“IF GOD WILLS IT”

REV. KETIH MICHAEL JOHN CARROLL

BORN: June 6th 1981

ORDAINED A PRIEST: June 6th 2009

INSTALLED PASTOR: June 4th, 2014

“HAPPILY CELEBRATING 11 YEARS AS A PRIEST”

As we enter the month of June I prepare to celebrate another birthday and another year of

priesthood. There are some days, like any vocation, being a pastor is not easy, but at the same

time it is filled with so many blessings. I LOVE BEING A PRIEST! The past couple months have

been extremely difficult as we found parts of our ministries limited. Yet, as I said time and time

again, in my homilies and reflections this was a time of grace. Even though I was limited in hearing

confessions and not able to visit individuals, what brought me comfort was the ability to spend

more time with the Lord.

I must admit, even though I truly missed hearing confessions, this time has really helped me

focus. For the last several years there has been so much going on behind the scenes between

being a part of a school study which then led into our school merger and making needed capital

improvements around the parish. A lot of time was spent in meetings! Also, like many of you I

struggled with the scandal in the Church, while also grieving the loss of my mother. All of this took

a toll on me. Despite feeling at times overwhelmed I persevered, but will admit was not myself. I

put the needs of the parish, the needs of others, before my own emotion, physical, and spiritual

health. This time of grace provided to all of us was truly a blessing for me as I feel my spiritual bat-

teries recharged and ready to go!

The only time I really like sharing things personally about myself is if I feel it can help some-

one else! I am truly flawed, but at the same time feel that God has blessed me because of my

struggles. In my life, I had to overcome hearing people say I wasn’t good enough, but each time I

heard it I became more determined to succeed. There were days in seminary I would never have

thought I would have made it, but I did! In my formation I always said, “if God wills it,” and He did!

Why? Sometimes I ask myself that very same question. Yes, I struggled, but with the help of God

and a lot of hard work on my part, together we succeeded! When I see the degrees on my wall, I

can truly look up and say, God we made it!

How does one know they are following the will of God? The answer is simply, the path is

where we find the cross. Our Lord said, “anyone who wishes to follow Me, must deny himself, take

up his cross, then follow me..” Then with each fall, we find the strength to stand right back up. Our

Lord will show us signs along the way, and every once in a while will humble us. My invitation as a

pastor is this, trust the Holy Spirit! Allow the Holy Spirit to be in the drivers seat. When we allow

the Spirit to be in the drivers seat, the end result will this...being in the place we were meant to be!

Thursday June 4th will mark the 6th anni-

versary of Father Carroll’s installation as pas-

tor. In those six years coming together as a

parish a lot has been accomplished.

These are just some of the highlights of what

has been accomplished working together…

• Extensive work on the outside of the Church

to improve drainage and accessibility.

• Interior renewal of the Church was accom-

plished...new flooring, refurbished pews,

new kneelers, restructured confessional,

and a new cooling/heating system.

• Consolidation of Saint Patrick School and

Saint Joseph School in Dallastown to form

Holy Trinity Catholic School.

As he mentioned during the pandemic “we are

all in this together,” moving forward may we re-

member together we can! Turn to the Lord in

prayer and trust the promptings of the Holy

Spirit. If we do, great things will continue to fall

into place!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR THOUGHTS

AND PRAYERS!

Our Beloved Patricia Ann DeVivo was born into

Eternal Life the night of the Solemnity of the

Annunciation of the Lord March 25, 2020. Jesus

came to take her home with Him, on the feast

which celebrates "God is with Us." A feast day

that represents all that she was faithful to and

dedicated her life to living. Due to the

coronavirus initial services were held in private.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick

Church on Saturday July 25, 2020 at 1:30 pm,

followed by a celebration of her life in Brenner

Hall after Mass. Please join us if your are able.

Patricia left a message for us all: “It is with

great Wonder and Awe that I thank and

praise Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy

Spirit, Our Loving Blessed Mother, and all

the Holy Angels and Saints for you… You

are the gift I have to give to the Father.”

My Family and I greatly appreciate the Outreach, Prayers, and Mass Offerings for Patricia we have

received, bringing us much comfort and peace.

We miss her very much, however, Fr. Carroll’s words posted on Facebook comfort us in

remembering her: “Patricia lived each day on the Most Holy Eucharist. That was her strength!

May we strive to follow the example she lived...a life of faith, centered on Jesus!

Thank you, Blessings and prayers,

Deacon Michael and Family

THE FEAST OF CORPUS CHRISTI

WEEKEND OF JUNE 13TH/14TH

On the weekend of June 13th and 14th we will celebrate the feast of Cor-

pus Christi. As a testament to our faith following the 7 pm outdoor Mass

we will have outdoor adoration until 9 pm. Holy Communion will be

distributed immediately following Mass. Once communion has been

distributed we will bring the Blessed Sacrament out to be adored under-

neath the green canopy.

