Patient Praise

The following quotations are external

commendations submitted by Medic

patients. Each week the Dispatch will

feature the kind words and gratitude

expressed by our community.

Medic employees touch so many lives

and our patients are truly appreciative

of the care we provide. Everyone at

Medic plays a role in providing an

excellent patient experience and it is

evident by the commendations that

are received. Keep up the excellent

work!

“I feel like I can call you by your first name as we were talking, actually, me talking, you

listening. Thank you for keeping me calm in a situation you knew made me very scared, upset

and crying. It was like talking with a good friend, you just knew what to say. I personally

cannot thank you enough.”

“Their prompt response, attention, and medical services made all of the difference and had a

tremendous positive impact in responding to my low blood sugar episode. Again, thank them

for a job well done.”

“For continuing to put forth their best efforts, despite having to adjust to the new changes;

while short-handed. These ladies and gentlemen have showed that when the test of times has

come they are ready for whatever is thrown their way. They have not only shown dedication

to their jobs, but also have shown the Agency that they are willing to work hard to complete

difficult tasks.”

“I'm doing very well and god speed with your wonderful work.”

has a positive attitude about their job and loves being a member of this Agency?

Nominations will be accepted for employees from across the Agency that represent what it means to be an Unsung Hero.

Nominees should consist of those employees who lift up their peers and coworkers, love working for Medic and their

leads by example; a silent leader. Nominees can be from any department across the entire Agency.

In February of 2012 some concerns were raised by employees about the new style of ambulances chassis and the number

of changes it contained in comparison to the older style. We listened to those concerns and together, Bryan Edwards,

Operations and Risk and Safety have modified the latest ambulances to fit your feedback and suggestions.

Moving forward, you can expect to see the following changes on the newest Medic ambulances:

Vehicle Modifications

The Quality Improvement Department is currently

conducting a small scale test of change involving our

focused CPR protocol. The purpose of this field test is to

validate a change concept developed in the simulation

center.

This change involves the Fire Captain acting as a CPR coach

while compressions are being delivered, with a goal of

further improving CPR quality. The test stations are CFD

stations 6, 42, 15 and 13. This test will last until May 15,

2013. If you run a cardiac arrest with one of these stations,

be prepared for the Fire Captain to actively give

compression feedback and count to 10 when compressions

are not being performed. The results of this test will be

shared during May InService. For questions, please contact

Steve Vandeventer at [email protected].

CPR Field Test

Medic would like to extend a warm congratulations to Relief Operations Supervisor Siobhan Klass! Siobhan will represent Medic at this year’s 2013 Burnette/Nobles Emergency Services Award Banquet on Tuesday, May 7th. Siobhan has been a valuable asset to Medic for many years and is a dedicated advocate for her patients. She provides excellent customer service on a consistent basis. Congratulations Siobhan on your 2013 Burnette/Nobles Emergency Services Award!

Congratulations!

1. The step for getting in and out of the vehicle is wider making

it easier to enter and exit the vehicle

2. Easier access to controls needed, such as lights and siren

3. A visible warning signal for backing has been installed (**important note: only to be

used when a backer is not available**)

Please feel free to use the Extranet to submit any additional vehicle modification suggestions

and/or contact Bryan Edwards at [email protected] or Amy Johnson at

MAD Golf Outing

Several big events next month will help spread awareness of Medic’s role within the

community.

During EMS Week employees trained in Community Demos will be busy at Speed

Street and Medic’s first ever Community Health Clinic.

On Wednesday, May 22nd, Medic is partnering with the YMCA in University City to

host a wellness fair offering basic health screenings, Hands-Only CPR lessons and

information about Medic. Various community partners will also have health and safety

information to distribute.

Then during Speed Street, Medic will teach Hands-Only CPR alongside the local affiliate of the American Heart Association.

Clear Channel Radio will be there as well so the potential to reach even more people with our message is huge!

Both events will allow the Agency to impact countless people and teach them about our role within the county and the

importance of bystander CPR.
