Greetings!

It seems just like yesterday that I was writing my first letter to all of you! And now we begin our second year in ministry together!

Last week at annual confer-ence as Bishop Warner Brown and D.S. Dave Samelson read the appoint-ments for the Great North-ern District I was remind-ed of just how blessed I am to be serving alongside all of you. I can not express how wonderful your love and grace for me has been as we have been in this sea-son of transition. Thank you St. Paul’s UMC for being who you are and for being willing to become who God is calling you to be. I can’t wait to see what the next year will bring.

One of the areas I already

see glimpses of our future together is in the Readiness 360 or R360 process that we have been engaged in since January. Last Sunday, the Readiness 360 players pre-sented a skit showing some of what we have been learn-ing. Keep an eye out for more gleanings of our learn-ings. Your R360 team will be continuing to meet to develop steps and visions for the ministry of our church in the coming months.

In July and August we will have two sermon series. July I will focus on our core va lues of Belonging, Experiencing and Serving. In August I will be preaching on topics suggested by you. There will be forms for sug-gesting a topic, scripture or question that you would like to hear a sermon on at the back of the sanctuary. For over 20 years, St Paul's has collected backpacks and other school supplies for chil-dren Kindergarten-12th grade in Kid's Kottage, the emergency placement facility for Washoe County. Backpacks are especially needed, as well as simple calculators, crayons, pens, binders, etc. If this is a ministry that touches you, please bring donations to church July 17, 24 or 31. We will deliver to Kid's Kottage on the 31st, in time for staff to set up a "store" for the kids to "shop" before school begins August 8th. You can also make cash donations and Judi Jensen will shop for you. Mark the donation for Kids Kottage. Questions? Judi Jensen 674-6335

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

July August

CIRCUIT RIDER NEWS

GIRLFRIENDS OF THE CHURCH RUTH STACY

Many thanks go to Robin Pratt and Shirley Van Damme for hosting our Fathers’ Day recognition. Robin made the boutonnieres and homemade cookies. Shirley brought the buckets of ice cream. Please remember to thank them.

Comfort Food Friday July 8 will feature chicken salad on a nest of Romaine lettuce with fruit, bread and dessert. Because the Ark got a very good turnout for its summer program and needs the space, please do not arrive before 5:45 pm. We plan to serve by 6 pm. Ruth Stacy will host. Help is needed in all areas, including food prep, set up, clean up and cashiering. Please remember to sign up if you are coming. Please let Ruth Stacy know if you can help.

Possible Neighborhood Party is in the works. This event is envisioned as a fun event with games for kids, social-izing, hotdogs, ice cream cones and such sometime in early August to mid-September. The idea would be to invite our neighbors, to acquaint them and to build community. Whether it comes off depends on whether it has support of the church members to help put it together and get the word out. GFC will consider it at their July 3 meeting.

The next meeting of GFC is after the 10 am service July 3. This will be the initial meeting on the Neighborhood Party, as well as the meeting to discuss when GFC will turn over hosting Comfort Food Fridays and start to help organize plans for the construction of the area to the north of the kitchen. Please come and have your voice and wisdom included.

Need for a United Methodist Women’s group with a spiritual and program basis has been raised. Although GFC has been recognized as our version of UMW, it does not perform many of the activities that are part of that program. Please let Ruth Stacy or Pat Lawrence hear from you on whether you would like to explore having a formal UMW group at St. Paul’s.

We are pleased to announce that St.

Paul's is officially the new charter organi-

zation for Boy Scout Troop 82 here in

Reno. Earlier this year we were

approached by the Scoutmaster of the

troop who was looking for a new charter

organization after losing their charter

with their former "sponsor". Our

Administrative Council voted to become

Troop 82's charter organization and help

this unit stay together and have the boys

continue to enjoy the program that

Scouting has to offer. They are a small

troop with 16 boys, but intend to grow

as they move ahead with their recruiting

efforts. Currently the troop meets week-

ly at Clayton Middle School since their

large, multi-purpose room is more con-

ducive for their activities and has been

their meeting place for the past several

years. They will be using our facilities at

St. Paul's for other events such as courts

of honor and Scout Sundays.

In June, St. Paul’s Enduring Gift Fund Team celebrated the opening of the fund with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The Sunday school children enjoyed helping hold the ribbon! The Enduring Gift Fund is a planned fund of gifts from our hearts to the mission and ministries of our church. They have enduring impact because these funds are permanent; they will be available long into the future of the church. Only the total return from such funds will be used each year. Enduring gifts may be undesignated, to be used wherever they are most needed. As a donor you also have the ability to direct your gift with your heart, specifying the area of ministry you most wish to support. If you have any questions please ask!

It is our hope that we become an active

partner with Troop 82 by sharing our

resources and providing them

with whatever support they may need.

At our recent "The Church Has Left the

Building" event in May we invited Troop

82 to participate with us at the Sparks

Marina cleanup project. We were

pleasantly surprised when they showed

up with 20+ scouts and parents. It was a

great show of faith on their part to begin

this relationship and a good example of

how we can work together on doing

good deeds for our community.

As we grow this relationship, we will

continue to invite the members and fam-

ilies of Troop 82 to our activities and

find new ways to jointly serve God and

help to expand His kingdom. A scout is

reverent...a pledge that Scouts make

every time they recite the Scout law.

ENDING HUNGER ONE STEP AT A TIME

Mark your calendars… the 2016 CROP WALK is scheduled for October 16th. This is the 25th Anni-versary of the Reno walk and we are looking to a great turnout. Any com-munity group or individ-ual is invited to participate but we are especially happy to see youth groups bring their parents. Rumor has it that the

adults are good students and learn a lot from their kids!

Volunteers are needed to assist with advance publici-ty and planning, miscella-neous duties on the day of the walk and with the after walk reporting. Planning meetings are be ing scheduled – dates and times will be sent out as soon as set. You only need to attend one meeting so watch for updates.

CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) works under the umbrella of Church World Services (CWS) and assists with helping in many c o un t r i e s i n m a n y ways….even in lil ole Reno, NV USA! The local walks bring not only the needs of those we help to light but also is a time to celebrate the accomplish-ments that have been made. Contacts: Mary Law and Judi Jensen

You are invited to join in the fun as we celebrate summer with the Children and families of Noah’s

Ark. Come to meet and mingle. Volunteers to man the grill, and serve Ice Cream are needed.

craft or story paper work, taking advantage of the awesome preschool play-ground. This relaxed schedule is a great time to try out being a helper with our amazing children. Our attendance runs between 10-15 kids per week and ages range from 3 years old to 6th grade. This Fall we will be looking at 2 classes, divid-ing the children and youth (loosely) by 5th grade and younger and 6th grade and

Faithful Obedient Hope Covenant...these are words we have been learning the last four weeks in our study of Noah, his ark and a LOT of rain and animals. In July and August we will be learning about the fruits of the spirit.

Summer is more flexible in Sunday School. We watch the weekly video, share prayer concerns then go outside. We divide into smaller groups for play,

older. More information will follow late July, early August. Your continued prayers for the spiritual growth of our children and for more teacher/helper volunteers is appreciated.
