Priesthood Sunday & Surveys
This weekend we are celebrating “Priesthood Sunday” a special day set aside to honor priesthood in the United States. It is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church as a central one. This nationwide event is coordinated and sponsored by the US Council of Serra International. We invite you to pray for our priests:
Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priests. Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments.
Help our priests to be strong in their vocation. Set their souls on fire with love for your people.
Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom.
Give them the words they need to spread the Gospel. Allow them to experience joy in their ministry.
Help them to become instruments of your divine grace. We ask this through Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns as our Eternal Priest.
Amen.
We are extremely grateful to everyone who has already taken the time to fill out our pastorate survey! This is the last weekend that the electronic survey will be available on our website (www.cassmiamicatholic.org). The results
of the survey will be used to determine the direction of our pastorate as we continue to grow and thrive. You’ll notice, the questions are about all aspects of parish life and our church. Este fin de semana celebramos el "Domingo del Sacerdocio", un día especial reservado para honrar el sacerdocio en los Estados Unidos. Es un día para reflexionar y afirmar el papel del sacerdocio en la vida de la Iglesia como central. Este evento a nivel nacional está coordinado y patrocinado por el Consejo de Estados Unidos de Serra Internacional. Les invitamos a rezar por nuestros sacerdotes:
Dios bondadoso y amoroso, te agradecemos el don de nuestros sacerdotes. A través de ellos, experimentamos tu presencia en los sacramentos.
Ayuda a nuestros sacerdotes a ser fuertes en su vocación. Haz que sus almas ardan de amor por tu pueblo.
Concédeles la sabiduría, la comprensión y la fuerza que necesitan para seguir las huellas de Jesús. Inspíralos con la visión de tu Reino.

For our state project we are collecting baby items for the St. Elizabeth Coleman Adoption Center: baby clothes, diapers, layette items, baby bottles, etc.
There will also be the election of officers for 2022-2023.Installation of officers will be October 10th.
Don’t forget: the trip to St. John’s has been postponed to next May.
There will be a Rosary for the Unborn at the St. Charles Cemetery on Sunday, October 3 at 1:00 pm.

Dear Apologist, If Adam and Eve were created in communion with God and did not have fallen natures, how could the devil tempt them?
The Catholic faith, informed by sacred Scripture, teaches that human nature itself was warped by the disobedience of Adam and Eve. Among the effects of the Fall is the onset of unreasonable desires which bend us toward sin, called “concupiscence”. But as you point out, Adam and Eve did not originally have this. So how could they have been tempted in the first place?
The answer is that their temptation couldn’t be something which plays on our unreasonable passions, but upon something even a perfectly reasonable creature would want. In this case It was the desire for self-determination. It is in the nature of rational creatures to want to make choices and exercise freedom. The devil therefore tempted Adam and Eve with the idea that God was a constraint on their freedom. That by using their freedom within the boundaries God had established, they were hobbling their own development as rational creatures. Thus, he convinced them to refuse to let God be the lord of their lives. The Catechism states: “The tree symbolically evokes the insurmountable limits that man, being a creature, must freely recognize and respect with trust. Man, tempted by the devil, let his trust in his Creator die in his heart and, abusing his freedom, disobeyed God's command.” [CCC 396-397]
The peculiar thing about this temptation is that there is no way to logically prove that true freedom means submission to God. It comes down to an exercise of the will for or against Him. That is why Adam and Eve were vulnerable to this sin despite not being fallen. What’s more, this is still the fundamental choice we face today. Do we trust that God knows best how to make us flourish? Or do we say to God, “I know what is best for me”?
