St. Pius V Catholic Church July 8, 2018

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

My friends,

We are literally inches away from completing the work on the cafeteria. There is only one tiny section of flooring, 12” x

36”, that needs to be laid. God-willing, the contractors will finish this on Monday and we will again be able to use the cafe-

teria without restrictions. I would be more impatient than I am except that I think of how many of you and our brothers and

sisters are still waiting for repairs to be completed on your own homes. The impact of Hurricane Harvey has indeed been

long-lasting.

The old chapel in the PLC is already usable and we will begin using it again next week for prayer, adoration, and mass. By

Friday we should have everything back in place for daily mass Friday morning and adoration all day. Restoration of part of

the old church for use as a new and larger chapel was side-lined or put on hold as we focused on recovery from Harvey, but I

would like to restart that project. If there is anyone who would like to step into the shoes of St. Francis and take charge of

the restoration, please talk with me. The whole project will go much faster if one of you can take that responsibility and

dedicate yourself to seeing the project to completion.

Last weekend, we published in the bulletin the preliminary year-end Financial Reports in summary. This weekend, I will

have a presentation after the English masses to explain these reports and what they mean for our parish life, as well as to take

questions. This 10-minute presentation should be of interest to all parishioners and, if you can, please remain after mass to

see and hear it. Next weekend I will have the same presentation in Spanish.

Please be particularly attentive to living out your call to Stewardship this summer. Our Sunday collections are so important

for the life of the parish and the summer months, when our collections tend to be smaller, are always a difficult time.

If you are travelling for vacation, may the angels accompany you and may the Lord always be with you, whether at home or

away.

