Dear Readers"Scorchio maximo" that's all I can say after listening to Shorty.B onthe Big Breakfast Show at a Heat FM. I've adopted the very apt wordfor the current heatwave....Scorchio, and I have just decided todayto add on Maximo because that's exactly how I feel right now. I'vebeen out visiting my customers and meeting up with the team hereat the "Weekly Buzz" only to hear myself complaining time and timeagain throughout the day about the heat...I should really be used tothe summer time in Spain as I've lived here now for 6 years, but youknow it really doesn't get any easier. I'm in and out of the car andalso walking around, so it does sometimes become a little bit toomuch. What I do like most of all about July is to chill out in the after-noon and spend as much time as possible to watch Wimbledon.Being an avid tennis fan watching Murray during the competition sofar has been a display of brilliance and seeing Heather Watsoncome close to what could of been the biggest upset against the all-time champion Serena Williams, gave me what I love most about thegame, and that is, you never know until the final ball is served whatthe outcome will be because anything can change, at any time.

So let's keep the "HEAT" turned up and talk about the recentchanges to the show line up weekdays from 8am at the most popu-lar Hit Music Station in the Costa Blanca, Yes, "Heat FM Spain" hasbeen voted the most listened to local radio and is growing fast inpopularity across the North Costa Blanca. Now with four live presen-ters taking you through the day from 8am until 9pm, you can wakeup to the humour and wit of Shorty.B or relax the afternoon away bythe pool with Ian Oogly. So, whatever floats your boat, tune in on90.3 Benidorm to Altea or 106.8 Calpe to Javea and remember, youcan also listen live via the website, phone App or even via EuropaNetwork TV so you can literally listen anywhere.

In the meantime, I would like remind everyone who can, to comealong and join in the fun at the Vincent's Plaza Pub RinconBenidorm this coming Saturday from 6pm to help support MABS, thecancer charity who will be helping us entertain the guests for a liveHeat FM broadcast including live entertainment, competitions andraffle with some great prizes to give away. We have more summerfun to come with events in Benidorm, Albir and Altea during July andAugust.

Please don't forget that If you are involved in any organisation orcharity or if you can tell us about any local events, charity fundrais-ing especially or if there are any summer BBQ's going on please tellus about it! Email [email protected]

Happy reading! Marco - Editor

The fugitives are wanted by UK law enforcementagencies in connection with crimes including mur-der, rape, indecent assault of a child and drug traf-ficking. They are believed to be hiding among Britishcommunities in popular ex-pat areas – includingBenidorm, Malaga and Puerto Banus.

The digital screen, attached to the back of a van, is tour-ing all these areas and parking outside nightclubs, bars,British supermarkets and restaurants. It is hoped thatgoing direct to the fugitives’ back yards and putting theirfaces in plain sight will help to flush them out.

Lord Ashcroft KCMG PC, the Founder and Chair ofCrimestoppers, said: “Operation Captura has proved ahuge success since it was launched in 2006 and themajority of individuals on our most wanted list have beencaptured.

“However, there are still a number of criminals who areevading arrest. We must ensure these individuals arebrought to justice.”

Steve Reynolds, NCA Deputy Director, added: “We’vecaught 68 out of 86 fugitives on the Captura list and therest know we won’t stop until we catch them too.“By taking our campaign directly into Spanish communi-

ties where we believe they are living and socialising, theirlives will become even more uncomfortable. We wantBritish expats and locals to help us by being extra eyesand ears and telling us what they know.

“These fugitives are wanted for serious crimes. Anyonewho is helping them stay on the run, such as girlfriends, wives, family members back home, or criminal associ-ates, should know that assisting them is an offence too.

“There may also be people in the UK with vital informa-tion on the whereabouts of these fugitives and we wouldurge them to get in touch.”

Roger Critchell, Director of Operations forCrimestoppers, said: “This is something that we havenever done before but we believe that broadcastingthese fugitives’ faces right in their back yards will not only

encourage the public to speak up but show these individ-uals that there really is nowhere to hide.

“I would urge anyone who recognises any of those facesto contact Crimestoppers anonymously. We don’t takepersonal details and you won’t have to give a statementor go to court.

Captura, a multi-agency initiative betweenCrimestoppers, the NCA and Spanish authorities, is nowin its ninth year.

