and families. This is $250,000 more than last year! In this
great Jubilee Year of Mercy, let’s continue to utilize the
Archbishop’s Annual Appeal as a way to open the doors of
the Church to one another and our neighbors.
In the upcoming months, please look for bulletin
updates like this one or visit the Archdiocesan website,
Facebook, or Twitter pages for updates on projects funded
by the Appeal and the progress of the 2016 Appeal.

“The commanding position of St. Gabriel Church and
Rectory as one approaches Windsor Center adds grace and
dignity to the whole town in keeping with its historic past”.
Hartford Courant, May 16, 1916
Thank You and Congratulations to Lisa Lape!
After serving as our parish secretary and religious education secretary for 15 years, Mrs. Lisa Lape will be transitioning over to St. Gabriel School where she has accepted the position of Administrative Assistant to the Principal, Mrs. Patricia Martin. We are grateful for Lisa's dedicated service to the parish and pastors, and we wish her well in this new endeavor. Her lively spirit and personality will add positively to the front office at the school; I am confident that her skills will be of valued assistance to the principal, staff and families. She will begin her new duties on Monday, January 25th.
In all of our names, I express gratitude to Lisa for her service to the rectory office; I am grateful for willingness to assume this new position and wish her well. Fr. Robert B. Vargo
Please help us celebrate 100 years!
On Sunday, February 7th our parish will host a special
breakfast in celebration of our 100th Anniversary - we are
looking for homemade baked goods such as: Sweet Breads,
Scones, Turnovers, Biscuits, Muffins, and Coffee Cakes -
to name only a few.
Please call the Parish Rectory Office or email -
stgabriel.ministry@yahoo.com to let us know you can help.
Saint Gabriel Memorial Fund It is customary and fitting to remember loved
ones who have died with memorial donations to a
favorite cause or charity. In this way, the memory
of the deceased is honored and a good work, either civic or
religious, is perpetuated. There are numerous charities that
have been traditionally designated for such purpose.
We are grateful to the following who have donated to the
St. Gabriel Memorial Fund in the loving memory of:
May Checho
Lesley & Mark Fernandes The Erickson Family

The Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy
In Misericordiae Vultus, Pope Francis declared an
Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy to begin
December 8, 2015 and to conclude November 20, 2016.
In this document the Pope stated, “At times we are called
to gaze even more attentively on mercy so that we may
become a more effective sign of the Father’s action in our
lives.”
In accord with this desire of the Holy Father, a 6 session
program of study and prayer of Jesus’ parables concerning
mercy will be offered during the upcoming season of Lent.
Discussion on: The Unmerciful Servant, The Good
Samaritan and The Prodigal Son. This program will begin
on February 10th (Ash Wednesday) and continue for the
next 5 successive Wednesdays. All sessions will be held
from 10:30 am to 11:30 am in Fr. Doherty Hall at St.
Joseph Church. Anyone wishing to attend should contact
either St. Gabriel (860-688-4905) or St. Joseph Rectory
(860-688-9566) by Wednesday February 3rd. Others
who are interested, but are unable to attend, should contact

On Thursday, January 14th, all of the students of
St. Gabriel School gathered to work on a very special community project. In support of ‘Project
Linus’, students made blankets for the Hartford chapter to distribute to local hospitals, shelters and social service
agencies. Parent volunteers helped to prep the blankets.
Students worked together in groups of four, and in just over one hour completed 100 blankets. The Pre-K students
helped by folding each completed blanket so it could be bagged and sent to the local chapter for distribution.
