Block Party Needs Cookies/cupcakes are needed for the Block Party on Sun, Aug 23. We are expecting 200-300 persons and we need cookies for them. Confirmation Class Sign Up Confirmation classes are just around the corner. If you are a student in 7th grade or above, you are eligible to sign up to be a confirmed member of our church. Sign up sheets are located in the Gathering room, or the information table in First Place. We will have our first mandatory confirmation informational meeting for students AND parents on Aug 23, 9:45am @ First Place (in former Food Pantry). Classes will start Sun, Sept 13-Nov 1. Stained Glass Windows Completion Need: $61,000

We are looking for energetic, enthusiastic and dedicated Sunday school teachers for 4th and 5th graders this fall. Even if you aren't able to commit to teaching every Sunday, please let us know. First Kids Preschool Create-A-Book Fundraiser -

You have an opportunity to support First Kids Preschool and purchase the special children in your life a personalized book for $14.95 or a personalized holiday letter for $4.95. Donate School Supplies for Kyle School

If you want to donate school supplies (while they’re on sale) you may drop supplies off in the basket outside the church office or in First Place. Suggested supplies are: pointed Fiskars scissors, boxes of tissues, #2 pencils, 24 count crayons, glue sticks & bottles, pink erasers, cap erasers, plastic pencil boxes, regular rule spiral notebooks, and folders (w/2 pockets) with/without prongs. United Methdodist Women: General Meeting

The UMW will be opening its fall season of events with a General Meeting on Tues, Aug 25 @ 7pm at First Place. The speaker for the evening is Larry Butt, Area Director of Young Life of Miami and Shelby Counties. Young Life is a non- denominational Christian ministry that reaches out to children and adolescents and helps them to grow in their faith. The goal of this organization is to make a difference in the lives of young people by building meaningful relationships through volunteers, club meetings, camps, and having fun. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. We hope to see you there.

Troy Mayors’ Concert: Tonight For the 22nd year, the Dayton Philharmonic Concert Band and Festival Chorus will be presenting a program on Troy’s Square, at 7pm. “Lincoln and Liberty” is this year’s theme. The rain site is Hobart Arena.

"Intentional Teaching Community of Learners"

Thanks to a national foundation grant, a select number of early childhood education programs in the Dayton area have been selected to participate in the Intentional Teaching Community of Learners Program. This year long program allows selected preschool teachers and their administrators to meet with peers to learn how to use various data in integrated ways, from formal child assessments to

classroom self assessments to evaluate the whole child, provide effective intentional instruction and engage parents in preschool learning. For the second year, First Kids Christian Cooperative Preschool has been selected to participate in this exciting program. This year, Linda Godfrey, pre-kindergarten teacher, will attend the monthly classes with director, Bridget Haines. During these classes the preschool staff will learn how to use information from formal and informal assessments to plan for classroom and child needs and collaborate with other outstanding programs to share ideas. Staff will also receive one on one, on site coaching from an early childhood education professional mentor. First Kids Christian Preschool is very excited to be chosen to participate in this program for the second straight year.