Its aim is to track down British fugitives believed to behiding among ex-pat communities in the Spanish Costas.

A fresh appeal in March this year saw three fugitives cap-tured within a matter of weeks.

Convicted killer Shane Walford, 38, from Coventry, wasdetained in the Canary Islands in March – just days afterthe appeal.

Paul Monk, 54, from Romford, Essex was arrested inApril at his home in Alicante, Spain. He was wanted fordrugs offences. Jason McDonald, 37, originally fromBristol, was picked up by police at an apartment inAmsterdam hours later. He was also wanted for drugsoffences.

Crimestoppers and the NCA work closely with theForeign and Commonwealth Office in Madrid and withBritish and Spanish law enforcement agencies as part ofthe campaign.

Information given to Crimestoppers can help locate thefugitives on the Captura list. For those people callingfrom Spain there is a special freephone Spanish number900 555 111 which will be answered in the UK byCrimestoppers’ call agents. A translation service is avail-able upon request. People can also pass on informationanonymously via the Crimestoppers number 0800 555111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org

LOOK AFTER YOUR PASSPORT!With tens of thousands of British resi-dents living in Spain, and millions ofUK visitors heading for Spanish holi-day resorts and beaches this summer, the Foreign Office has launched avideo campaign to help Britons avoidthe threat of passport thieves.

Out of the 15 million British tourists whocame to Spain last year, more than 3000reported their passports stolen and almost

1800 reported their passport lost 1.Worldwide, more than 20,000 Britishpassports were either lost or stolen in2014-15.

To make people more aware of the risks, stealth crime expert and ‘Man of Steal’James Freedman has worked with theForeign Office to create a series of videos2 that show the techniques used by pass-port thieves, and offer advice on how to

avoid becoming a victim. You can watchthem on the Foreign Office YouTube chan-nel at: www.youtube.com/user/fcotravel.James Freedman says:

“Pickpockets and thieves constantlyevolve their techniques and tactics. Thesevideos show just a handful of ways that apickpocket might attempt to stealfrom you, so remember somebasic advice to stay safe.

“If you don’t need to take yourpassport with you, leave it inyour hotel safe instead. Onlycarry what you need and keepvaluables in a secure pocket. Ifyou have a bag or case, neverlet it out of your sight. Be morealert in crowds and wary of any-one getting too close. Finally, try notto advertise the location of prized pos-sessions by patting your pockets or bags.”

British nationals in Spain tell of a range ofhustle techniques used against them, including:• A bunch of children surrounding you andpatting you whilst begging for money. Afterthey leave you discover they have alsopicked your pockets and bag.• Being followed onto a crowded under-ground train by two apparent ‘nuns’, whothen pickpocket your wallet.• Having a bag stolen from your car whileleaving it momentarily unlocked to go to arubbish bin, even though you are only afew feet away.• Being asked to help get something froma top shelf whilst your pocket is thenpicked.• Being pricked with a sharp object that isenough to draw blood, and in the confu-sion your bag disappears.

Dealing with a lost or stolen passport can

be expensive andtime-consuming. Thevictim may need toreport the theft to thepolice, and spend timeand money at the localBritish Consulate get-ting an emergencytravel document.

The British Embassyoffers five top tips forkeeping your passportsafe:

1. If you need to carry your passport, ensure it is well concealed2. Never take your eye off a bag or case, even for a moment3. Be alert in crowds and wary of anyonegetting too close or seeking to distract you

4. When driving, keep your valu-ables secure and out of sight –and be aware of thieves using

distraction techniqueseither on the road orwhen you park5. Avoid advertising thelocation of your passportand valuable possessionsbypatting your pockets orbags

It is also a good idea to leave aphotocopy of your passport withfriends or family, or store an elec-

tronic copy securely.

If your passport is lost or stolen, you canreport it to the Spanish police by calling+34 902 102 112 (a multilingual service). If you need to travel urgently, you canapply for an emergency travel documentat the nearest British Consulate (visitwww.gov.uk/emergency-travel-documentor call + 34 917 146 300).

Death Threats OverBull Fight Cuts

By Maria JimenezThe mayor ofPaiporta, IsabelMartín, has report-ed to police thatpeople have beenposting deaththreats against herover Facebookafter her govern-ment announcedthe city would notsubsidize bull-fights, accordingto news agencyEFE.

