From the pastor… Corpus Christi Sunday – Literally means “the body of Christ”. The Real Presence describes the unique, true presence of Christ in the Eucharist under the species or appearances of bread and wine. The Church invites the faithful to deepen their faith in the real presence of Christ through adoration and communion at Mass. Hopefully, “absence makes the heart grow fonder” as a result of this pandemic. For centuries only the faithful received the Body of Christ in Holy Communion. The Councils of Trent and Vatican Council II agreed that no one calls into doubt in any way the doctrinal principles on the complete efficacy of Eucharistic Communion under the species of bread alone. The Second Vatican Council gave permission for the reception of Communion under both kinds on some occasions, because this clearer form of the sacra-mental sign offers a particular opportunity of deepening the un-derstanding of the mystery in which the faithful take part. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (2003) directs pas-tors to instruct the faithful that the Catholic Church teaches that Christ, whole and entire, and the true Sacrament, is received even under only one species, and consequently that as far as the effects are concerned, those who receive under only one species are not deprived of any of the grace that is necessary for salva-tion. “Unless you eat my body and drink my blood you shall not have life within you.”(Jn. 6:53) and “Do this in remembrance of me.” A red flag should go up when a Catholic refers to the Eucharist as bread or wine. After the consecration, a believing and educat-ed Catholic would refer to the Eucharist as the host, the Body and/or Blood of Christ and/or the Blessed Sacrament. One would especially question the formation of an extra ordinary minister of the Eucharist who, after the consecration, would ask “Do you wish to receive the bread or wine?” While surfing the internet – check out The Cathedral of Orvieto in Italy. There is a very special corporal on display in this beautiful Cathedral. Next Sunday is the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time - the Read-ings at all the Masses will be taken from the readings of the Day – Jeremiah 20:10-13, Romans 5:12-15, Matthew 10:26-30. HAPPY FATHERS DAY! Out of gratitude, we should remember our Dad in prayer, both living and deceased. May St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, lead and guide the Dads in our parish. Thank you for your love and selflessness. 1st Holy Communion – Congratulations to all those who re-ceived their First Holy Communion this Saturday. While, as a result of the pandemic, they had to be patient and wait, it’s wonderful for the children to receive the Eucharist during this weekend, when we celebrate Corpus Christi Sunday. Congratu-lations as well to the parents, our volunteer Faith Formation Teachers, as well as Mary Brown and Norma Echevarria. Confirmation – will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 24th at 6 p.m. The candidates will need to be at the practice, which will be scheduled by Mary Brown and Norma Echevarria in the Faith Formation Office. For further information, please refer to the Religious Education section of this bulletin or contact Mary or Norma in the Faith Formation Office. Faith Formation Classes – will be scheduled as usual for the school year of 2020-2021. If there is a major problem, then we will cross that bridge, when we get there. However, you should have your children registered, especially if they wish to receive the Sacraments of First Confession & Communion next spring, as well as Confirmation. May the peace of Christ be with you.
