Message from the Principal Happy 2015! I hope that your Christmas was joyous and peaceful. The faculty, staff and I are all very excited about being with your children again as we begin this new year. And as we begin, I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of you, who make daily sacrifices in order to send your children to us. The value of the Catholic education that your children receive during their formative years at St. Pius X is im- measurable. As parents, take comfort in knowing that when your children face the truly daunting challenges of life, they will be well-armed with their faith and the knowledge that God’s unconditional love and mercy always surrounds them. Sunday, January 25th, is a very important day for our school and the continued success of our ministry. From 1:00-3:00 p.m. that day, we will hold an Open House for prospec- tive families. Rarely do I give a tour of our school to a visiting family without them run- ning into a current student or parent who they know. You and your children are our school’s greatest ambassadors, and we rely on you to help us spread the good word about our school community. Again this new year, we encourage you to invite your friends, family and co-workers to visit us on the 25th and see for themselves why St. Pius X School is such a special place for their children to learn and grow. Thank you in advance for your help and support! On behalf of Father Walsh, and our entire faculty and staff, I wish you and your family a very safe, happy and healthy New Year. Stay Informed Through School Alert

School Alert is the electronic system our school uses to contact

our families instantly through emails, texts or voicemail. We use

School Alert to inform you of weather delays and closures and

to share timely information we feel is important to you.

If you have not been receiving any School Alert messages from

us over the past several weeks, please contact our school office

(465-4539), and give us your email address so you can stay in-

formed. If your email or phone number changes, contact us so

we can be sure you receive our alerts. Thank you!

Public law states that each student receives a physical exam when entering a school district for the first time

and again in grades K,2,4, and 7th grades. Many physicals have still not been turned in. Please let us

know the date of an upcoming physical appointment. If the student has had a physical in the twelve months

prior to the commencement of the school year, those physicals are acceptable and just send a copy to the

health office. Please call the health office with any questions.

As flu season approaches, please review school policies regarding illness:

Absences

Please notify the health office if your child has contracted an infectious disease that may affect the health of

fellow classmates or faculty (ie.pink eye, strept, fifth’s disease, coxsackie virus, flu, impetigo, pneumonia).

Cough drops

Cough drops are not dispensed by the health office. Students may bring in their own supply of cough drops

and keep them in the classroom with a written note from a parent.

Illness During School Hours

Children who develop the following symptoms will be isolated from the rest of the students, and parents will

be notified to take their child home:

---Diarrhea, vomiting, sore throat with fever, persistent ear ache with fever, rash of unknown etiology, pink

eye

(conjunctivitis), temperature of 100 degrees or higher, impetigo, scabies, ringworm or head lice.

Sick Day Guidelines

To reduce the spread of infection and communicable disease, we ask that you keep your child home:

---with a fever over 100 degrees and until fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

---if experiencing constant cough or severe runny nose.

---for 24 hours after a vomiting or diarrhea episode

---for 24 hours after the start of antibiotics

---Until results of throat cultures are known.

Third grades students in Ms. McGuire’s technology class were so excited to Skype

about sharks with Dr. Mikki McComb-Kaboza of California using “Skype in the Class-

room.” Dr. McComb Kaboza is an expert on sharks on stingrays. 3E students found out

the answers to questions about sharks and many more, questions about the mysterious,

and often misunderstood, hammerhead shark. They learned so much about different

shark species and sting rays!

you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foun-

dation of the world: 35 ‘for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty

and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 ‘I was naked

and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you
