Yamba Welding & Engineering have just completed construction of another two Naiads for Marine Rescue NSW, for units at Trial Bay and Lake Macquarie. These are 10m boats with aluminium stepped hulls and custom lock-up cabins. They are powered by twin Suzuki 250hp engines, and fitted with Raymarine electronics.

The boats have completed sea trials at Yamba, delighting their crews with the handling, responsiveness and sea-keeping that Naiads are known for.

An interesting development is that one of the boats is fitted with foam-filled pontoons, instead of the usual air tubes. This new system from Naiad combines the benefits of RIB style performance but with virtually bullet-proof reliability.

Internationally, deliveries of the Naiad 7.9m diesel jets continue to the US Coast Guard. These boats which are launched from the stern ramp of the new 153-foot Sentinel class cutters, also use the foam-filled pontoons. And in New Zealand, Naiad have recently completed another 9.5m boat built for Coastguard New Zealand - this one for the Waihi Beach unit.