In the event of rain the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the win-

dow of the sacristy for individuals to adore from their vehicles. On this

important feast dedicated to our Lord’s Body and Blood, I invite you to

stay and give the Lord some of your time to thank Him for the gifts nd

blessings He has given us!

STAY CONNETED TO THE FAITH!

Even though we are practicing social distancing, God is never distant from us. He is right

there beside us. Take this opportunity to grow in your knowledge of the faith while working

to grow our relationship with the Lord.

1) Make it a point to schedule an apportionment with God. Spend some time each day in

prayer.

2) Log into FORMED www.stpatrickyork.org/formed and explore the many different pro-

grams there are available to learn about our Catholic Faith.

3) If you choose not to attend Mass, tune into EWTN or watch our Mass live or later in the

day on our Parish Facebook or Website. It is important that we stay connected with our

parish family.

4) Reach out to fellow parishioners, and perhaps form an online bible study.

These are just some of many ways that are out there to grow in our faith!

PRAYING FOR ALL EMPLOYEES

AND THE UNEMPLOYED

Throughout the month of June we

kindly ask that you remember all those work-

ing, especially in challenging and stressful

situations. Please also pray for those who are

unemployed at this time that they may find

work to help provide for the needs of their

families.

It is important that we never forget

how important it is to turn to the Lord, espe-

As Catholic’s it is important for us to discover or in some cases rediscover the power of

prayer. Pray is simply a conversation with God. Structured prayer such as the liturgy

of the hours and the rosary help us mediate and enter into prayer as we reflect on par-

ticular stories of God’s love. There are children’s resources available, all we have to do

is look around! Take some time to sit still in the presence of God!

Once again, on behalf of the Parish Finance Council, we would like

to thank you for your continued support of our parish during this unprece-

dented time! We recognize that for some of you this time has been very

stressful. Despite the challenges, you still respond generously, and we

want you to know how much we appreciate it. For those who might find

themselves unemployed during this time, we want to assure you of our

prayers!

We as a parish finance council need to continue to encourage and

invite you to give to support the ministry and the upkeep of the parish.

Your generous offering helps with the following…

It goes to paying all our utilities (Brenner Hall, Church, Parish Of-

fice, Rectory, Portion of the School, and Parking Lot lights).

It goes to pay our set assessments (Hospital Chaplain, Catholic

School subsidies)

It goes to pay the salary and benefits of the clergy, religious and

staff of the parish.

It goes to cover any additional unexpected major expenses we

may incur over the year.

As noted, to operate our parish we need $14,400 weekly to meet our

budget.

If you can give, even if it is much less, please do. Every gift, no matter

how big or small, truly helps! Having said that, if you are not in a position

to give at the moment we solicit you to offer up one of the most precious

gifts you can give, and that is the gift of your prayers! Yes, there is great

power in prayer. We promise you our prayers and all we ask is for yours.

We are all in this together and together we will make it through.

Page 11: WELCOME TO SAINT PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH …...2020/06/06  · Saint Patrick Catholic Church has made a big difference in the 200 block of South Beaver Street. Over the past six years

Our parish is very unique! For a city parish we are truly blessed to

have a lot of property and parking. However, many of the buildings are older

and costly to maintain. Our properties are a blessing, but at the same time

present us with a challenge.

As pastor, I want to give each of you a complete picture of what we own

and have to maintain. Many people sitting in the pews, even myself having

grown up in York County know the rich history of our parish and its proper-

ty. Yet there may be others who have moved into the parish that might not.

Saint Patrick Catholic Church has made a big difference in the 200 block of

South Beaver Street.

Over the past six years we have undertaken a lot to make necessary re-

pairs inside and outside of the Church. There is still a lot of things that need

to be done, but have been delayed because of funding or other things that

have come up. Funds are still coming in from our Capital Campaign. We

still have a balance of around $50,000 with Kinsley Construction we hope to

pay off by the end of this calendar year.

It is my hope by showing an outline and listing of the properties it helps

one understand the complexity of our parish operations. Our parish has sev-

eral rental units. We pay subsidies to Holy Trinity Catholic School and York

Catholic. It takes a lot to maintain and operate our parish!

Saint Patrick Church is truly a great parish with an economic diverse

congregation that give so generously of their talent, time, and treasure!

Thank you for all that you do to support our parish and mission. We cannot

do it without you!

The Parish of Saint Patrick Church has a lot of property to maintain.

Our purpose is to share with you some of the continued challenges we face

moving forward. Much needed improvements were made. As we walk

through the properties it is apparent more work needs to be done and im-

portant decisions will need to be made in the very near future.

Our rental properties have potential to bring in needed revenue, if we

transition them into treating them as a business. Work would need to be

done (updated cooling/heating systems, new windows, repointing, etc.) It

would take a major investment on our part. At the same time we must rec-

ognize they also present a liability.