Many people of the Valencian town whoare Pro-bullfighting logged onto theFacebook page of the town's previousmayor, Vicente Ibor, to complain about thedecision, taking direct aim at the newmayor in particular: "Just like she took thebulls away from us, I will kill her", wroteone person, while another threatened tolock her up with a massive "fierce" bull.

Martin reported the messages to the localpolice last Thursday, which were then

transferred to theCivil Guard toi n v e s t i g a t ewhether they con-stituted a crime.

The authors of thetwo posts, as wellas four peoplewho liked thecomments, arescheduled to testi-fy in court onThursday July 9th.

Many bullfighting clubs have been affect-ed by the cuts with Catalonia and theCanary Islands having banned bullfightingcompletly, but members of the ruling PPhave tried to get the blood sport protectedas part of Spanish cultural heritage, rais-ing concerns about whether it could returnto those regions.

The new government in San Sebastianrecently lifted a three-year-old ban on bull-fighting to reintroduce the tradition.

POLOP - CRAFT FAIR IN THEPICTURESQUE OLD TOWN CENTREPolop is one of these pretty vil-lages you pass on your way tosomewhere else; from the roadyou can see castle ruins on thehill, towering over a collection ofhiggledy-piggledy roofs and getthat "we simply must visit it oneday but not just now" feeling.

Well, on 17, 18 and 19 July you candrop by and have a look at a smallbut exclusive Craft Fair and take thetime, just for once, to wander throughthe pretty streets and squares, per-haps even climb the hill to take in theview. And for three weeks after, thestalls will build up each evening (7pm till midnight) in the "Plaza de losChorros" - a charming square with212 spouts out of which water spurts.

In fact, Polop is a really charmingplace and deserves to be much bet-ter known.

Polop does its best to attract morepeople. It recently opened a newmuseum dedicated to the writerGabriel Miró, who spent a lot of timein, and wrote several novels and sto-ries about Polop. The museum ishoused in a beautifully restored ArtNouveau building (well worth a visit)right in the centre of the village. Themuseum is also the tourist office, where you can pick up a folder (alsoin English) that guides you past all

the nicest streets and squares andthen up the hill to the castle ruins, from which there are magnificent

views over the surrounding country-side. Originally the castle was built tomake sure that nobody sneaked pastto devastate the countryside.

And now Polop is holding a Craft Fair- potters, a painter, people workingwith wood and leather and othercraftsmen set up shop in the middleof the old town, right in front of theold church. The Fair is organised byAmata, the regional craft association, and everything you will see in theFair will have been made by the peo-ple on the stall. They will take theirtools, materials and equipment with

them; you can watch them at workand perhaps get them to change adetail to what is on the stall or add aname. Remember, this is a CraftFair, not an open air pound shop.

The Mayor of Polop would have likedthe stalls to stay all summer in thesquare, but that would mean therewould be no place for the people liv-ing in the small streets to park theircar. Perhaps you think they shouldwalk, but that's no fun when you'recarrying the week's groceries or yourlegs are not quite as good as theywere twenty years ago. So eventual-ly it was decided to have a real Craft

Fair in the square by the church forthree days, and then move some ofthe stalls to the Plaza de los Chorros.

There are more than 200 of thesechorros, each with its own stream ofnice cold water and even after a fairlydry year, more than 70 are stillactive. Take your plastic bottlesalong so that you can come homewith some genuine Agua de Polop.

Weather experts have said the Spanish heatwave willnot be letting up at least until mid-July, this is greatnews for holiday makers but for those who live andwork here are not so happy!

Unfortunately by mid-July the country is in the peak of itssummer as the tempretures still steadily rise into August.

The country entered its second back-to-back heatwaveat the weekend, with the National Meteorological Agency(AEMET) said that the current temperatures have beensignificantly higher than normal for this time of year.

“The heatwave is dangerous not just because of itsabsolute values, but because it is very prolonged,” saidCayetano Torres, AEMET’s delegate in the Madridregion.

Last weekend, people took to social media to share thetemperatures in their area, with higher temperaturesseen inland, Madrid registered temperatures of 41ºC.

This time the cause is a body of hot air coming in from theAfrican desert that is affecting Spain, France and Britain.“What we are experiencing now is a cloud of Africanheat,” said Torres.

