Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Over the next two weeks we will

hear an extended passage from Mat-

thew’s Gospel in which Jesus rein-

terprets the law for his disciples. He

challenges his disciples to take it one

step further, to do more than just follow the letter of

the law. On this Presidents’ Day weekend, when we

honor those people whom we have trusted to guide our

country, let us consider how we can trust Jesus to

guide us in our daily life.

Introduction to the Liturgy of the Word

In the first reading, Sirach teaches us that we have the

ability to choose between right and wrong. Choosing

to trust God and to keep the commandments is the way

to salvation. Jesus extends the commandments when

speaking to his disciples, telling them that they must do

more. May the Holy Spirit, invoked by Paul in the sec-

ond reading, reveal God’s wisdom and guide us in our

behavior.

Introducción a la Liturgia de la Palabra

En la primera lectura Sirácide nos enseña que tenemos

la capacidad para escoger entre lo bueno y lo malo. En

la decisión de confiar en Dios y de guardar los

mandamientos se encuentra el camino de la salvación.

Jesús ampliá los mandamientos cuando le dice a sus

discípulos que deben hacer más. Pidamos la gracia de

que el Espíritu Santo, a quien Pablo invoca en la

segunda lectura, nos revele la sabiduria de Dios y guíe

nuestros comportamientos.

FAITH FORMATION CLASSES

Faith Formation Classes are held at the

school building located at 86-37 53rd Avenue,

on Sundays from 8:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.,

from September through May.

A new registration must be completed for all present stu-

dents as well as new students to attend our program. Parents

must bring the following documents when registering:

- Baptism Certificate

- Birth Certificate, if child is not baptized

- A Parish Transfer letter is required if child attended

another parish