We also have other updates to other campus buildings that will need

to be addressed. As it has been said before we are blessed because we have

property, but at the same time challenged because of it, especially since

most of our buildings are over 100 years old. There is certainly a lot to be

done and to consider. We will get there. In the meantime, please continue

to be generous and please continue to pray for the guidance and wisdom of

the Holy Spirit!

Page 14: WELCOME TO SAINT PATRICK CATHOLIC CHURCH …...2020/06/06  · Saint Patrick Catholic Church has made a big difference in the 200 block of South Beaver Street. Over the past six years

As you can see have a lot of property to maintain. We also have subsides that we

pay in support Catholic Education. Our subsidy to our own Holy Trinity Catholic

School is around $161,000 and $128,000 to York Catholic High School. Part of the in-

come goes to pay our dedicated parish staffs benefits and salaries. Like your homes we

have utilities to pay.

This pandemic has presented all of us with a lot of challenges. We have done our

best to cut back on our utilities since March. Our goal right now is to present ways you

can give. If you can give more, great! We need your support. If you cannot give as

much, that’s ok! Every little bit helps! Finally, if you are not in a position to give, we

understand! This is a tough time for all of us.. All we ask from you right now is your

prayers!

Moving forward I want you to think of ways you can offer the gift of your talent,

time, and treasure to the parish! We need your help! It’s true, money is not everything,!

Yes, we need funds, but it is not everything. Your gifts of talent , time, and treasure in

needed because we can ONLY carry out the mission of the Church with your support!

Thank you for your generosity and prayers.

HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC SCHOOL

WHAT AN INNAGURAL YEAR!!!

This year was the first year for Holy Trinity Catholic School. Our school was

formed out of the consolidation of Saint Joseph School in Dallastown and Saint Patrick

School. It was a great year filled with so much energy. The year opened with a special

Mass celebrated by Bishop Gainer and a ribbon cutting.

One walking through the halls could feel the energy and spirit. All of our special

events were well attended. Making this transition was challenging but we had two great

leaders in Mrs. Kathleen Smith and Mrs. Peggy Snyder to help make it happen. They were

assisted by the faculty, families, staff, members of the PTO, and the Board of Education.

Before our last day in March we had a successful Gala where we raised significant

funds for our school. Thank you to everyone who supported our school! We invite every

member of our parishes to consider supporting Holy Trinity Catholic School. Please con-

sider offering your time, talent, and treasure to help make a difference in our children’s

lives.

Speaking of making a difference in our children’s lives we want to extend a big pub-

lic thank you to all our teachers! They did an awesome job transitioning from the class-

room to online learning in relatively short order. While there is always room to grow, our

Catholic School teachers succeeded where many of our local school districts struggled!

Thank you to our awesome faculty and staff for their effort and hard work!

What makes Holy Trinity Catholic School so great? Holy Trinity Catholic School

partners with families to provide an exceptional educational experience that supports stu-

dents on their Christ- Centered Journey. We promote academic excellence and lifelong

service to others in an environment formed by the teachings of Jesus Christ. We are a

family!

THESE ARE THE INDIVIDUALS THAT MAKE HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC

SCHOOL GREAT! WE CAN NEVER THANK THEM ENOUGH FOR ALL

THAT THEY DO FOR OUR CHILDREN! MAY WE SHOW OUR APPRECIA-

TION TO OUR AWESOME FACULTY AND STAFF OF HOLY TRINITY CATHO-

LIC SCHOOL BY REMEMBERING EACH OF THEM IN OUR DAILY PRAY-

ERS! THANK YOU FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR CHILDREN’S

LIVES! PLEASE KNOW HOW MUCH YOU ARE APPRECIATED!!!

In addition to our faculty, families, staff, students, and volunteers, our parish school is sup-

ported by both the parishes of Saint Joseph in Dallastown and Saint Patrick represented by

their respective pastors. Last year at this time both men made the painful decision to con-

solidate the respective schools in the best interest of providing Catholic Education to our

students. The fruits of this transition was evident throughout the year.

While the day to day operation is entrusted to the principals, their leadership was seen

through their regular presence in the building and at school functions. Many thanks to the

families and pastors of both Saint Joseph and Saint Patrick for their continued support!!!

On Sunday June 14th we will recall Flag Day. As we gaze upon our

American Flag may we remember all those who have died in service

to our communities and nation, and those who are currently serv-

ing. Many people have sacrificed a lot to protect many of the free-

doms we enjoy today.

May we also remember in our prayers our dedicated doctors, nurs-

es, first responders, and all the essential service employees who are

are working hard to provide our basic needs. Please keep praying

for all those who are sick and those who have died.

In addition, Deacon Michael DeVivo will be celebrating

his 17th Anniversary to the Diaconate on this Flag Day

June 14th. We thank Deacon Michael for his service and

dedication and caring for our parish family. Please keep

Deacon Michael in your prayers as well.