Temperatures are dropping in the evening but on anaverage of 10ºC at most, with high humidity levels.

The town council of Altea has been proactive andreleased information to help you and your family staysafe in the heat, find the article on page 13.

The socialist mayor of Infrastructure andbeaches, Roque Ferrer, stated that thisyear the beach service will consist of 19

Feeling the Heat?By Maria Jimenez

The Department of Health of the City of Altea hascome to the rescue with a list of important informa-tion and handy tips to help survive the Spanish heatface in the best way possible especially during thecurrent 'heat wave'.

Although it is always hot duringthe Spanish Summer the 'heatwave' means a situation ofintense heat, often very humid, which covers a wide geographicarea and stays for several con-secutive days.

The Councillor for Health,Veronica Lopez, recalled thatwhile Altea is at normal level ofalert for high temperatures,"always take precautionsagainst the heat, especially with the little ones (under 5years ) and seniors (65 and older). "

Please take your time to read the great informationprovided by Altea Town Hall.

Take plenty of fluids, especially if you're doing physicalexercise.

Be aware that alcohol and caffeine increases fluid loss,so beware to enjoy in moderation. It is also not recom-mended, to drink cold or sugary liquids excessively.

Ensure you provide your body with sufficient mineralsthrough your drinks, to replace what is lost with sweat.Sports drinks can be very appropriate (non fizzy) . If youtake this kind of drink or salty foods and which it mayrestrict your salt, so if you have salt deficiency issuesconsult your doctor before consumption.

Eat small amounts of food frequently it is recommended

Protection for sunlight, is impor-tant at all times and not onlyduring the hours of sun bathing, always apply sun protection offactor 15 or more, and apply thecream on exposed areas 30minutes before you leave home, and ensure you head is suffi-ciently protected.

Avoid unnecessary physicalexercise, especially during hightemperatures, if you are exer-cising begin exercising slowly

and increase the intensity gradually. If you are tired, dizzy, confused or think you may faint, stop immediatelyand rest in a cool and shady place. Use air conditioning, when available. Plan activities in the mornings or in theevenings when temperatures are not as high.

Be aware that children and the elderly from the age of 65begin do not always have the ability to respond tochanges in temperature and may have an altered theperception. Always be mindful and check how they areand their fluid intake.

Do not ever leave the children, elderly people or pets ina parked car during periods of intense heat, take intoaccount areas that may be cool can usually change veryquickly.

The Government has also recommended special cautionfor very obese people, people who work close to sourcesof heat (such as chefs) and people who are unwell and/oron medication.

JUDGE ORDERS CLOSURE OFPOPULAR PUB IN BENIDORM

In a shattering ruling the general noiseof the pub was compared to that of ‘amotorway’ ‘Questions raised overwhether Police Inspector’s statementcrossed the line of ‘false testimony’.

The judge emphasized the fact that thebusiness had been operating for fouryears without an opening license.

One expert submit-ted evidence onnoise levels whichconcluded that TikiBeach far exceed-ed the noise levelspermitted by law.

Inside neighbour-ing apartments thenoise levels fromTiki Beach reached95 decibels, whichshe explained, thelaw warns that noise levels over 90 deci-bels “may cause permanent damge toyour hearing”. It was a similarly bleak outlook outside, asshe explained to the judge, there is evi-dence that the windows and doors of theestablishment were kept open, thereforemaking the fact that Tiki Beach haspassed inspections relating to sound-proofing irrelevant. The expert comparedthe noise levels imposed upon the neigh-bors to that of ‘a motorway’.

After hearing the testimonies and review-ing the evidence provided against TikiBeach, the Court accepted that the pubhad caused ‘deep inconveniences’

towards its neighbours. The Court alsoemphasized the fact that the business hadbeen running its operations for more than4 years without an opening license andwithout the necessary permissions to hostlive music.

Moreover, the Court has officially ques-tioned the description of ‘cafeteria’ –which is how the business is officially

described – andemphasised thefailure of theAutonomous Policein respect of theirappraisal of thebusiness descrip-tion.

The sentence alsomakes clear themisgivings of thecourt over the dec-larations of three

officers of the local police. With particularfocus on one of the officers – who holdsthe post of inspector - of whose testimonywas so vague and contradictory that hemay be committing a crime of perjury.“The statements are so striking that in ouropinion, the issue deserves a criminalinvestigation to see if the crime described(perjury) has been committed”. The judgesaid in his summary.

