NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS STUDY CLUB NEWS Manuel I. Weisman assumed the post of president when the Georgia Association of Endodontists held its annual meeting and installation of of- ficers on Feb 15. Installed along with Dr. Weisman were Donald B. McGinty, president- elect, and James W. Riggins, secretary- treasurer. James W. Griffin, outgoing president, was presented with a gavel- mounted desk set in appreciation for his year of service. Herbert E. Brizel, director of ther- apeutic radiology at the Medical Col- lege of Georgia in Augusta, was the meeting's guest speaker and discussed recent advances in radiotherapy of neoplastic diseases. Last year, an ll-man group met in Miami to organize the Greater Miami Endodontic Study Club. At a subse- quent November meeting, they elected Jack Landsberg president, Gerald Wernick vice-president, and Jon Rauch secretary-treasurer. The group, now numbering 27 members, plans to meet quarterly on the first Thursdays of August. No- vember, February, and May in the board room of Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami. Some of their past programs have featured Sheldon Blum on "A dye diffusion study of the interface between sealer and core"; Lewis H. Factor on "Local effects of system- ically administered oxytetracycline on healing following mechanically in- duced pulp tissue damage in rats": and Martin Levin on "Antimicrobial action of root canal cements in vitro." At a recent meeting, Jens O. An- dreasen provided an insight into per- iodontal and endodontic complica- tions after surgical and traumatic in- juries. He covered such areas as ankylosis, resorption, periapical scar- ring. and failures of bhmderbuss canal treatment. Another meeting featured Leif Tronstad of the University of Lund in Malmo. Sweden. The Oregon State Board of Ex- aminers has asked the newly formed Oregon State Society of Endodontists to develop guidelines and recommen- dations for the establishment of a specialty board in endodontics for the state. The Edgar D. Coolidge Endodontie Study Club, meeting in Chicago on Feb 16. heard an informative talk on periapical lesions by William G. Sharer. The Tar Heel Endodontic Associa- tion (North Carolina) has written an article on paraformaldehyde-contain- ing pastes. Reprints of the article. which appeared in the August 1974 Richard C. Samuel Seltzer presented a program on "Tomorrow's root canal fillings" at a recent meeting of the Northern California Academy of Endodonties. Edwin B. Brown, president of the NCAE, represented the group at a California Dental Association meeting on unifying the approach of special- ties and general dentistry toward agen- cies affecting dentistry (peer review and state and federal government legislation in dentistry). Another program of the NCAE featured "Nouveau endeau," chaired by Richard C. Burns, chairman of the Pacific Coast Conference of Endo- dontics. Speakers at this program were Robert E. Cassidy, Oleg Obuhoff, Jay Friedman, Marwan Abou-Rass, Her- bert Schilder, and Stephen L. Fox. The Georgia Association of En- dodontists installed new oHicers at its annual meeting.
