Gospel: Luke 9: 28b-36 Wouldn't it be wonderful to see your best friend trans-formed, or turned into his or her glorified self, right before your eyes? That's the kind of experience Peter, James, and John have in today's gospel. While they are

up on a mountain with Jesus, they have a splendid vision of him in his glorified body. They see him talking with Moses and Elijah, two long-dead figures from the Old Testament. Moses represents the Law, while Elijah represents the prophets. In Jesus, both find the fulfillment of God's plan of salvation. 1.) Do we ever "test" God's love and care? How might this work against trust in God? 2.) Three traditional ways are: daily prayer, fasting, and sharing with the poor (almsgiving). How can you include these three Lenten practices into your daily life?

Jesús. Vieron a Elías y a Moisés, dos figuras muertas desde hacía mucho tiempo, hablando con él. Moisés representa la Ley, mientras que Elías representa a los profetas. 2nd Sunday of Lent - C What is the Transfiguration of the Lord?

The Transfiguration of the Lord is one of the most spectacular events in Scripture. Jesus took Peter, John and James up a mountain to pray. While there, Jesus was transformed and became dazzling. Elijah and Moses appeared and the three discussed Jesus’ travel to Jerusalem and what awaited him there: his death and resurrection. A cloud came over them and the Apostles heard a heavenly voice say, “This is my chosen Son, listen to him.” Today’s Sunday Gospel shows that Jesus was a man of prayer. In fact, one interpretation is that this was a glimpse into Jesus’ prayer. He was preparing himself for the final trip to Jerusalem and what awaited him and drew prayerful comfort from the great prophets. Often we turn to prayer only in times of trouble or danger but, by example, Jesus showed us that prayer is something for us to learn and to do regularly. When we do so, our prayer reaches a higher level and a greater meaning. By listening, we learn to hear God’s voice in us. God bless you.

2 º Domingo de Cuaresma - C ¿Qué es la Transfiguración del Señor?

La Transfiguración del Señor es uno de los eventos más espectaculares en las Escrituras. Jesús llevó a Pedro, Juan y Santiago, a un monte para orar. Una vez allí, Jesús se transformó y se hizo deslumbrante. Elías y Moisés también aparecieron y los tres discutieron la jornada de Jesús a Jerusalén y lo que allí le esperaba: su muerte y resurrección. Una nube se apoderó de ellos y los apóstoles oyeron una voz celestial decir: "Este es mi Hijo elegido, escuchadle". El Evangelio de hoy nos muestra que Jesús era un hombre de oración. De hecho, una de las interpretaciones nos dice que éste es solo un vistazo a como oraba Jesús; como se estaba preparando para el viaje final a Jerusalén, lo que le esperaba y como recibió el apoyo de los grandes profetas por medio de sus oraciones. Con frecuencia recurri-mos a la oración sólo en los momentos de dificultad o peligro, pero, por ejemplo, Jesús nos enseñó que la oración es algo que tenemos que aprender y que debemos hacer con regularidad. Cuando lo hacemos, nuestra oración llegue a un nivel más elevado y tienen un mayor signifi-cado. Al escuchar, aprendemos a oir la voz de Dios en nosotros. Dios los bendiga. Padre Alex Legaspi

Operación Tazón de Arroz: Durante la Cuaresma nos unimos orando co-mo comunidad, haciendo ayuno en solidaridad con los hambrientos, y dando a los más nece-sitados. El proyecto “Tazón de Arroz” de Catholic Relief Service nos invita a compartir con los más necesitados el dinero que ahorra-mos ayunando o dejando de comprar algo durante la Cuaresma. Nuestro apoyo ayuda a las familias de todo el mundo a través de pro-yectos de CRS para la agricultura, agua limpia, educación y microfinanzas (que estimula el crecimiento de las pequeñas empresas), asi como los proyectos de salud para madres, niños y las personas con el HIV y el SIDA. El 25% del dinero donado se utiliza en nuestro país. Por favor recoja un Tazón de Arroz de una de las puertas entrada de la iglesia; lea las reflexiones diarias, las recetas sencillas y las historias de nuestros hermanos y hermanas en todo el mundo. Próximos Eventos:

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE: La Cuaresma nos llama a la conversión, a la cual debería-mos estar dedicados toda el año. En muchas parroquias latinas la cuaresma también es tiempo de misiones. De niño recuerdo haber participado cada año en las misiones de mi parroquia. Escuchábamos a los predicadores con curiosidad, ya que aparecían solo una vez al año y luego se regresaban a lugares lejanos y desconocidos. Nunca imagine que algún día yo también estuviera como predicador de misiones. Me gustaría darles un resumen del mensaje que he sembrado en varias parroquias. Las misiones no son para repetir doctrina, sino para evan-gelizar a los bautizados. Con cinco temas se puede evangeli-zar a los bautizados recordándoles los cinco puntos claves del evangelio cristiano: 1) Dios nos ama y nos hizo para él; 2) Nosotros hemos pecado y sufrimos las consecuencias; 3) Dios nos manda a su Hijo para librarnos del mal; 4) Jesús desea formar parte de nuestras vidas personales, ¡invitémoslo! y 5) Jesús llena nuestro corazón con el poder y la presencia de su Espíritu. Announcements: Operation Rice Bowl:

During Lent we join in praying as a commu-nity, fasting in solidarity with the hungry, and giving to those most in need. Catholic Relief Service’s Operation Rice Bowl asks us to share with the needy the money we save by fasting or giving up something for Lent. Our support helps families around the world through CRS projects for agriculture, clean, water, educa-tion, and microfinance (which encourages the growth of small businesses) and health pro-jects for mothers and children and those with HIV and AIDS, 25% of the money donated is used in our country. Please pick up an Rice Bowl at any church entrance, read the daily reflections, simple recipes, and the stories of our brother and sisters around the world. Please return your Rice Bowl donation to the Parish office before Easter. Thank you. Adult Confirmation: Adult Catholics who have received the sacra-ments of Baptism and Eucharist and partici-pate in the life and worship of the Catholic community, but have not received the sacra-ment of confirmation. For Your Information: Lenten Regulations:

ABSTINENCE: All who have reached their 14th birthday are to abstain from eating meat on all Fridays during Lent. FASTING: All those who are 18 and older, until their 59th birthday, are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Only one full meal is allowed on days of fast. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together, they should not equal a full meal. Eating be-tween meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed.

The obligation does not apply to those whose health or ability to work would be seriously af-

fected. People in doubt about fasting or abstinence should consult a parish priest.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION: By now, many may have failed in Lenten disci-pline to some measure or another: the daily doughnut is simply too alluring, or a furtive puff on a cigarette irresistible. There is meaning even in the failure, though, a kind of reminder that we cannot save ourselves. Part of the power of Lent is that we do it together, and although individu-als decide on different ways to keep it, it is fun-damentally the same journey. We fall, we get up, we keep moving. The desire to “give something up” for Lent is an ageold impulse in the Christian heart. We get better at it over the years, and move more deeply into the meaning and mes-sage of acts of sacrifice; so there is no shame in stumbling, as long as we are not discouraged by the failure and give up. We are clearing space in our lives, after all, and some of the things we desire to give up are worth rooting out com-pletely anyway. What do we do with the space we have cleared out by our sacrifice? The Lenten question of giving up is balanced by the Easter question of our response to Christ’s embrace of us in love: “What are you taking on for Easter?” —James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