Ultimately, the ruling decision leaves nodoubt about the relationship between thepub’s exploitation of its location, with loudmusic and the systematic violation of reg-ulations making a local coexistence withits neighbours impossible.

Cooking time: 15 minutes

Difficulty rating: Easy

This grilled swordfish recipe is one of thebest I have ever tasted. Swordfish is likethe steak of the fish world. It is a greatmeaty fish to begin with, but the cuminspice wet rub I made infused it with somuch more flavor and ensured its ten-derness

Ingredients

Number of servings: 4

• 4 200g Swordfish Steaks• 1 tablespoon of olive oil• 8 cloves of garlic, minced• 2 limes juice and zest• 1 teaspoon of sweet smoked paprika• 2 teaspoon of cumin • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper

Method

• In a food processor, blend the rub ingredientsfor about three minutes oruntil well-blended forminga thick wet rub.

• Pat Swordfish steaks dryand apply the spice rubgenerously to both sides.

• Place fish in a squaredish and pour any extraspice rub mixture over it.Cover and refrigerate forthree hours.

• When ready, preheat gas grill to high.

• Grill fish steaks on high heat for five tosix minutes on each side (a total of 10-12 minutes), flipping only once. You mayneed to adjust grill time depending onthickness/height of swordfish steaks (10minutes per 4 cm of thickness is recom-mended).

Tips:

• I actually ended up tossing somearugula, tomatoes and green fava beanswith a little lemon juice and olive oil. I likethe peppery taste of arugula next to fish.Don’t forget to squeeze a little lime orlemon juice on the swordfish as you takeit off the grill.

• Fact, a serving of swordfish provides36% of vitamin B12 of what your bodyneeds in one day. Not to mention howhigh swordfish ranks when it comes tosupplying phosphorus for your bonehealth.

Pizzeria Napoles Avinguda de Madrid 26 | Edificio Torre

Principado, Benidorm“Brilliant Service”

Reviewed 1 July 2015Just been on a hen do and the grooms stag do told us aboutthis amazing place. Although it is very hard to find as it's downa alley and google says it's number 26 and the beach frontbuilding had numbers but this is behind the front it's justbehind the bars etc. Word of advise when you want to find itwalk Into the beach front turn left and by bikini beach bar youwill see a small sign for it. The food was huge portions and it'sgot one lady running it all and then the kitchen staff but it's allamazing she gives amazing service!

“Off The Beaten Track”Reviewed 30 June 2015We went looking for this restaurant after reading the reviewsbit of a ballbreaker to find but if you pass the bikini beach bartheir is a sign for its whereabouts. Was empty when we arrived but we're greeted by a friendlywaitress.Shared a antipasto with free bread and garlic butter. The antipasto was one of the best we'd ever had.For mains I was recommended the seafood pasta which wasbeautiful and brimming with seafood the other half had a hamand chicken pizza which she didn't like but I tried some and itwas lovely. We were to full for dessert but not for the 2 free lemoncellaliqueur. The bill was €48 with a bottle of rose wine not bad at all.If this was on the beachfront you wouldn't get a seat here soit's worth seeking

“Absolute gem of a restaurant - madewelcome is an understatement!”

Reviewed 25 June 2015We stumbled across this absolute gem by mistake - thankfully! We were in the new town and were struggling to find anywherewhich wasn't standard British pub fare. Just as we were about to give up, my partner spotted a signsaying "pizzeria" pointing down a bleak looking side street, with seemingly nothing open, however seeing as our optionswere limited we thought we'd have a look.We passed some decent little bars and then out of nowherewe found the pizzeria. We were welcomed by a beaming female (owner) who sat usdown. She was a gem right the way through to us leaving. Shewas funny, helpful and couldn't do enough for us.The food was superb. Better than anywhere we had eaten (weate mostly in the old town). The beer, was cold - again some-thing which we struggled to find at the many bars we visited.

El PositSantisimo Cristo, 2, Calpe

“Worth a visit”Reviewed 28 June 2015I had been long awaiting a visit to here and finally achieved mymeal in El Posit. We sat outside on the terrace and had a lovelymeal from menu del dia. I would say it was OK but not my mostfavourite and as someone else has mentioned, not a quickmeal but a good one.I would repeat the experience again in future.