Fr. Joe

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Queridos amigos,
Estamos literalmente a centímetros de completar el trabajo en la cafetería. Solo hay una pequeña sección de piso, 12 "x 36",
que debe colocarse. Si Dios quiere, los contratistas terminarán esto el lunes y de nuevo podremos usar la cafetería sin restric-
ciones. Yo sería más impaciente que soy, excepto que pienso en cuántos de ustedes y nuestros hermanos y hermanas todavía
esperan que las reparaciones se completen en sus propios hogares. El impacto del huracán Harvey ha sido de larga duración.
La antigua capilla en el PLC ya se puede usar y comenzaremos a usarla nuevamente la semana próxima para oración, adora-
ción y la misa. El viernes deberíamos haber restablecido todo para la misa por la mañana y la adoración por todo el día. La
restauración de una parte de la antigua iglesia para que usemos como una capilla nueva y más grande se dejó de lado o se
detuvo cuando nos enfocamos en la recuperación de Harvey, pero me gustaría reiniciar ese proyecto. Si hay alguien que le
gustaría ponerse en los zapatos de San Francisco y hacerse cargo de la restauración, por favor hable conmigo. Todo el pro-
yecto irá hacia completo mucho más rápido si uno de ustedes puede asumir esa responsabilidad y dedicarse a ver el proyecto
hasta su finalización.
El fin de semana pasado, publicamos en el boletín los informes financieros preliminares, en resumen. Este fin de semana
tendré una presentación después de las misas en inglés para explicar estos informes y lo que significan para nuestra vida pa-
rroquial, y también para responder preguntas. Esta presentación de 10 minutos debe ser de interés para todos los parroquia-
nos y, si puede, permanezca después de la misa para verla y escucharla. El próximo fin de semana tendré la misma presenta-
ción en español.
Por favor, esté particularmente atento a vivir su llamado a la Corresponsabilidad este verano. Nuestras colecciones domini-
cales son tan importantes para la vida de la parroquia y los meses de verano, cuando nuestras colecciones son más pequeñas,
siempre son un tiempo difícil.
Si viaja por vacaciones, que los ángeles lo acompañen y que el Señor siempre esté con usted, ya sea en su casa o
fuera.
P.Joe
14th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Find the Missal (Ordinary of the Mass) at 150 in Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song
First Reading EZ 2:2-5
As the LORD spoke to me, the spirit entered into me and set me on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking say to
me: Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, rebels who have rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have
revolted against me to this very day. Hard of face and obstinate of heart are they to whom I am sending you. But you shall
say to them: Thus says the LORD GOD! And whether they heed or resist—for they are a rebellious house— they shall know
that a prophet has been among them.
Responsorial Psalm PS 123:1-2, 2, 3-4 R. Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for his mercy.
Second Reading 2 COR 12:7-10
Brothers and sisters: That I, Paul, might not become too elated, because of the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the
flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I begged the Lord about
this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” I will
rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content
with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am
strong.
Gospel MK 6:1-6
Jesus departed from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples. When the sabbath came he began to
teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, “Where did this man get all this? What kind
of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands! Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and
the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.
Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own
house.” So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on
them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.
El Misal (Ordinario de la Misa) esta en Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song a Partir de 150
Primera lectura Ez 2, 2-5
En aquellos días, el espíritu entró en mí, hizo que me pusiera en pie y oí una voz que me decía: "Hijo de hombre, yo te envío
a los israelitas, a un pueblo rebelde, que se ha sublevado contra mí. Ellos y sus padres me han traicionado hasta el día de
hoy. También sus hijos son testarudos y obstinados. A ellos te envío para que les comuniques mis palabras. Y ellos, te
escuchen o no, porque son una raza rebelde, sabrán que hay un profeta en medio de ellos".
Salmo Responsorial Salmo 122 R. Ten piedad de nosotros, ten piedad.
Segunda lectura 1 Cor 12, 7b-10
Hermanos: Para que yo no me llene de soberbia por la sublimidad de las revelaciones que he tenido, llevo una espina clavada
en mi carne, un enviado de Satanás, que me abofetea para humillarme. Tres veces le he pedido al Señor que me libre de esto,
pero él me ha respondido: "Te basta mi gracia, porque mi poder se manifiesta en la debilidad". Así pues, de buena gana
prefiero gloriarme de mis debilidades, para que se manifieste en mí el poder de Cristo. Por eso me alegro de las debilidades,
los insultos, las necesidades, las persecuciones y las dificultades que sufro por Cristo, porque cuando soy más débil, soy más
fuerte.
Evangelio Mc 6, 1-6
En aquel tiempo, Jesús fue a su tierra en compañía de sus discípulos. Cuando llegó el sábado, se puso a enseñar en la
sinagoga, y la multitud que lo escuchaba se preguntaba con asombro: "¿Dónde aprendió este hombre tantas cosas? ¿De
dónde le viene esa sabiduría y ese poder para hacer milagros? ¿Qué no es éste el carpintero, el hijo de María, el hermano de
Santiago, José, Judas y Simón? ¿No viven aquí, entre nosotros, sus hermanas?" Y estaban desconcertados. Pero Jesús les
dijo: "Todos honran a un profeta, menos los de su tierra, sus parientes y los de su casa". Y no pudo hacer allí ningún milagro,
sólo curó a algunos enfermos imponiéndoles las manos. Y estaba extrañado de la incredulidad de aquella gente. Luego se fue
a enseñar en los pueblos vecinos.
St. Pius V Catholic Church July 8, 2018
Organ Update After Harvey, we began noticing some issues with our
beautiful organ.
We found that the organ has extensive water damage
and the interior surfaces and valves are full of mold
and mildew. There is damage to the structures that
support the wind chest and pedal key action. Wood has
warped making some of the stops inoperable and others
stuck. All of the leathers and seals will also need to be
replaced. And we are still unsure of the complete
extent of the damage until it is taken apart to access the
eternal areas. That’s the bad news.
Now for the GOOD NEWS! The Parish Community
of St. Cecilia in Houston has been extending grants to
parishes with hurricane damages. Fr. Joe applied for a
grant and we are happy to announce that we were
chosen to receive a generous grant of $10,000.00 to
help us begin repairs on our organ! It won’t cover the
entire cost but it certainly will give us a good start.
What is quite wonderful is that St. Cecilia is the
Patron Saint of Music. So thank you St. Cecilia
for answered prayers! And with deep gratitude we
thank the Parish Community of St. Cecilia for their
generosity!
Actualización de órgano Después de Harvey, comenzamos a notar algunos
problemas con nuestro hermoso órgano.
Descubrimos que el órgano tiene un gran daño causado
por el agua y que las superficies interiores y las
válvulas están llenas de moho y hongos. Hay daños en
las estructuras que soportan el cofre de viento y la
acción de la tecla del pedal. La madera se ha
deformado haciendo que algunas de las paradas sean
inoperables y otras estancadas. Todos los cueros y
sellos también deberán ser reemplazados. Y todavía no
estamos seguros de la magnitud completa del daño
hasta que se desmonta para acceder a las áreas eternas.
Esa es la mala noticia.
¡Ahora las buenas noticias! La Comunidad Parroquial
de Santa Cecilia en Houston ha estado otorgando
subsidios a las parroquias con daños por huracanes. P. Joe solicitó una subvención y nos complace anunciar que
fuimos elegidos para recibir una generosa donación de $
10,000.00 para ayudarnos a comenzar las reparaciones en
nuestro órgano. No cubrirá el costo total, pero ciertamente
nos dará un buen comienzo. Lo que es maravilloso es que
Santa Cecilia es la Patrona de la Música.
¡Así que gracias a Santa Cecilia por las oraciones
contestadas! ¡Y con profunda gratitud agradecemos
a la Comunidad Parroquial de Santa Cecilia por su
generosidad!
Please pray that catechists come forward to be the voice of Jesus to our children for 2018-2019. – O
God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of catechists to be heralds of the Gospel to our
parish family. … We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those who have answered
the call to share in Christ’s prophetic mission as catechists. May we too be open to the universal call to
service that Christ addresses to all of his disciples… We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Favor de orar para que catequistas lleguen a ser la voz de Jesús ante nuestros hijos en 2018-2019. Oh Dios, nuestro
Padre Celestial, nos has dado el don de los catequistas para ser anunciadores del Evangelio a nuestra familia
parroquial. … Oramos para que nuestra familia parroquial sea siempre bendecida con aquellos que han respondido a la
llamada a participar en la misión profética de Cristo como catequistas. Que también seamos abiertos al llamado
universal al servicio que Cristo dirige a todos sus discípulos… Lo pedimos en el nombre de Jesús. Amén.
