiosa y de evangelizacin. Sin nuestra
ayuda, estas misiones y parroquias rurales cesaran
de ser una presencia catlica en sus comunidades.

Family founded by Saint John Paul II and sponsored by the
Pontifical Council for the Family in Rome and the Philadelphia
Archdiocese. There will be many internationally known speakers to
discuss what can help strengthen the sacred bonds of families
across the globe. A special track for youth and childcare will be
available. Pope Francis will visit Sept 26 & 27 and celebrate

Remember. . .Now that the warm weather season is upon us, we
would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the
important need to dress properly when coming to church. What might
be fine to wear around your house or to go to the store in, may not
be appropriate to wear to Gods house. Dresses and tops that have
low cut fronts, that are backless, sleeveless or have spaghetti
straps, shorts (Bermuda or other type of short pant) along with
short skirts and dresses all fall into the category of
inappropriate clothing. How a person chooses to dress can truly say
a lot about that person. Let the clothes we choose to wear,
especially to church, say to everyone that we love, honor and

Information for celebrating a Catholic
Marriage in the Diocese of Las Vegas
For couples wishing to get married and live within our
Diocese:
1. Couples should not set a wedding date until they have met
with their parish priest. 2. Couples should contact the brides
parish to set a meeting with the parish priest at least six months
before the anticipated date of the wedding. 3. Weddings will take
place in the brides parish unless permission is given by the Pastor
for the wedding to take place in another church.

placed in these boxes will be used by the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul to prepare food bags for needy individuals and families except