“Don't miss a trip to this fantasticrestaurant”

Reviewed 26 June 2015We have visited several times over several years and eachtime have a beautiful meal. Faultless. Certainly a trip to Calpewithout a visit would be a loss. You should book to avoid disap-pointment.

“It's worth the wait”Reviewed 25 June 2015Take the time & visit this lovely restaurant, hidden behind aunassuming frontage The dinning area is overlooking a small gathering lace for thelocals so you can watch & listen to them enjoying the eveningsun. But the best bit. Is the food,, it takes a while but is so worth thewait,, fab fooood & lots of it the lady serving is also a greatasset. Try either menu you will not be disappointed

“Excellent”Reviewed 15 June 2015This our favourite restaurant in Calpe. The quality of the food isexcellent. The chips are home made and the vegetables arefreshly prepared. This husband and wife team run their restau-rant single handedly and take pride in the quality of their food. Can't wait to go there again. I'm working my way through themenu.

“Amazing Resturant”Reviewed 24 May 2015We failed to find this Restaurant on our first evening but it wasworth the wait. Don't expect rushed service, do expect qualityfood, attentive service and large portions at a favourable cost.Little gem someone has already mentioned. Tucked away on aback street in a typically authentic Casa.

Dea RestauranteCalle Joaquin Rodrigo 3, El Albir

“Quiet and Relaxed”Reviewed 12 June 2015We chose Dea based on other reviews on TP and we're notdisappointed. It was very quiet the night we chose, Wednesday, and we were the only diners initially. The service was efficientand friendly. I had an excellent starter of Grilled Prawns whichwere spicy and served very elegantly, followed by the babypork ribs I'd seen recommended in a previous review. Allwashed down with a lovely Rioja. Big portions!

“Nice family dinner!”Reviewed 7 June 2015Nice restaurant just a few Stepa away from the main road.Menu of the day had a few different starters and main coursesto choose from. Food and service was good! Our family of fivepaid just over fifty euros desserts and drinks included.

“Return Visit & Not Dissapointed”Reviewed 5 June 2015Ate here November last year. We thought the food was verygood. Our return visit last week confirmed we were right, a littlehidden gem!! The Greek salad was better than any we haveeaten in Greece, followed by rack of ribs which we asked to beserved without the sauce but seasoned with spices (wonderful). My chocolate brownie was perfect, crispy on the outside chewycentre. Did miss the chocolate & banana cake though!!!Congratulations on the birth of your son.

“A must if you're in Albir!”Reviewed 4 May 2015Every time we're in albir we go out our way to visit Dea. Brilliantfood. Calm peaceful ambience. Great service and overallalways a great experience.

“Fantastic food and service”Reviewed 23 April 2015We love the food and outstanding service such a relaxedatmosphere.......a must visit again and again. Turn off of themain road in albir and you are in for a treat.

“Superb”Reviewed 22 April 2015An absolutely fabulous experience. The menu selection coversall tastes and the service is wonderful. Adrian (the owner) issuch a peaceful, calm,, person that immediately you feelrelaxed and ready to enjoy your meal. The food is exquisite andthe wine is wonderful! Menu of the day is extremely good valuefor money. I have told everyone in my Spanish class about thisso expect a rush of customers!

The Latest BUZZ from the Motoring World

New Renault Talisman RevealedWill Be Sold In Europe But Not The UK

Renault has revealed for the replacement for its Lagunaahead of its official unveiling at the 2015 FrankfurtMotor Show.

However, the French carmaker hasinsisted that the Talisman won’t besold in the UK.

In a statement, Renault said the Talisman would go onsale in Europe later in the year, but “there is no currentplan for Talisman to be sold in the United Kingdom orIreland.”

Renault axed the Laguna alongside a number of otherunprofitable models early in 2012.

The large family car market, which also features the FordMondeo and Vauxhall Insignia, has been waning inrecent years – with crossovers and SUVs taking up theslack in sales.

The NameRenault has decided to move on from a name synony-mous with touring cars, safety and, er, unreliability withits Laguna-replacement.

We’ll let the boys in France explain: “Renault selectsnames for its models that symbolise their design and per-sonality across all markets where they are sold. True tothis tradition, the Talisman has been given a charismatic

name that conjures up notions of both protec-tion and power. At the same time, Talisman isan easy word to pronounce and is understoodthe world over.”

