St. Pius V Catholic Church September 2, 2018

Many times, we overlook how important our faith family is in God’s work. Sometimes the simplest things bring us together. Just as Jesus gave us food and brought people together over “bread”, we also come together around the table of the Eucharist. We gather at other times to pray or conduct a meet-ing and many times we have food at those gatherings. How many times have you gone to our Festival or a meeting and had something delicious and wished you had the recipe. Beginning Friday, September 7, we will begin: FOODIE FRIDAYS: Nourishment for the Body and Soul on our Facebook page. We will post a parishioner’s recipe with a spiritual quote, scrip-ture or prayer. WE NEED YOUR RECIPES THAT EVERYONE ALWAYS ASKS YOU TO SHARE! Some of you might have special prayers, scripture passages or inspiration quotes that you would like to share. You can email me your recipe or prayers at [email protected] or drop off a copy for Connie Wilson at the office.

¡RECETAS NECESARIAS! ¿Cuántas veces has ido a nuestro Festival o una reunión y has probado algo delicioso y deseó haber tenido la receta?

RECIPES NEEDED! I always get what I think are my best ideas while I’m in the shower. The only problem is I can’t write them down! Last week while standing in the shower, I began reflecting on the Bread of Life Dialogues that we have heard in the scriptures for the last few weeks. I thought about how many ways we are nourished by God.

The Offices will be closed on Monday, September 3rd for Labor Day and reopen Tuesday the 4th. Have a safe holiday.

Ten unas vacaciones seguras.

My dear friends,

If ever you end the day wondering if you have done any good, think of this letter which we received today along with a money order. This is your work in supporting our social ministry, in volunteering for our food pantry, and in welcoming all of our brothers and sisters in need.

First of all, I would like to, “May the Lord bless you and all your staff, and members, and teachers. I would like to give to your church $100.00 on my behalf. I don’t go to church at all, but my faith has always belonged to my God, my Father, and Brother, the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I am blessed to wake up every morning and my Father and Brother are so good to me, I would like to share a little of what God and Jesus gave to me. Please accept this blessing and gift. It comes from my heart. I want to say thank you for your blessing you gave me when you helped me with food. When you and your staff gave food to the needy, well, I was the one in line and needy. So I want to say thank you. My babies ate well. Thank you, and may our Father bless you and your staff and church to help more needy families.

May God bless.

Indeed, may God bless you.

Fr. Joe ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

P. Joe

Living Our Faith… Parish Social Ministry

This is the last characteristic of an Everyday Steward. We have covered the first five which are: mindful, prayerful, grateful, gracious,

committed, and finally, accountable. This characteristic speaks to the value of community and the role we are called to play in each other’s

lives. If people do not hold us accountable and we don’t hold ourselves accountable we could begin to live a lie, as we believe that we are

living a true Christian life. We need to become involved in a group inside or outside the faith community where people can lean on each other

and speak truth in love. This is what will hold us accountable for our practiced faith.

Dynamic Catholics for this week: Sept. 2 – St. Gregory the Great, Memorial: Pope Saint Gregory I (Latin: Gregorius I; c. 540 – 12 March 604), commonly known as Saint

Gregory the Great,[1] was Pope of the Catholic Church from 3 September 590 to 12 March 604 AD. He is famous for instigating the first

recorded large-scale mission from Rome, the Gregorian Mission, to convert the then-pagan Anglo-Saxons in England to Christianity.[2] Gregory is also well known for his writings, which were more prolific than those of any of his predecessors as Pope. [3] Throughout the

Middle Ages, he was known as "the Father of Christian Worship" because of his exceptional efforts in revising the Roman worship of his

day.[5]

Gregory is a Doctor of the Church and one of the Latin Fathers. He is considered a saint in the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox

Church, Anglican Communion, and some Lutheran denominations. Immediately after his death, Gregory was canonized by popular acclaim.[6] The Protestant reformer John Calvin admired Gregory greatly, and declared in his Institutes that Gregory was the last good Pope.[7] He is

the patron saint of musicians, singers, students, and teachers.[8]

Sept. 8 – Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Feast: The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, The Nativity of Mary, or the Birth of the

Virgin Mary, refers to a Christian feast day celebrating the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In the case of saints, the Church commemorates their date of death, with Saint John the Baptist and the Virgin Mary as the few whose birth

dates are commemorated.

Viviendo nuestra fe…. Ministerio social parroquial

gracia, comprometido y, finalmente, responsable.

fe practicada.

Moses said to the people: "Now, Israel, hear the statutes and decrees which I am teaching you to observe, that you may live, and may

enter in and take possession of the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you. In your observance of the

commandments of the LORD, your God, which I enjoin upon you, you shall not add to what I command you nor subtract from it.

Observe them carefully, for thus will you give evidence of your wisdom and intelligence to the nations, who will hear of all these statutes

and say, 'This great nation is truly a wise and intelligent people.' For what great nation is there that has gods so close to it as the LORD,

our God, is to us whenever we call upon him? Or what great nation has statutes and decrees that are as just as this whole law which I am

setting before you today?"

Responsorial Psalm PS 15 R. The one who does justice will live in the presence of the Lord.

Second Reading JAS 1:17-18, 21B-22, 27

Dearest brothers and sisters: All good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom

there is no alteration or shadow caused by change. He willed to give us birth by the word of truth that we may be a kind of firstfruits of

his creatures. Humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you and is able to save your souls. Be doers of the word and not

hearers only, deluding yourselves. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows

in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Gospel MK 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23

When the Pharisees with some scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus, they observed that some of his disciples ate

their meals with unclean, that is, unwashed, hands. —For the Pharisees and, in fact, all Jews, do not eat without carefully washing their

hands, keeping the tradition of the elders. And on coming from the marketplace they do not eat without purifying themselves. And there

are many other things that they have traditionally observed, the purification of cups and jugs and kettles and beds. — So the Pharisees

and scribes questioned him, "Why do your disciples not follow the tradition of the elders but instead eat a meal with unclean hands?" He

responded, "Well did Isaiah prophesy about you hypocrites, as it is written: This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far

from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines human precepts. You disregard God's commandment but cling to human

tradition." He summoned the crowd again and said to them, "Hear me, all of you, and understand. Nothing that enters one from outside

can defile that person; but the things that come out from within are what defile. "From within people, from their hearts, come evil

thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly. All these evils

come from within and they defile."

El Misal (Ordinario de la Misa) esta en Oramos Cantando/We Pray in Song a Partir de 150

Primera lectura Dt 4, 1-2. 6-8

Salmo Responsorial Salmo 14 R. ¿Quién será grato a tus ojos, Señor?

Segunda lectura Sant 1, 17-18. 21b-22. 27

escucharla, engañándose a ustedes mismos.
