Ignatian Volunteer
Corps (IVC) New Eng-
land, a yearlong volun-
teer opportunity for
women and men 50 years of age and better, is recruiting
volunteers for the upcoming (September to June) year.
Volunteers give two full days/week of service and com-
mit to a monthly spiritual reflection program in the Jesuit
tradition. IVC works with nonprofits in the Boston/
Worcester/Providence areas that address problems of
homelessness, education, immigration and more. Get info

The class was having a discussion about what really matters in life and where we find a sense of value and success. As the stu-dents grappled with the notion of material wealth and its im-portance to a sense of accomplishment, one girl recalled a con-versation she had with her friend as they browsed through the flea market at the parish summer festival. As they looked at all the items for sale, her friend remarked, “Imagine! All this meant something to someone a long time ago. Now it’s all junk!” Jesus tells the parable of the rich man who places his trust in his material wealth. But His disciples must place their hope and treasure, their value and worth in the Lord. It is not worth the effort to focus time, energy and attention on things that will not last, if we lose the chance to build wealth that lasts forever. Ma-terial things are important, but not at the cost of our values, morals and ideals. As the popular proverb says, you can’t take it with you! Focus on your spiritual investments and possessions. Make a little time for prayer. Volunteer for service to others. Make it a habit to give to the food bank, or other group in your parish that helps the needy. Use your rosary. Attend Mass on vacation. Don’t neglect your spiritual needs and values. It is the only thing you take with you.

St. Vincent de Paul Society—Sociedad de San Vicente de Paul
Thank you for your donations left in the back of the church. We meet every Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30pm at
Fr. Thomas Hall. Through your generosity we are able to provide food vouchers to Stop & Shop for those in
need. Once a month we provide, laundry and dish detergent, shampoo, hand soap and tooth paste. Again we
appeal to your generosity to leave some of these items at the back of the church, so that we may continue to
do this. Saint Vincent de Paul is not able to accept used clothing.