Er… essentially ‘Talisman’ sounds morerobust than ‘Laguna’. And, as Renault alreadysales a model in China with the same name,it’s a badge that works internationally.

What powers the RenaultTalisman?Buyers of the Renault Talisman will get a choice of twopetrol and three diesel engines. In a bid to move upmar-ket, the TCe petrol engines will be available exclusivelywith automatic gearboxes and with power outputs of 150

and 200hp.The diesel units are likely to be the bigger sellers, avail-able with 110 and 130hp, as well as the same twin-tur-bocharged 160 unit as the Espace. The lower-powereddiesel emits just 95g/km CO2 when paired with the man-ual gearbox.

What else do I need to know about the RenaultTalisman?Renault has muttered a lot of stuff about ‘fluidity’ and‘tucked in’ lines, but all we know is the Talisman lookspretty damn good. The front-end is similar to that of the

new Megane, while the rearcould be from amuch more pre-mium manufac-turer.

There’s a bigboot, whilehigh-end mod-els will get an8.7-inch info-tainment dis-play. There’s no

denying the Talisman sounds much more premium thanits predecessor – with talk of massaging seats, BOSEspeakers and electronic damper control.

But is it enough to convince buyers? If Renault decidedto sell the Talisman in the UK, would you buy it?

GASTRO- OESOPHAGEALREFLUX DISEASE

Most people suffer occasion-ally with heartburn or indiges-tion normally as a result ofover indulging in rich fatty orspicy foods especially whenwashed down with alcohol!

However it is also common forpeople to have these unpleasant symptoms on a reg-ular basis without any obviousculprit!

In these cases the person maybe suffering from gastro-oesophageal reflux disease other-wise known as GORD. GORDoccurs when acid travels from thestomach back up the oesophagus(food pipe). This happens becausethe sphincter (valve) between thetwo is not closing properly.

Symptoms vary but include:

- A burning feeling coming from theabdomen to the throat. This is themain symptom known as heartburneven though it is nothing to so withthe heart!

- Pain in the chest and top part ofthe abdomen- Nausea- Bloating- Burping- Taste of acid in the mouth

Other, more rare symptoms are:

- A night cough and/or wheezing- Hoarseness- Gum problems- Bad breath- A sensation of a lump in the throat- A sore throat- Severe chest pain (which shouldbe treated as an emergency untilproved otherwise)

Some people are more likely to

develop GORD including those whoare overweight, pregnant, smoke, have diabetes or a hiatus hernia. Acommon stomach infection thataffects two thirds of the world’s pop-ulation called Helicobacter Pylori canalso produce some of the abovesymptoms. Symptoms that occuroccasionally and that are mild can betreated with antacids but some suf-ferers will need treatment to reducethe amount of acid being producedby the stomach.

If you suffer regularly with heartburnor other symptoms listed above, seeyour family Doctor. Diagnosis is oftensimple and no tests are necessary. Ifthere is any doubt your Doctor mayarrange blood tests or other investi-gations.

BACK TOBACK

Lewis Hamilton seized back control ofthe British Grand Prix after being over-taken on the first corner to win his fifthrace of the season today and strengthenhis Formula One title defense.

A Mercedes one-two was just as forecast -with Nico Rosberg completing a ninth con-secutive double podium for them - but athrilling rain-affected race was a riposte tosome of the gloomy paddock talk about thepredictability of the sport.

"It was exciting for me, the start made itexciting and the English weather helped,"Hamilton said. "It's an indication for us not tothrow our toys out of the pram and sayeverything is wrong."Hamilton is the first back-to-back Silverstone

winner since David Coulthard 15 years ago, thrilling the 140,000-strong home crowd atthe central England circuit."Great job guys," Hamilton said over theteam radio. "I am so happy with that. Thankyou to all the fans for coming out."

Scattered showers at the Silverstone circuitadded to the drama late on and Hamilton'sswitch to intermediary tires came with a well-timed pit stop which allowed him to beatRosberg by almost 11 seconds.

Hamilton extended his lead to 17 points overRosberg in the championship, whileSebastian Vettel is back in third - just as hewas here after the Ferrari driver fought hisway up to third.
