THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

First Reading: 2 Maccabees 7:1-2, 9-14 A king tortured a Jewish family, and tried to make them violate the laws. They all refused to give in and violate the laws. All of the family members told the king they would rather die at his hands than surrender their hope of being resurrected by God. Second Reading: 2 Thessalonians 2:16—3:5 Paul prays that the Thessalonians will be strengthened by God. He also asks them to pray that God's word will continue to spread, despite the persecution of Christians that was occurring at that time. Gospel: Luke 20:27-38 Jesus encountered some Sadducees who did not be-lieve in resurrection. Jesus refuted them by quoting Moses, who called the Lord the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Jesus then said. "God is not the God of the dead but of the living. All are alive for him."

PARISH CENSUS ST. CHRISTOPHER PARISH

We are nearing the end of Phase III of updating the parish census for St Christopher Parish. To date, after 2 mailings, we have heard back from ONLY 2/3 of the fami-lies. This has been a long and expensive process and we ask everyone’s cooperation. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT EACH FAMILY RESPOND. Do not assume that “they know who I am” or “I’m there most Sundays”.

If we do not hear from you, we will assume that you have moved or no longer consider yourself to be members of St. Christopher Parish. We will remove you from the parish census and further mailings. However, we will al-ways keep your parish and sacramental records and they will always be available to you.

We plan to begin PHASE III (the 2nd mailing) for St. Theresa Parish in the next month with the same criteria as above.

Again, we ask everyone’s cooperation, PLEASE. We have well over 2,000 from both parishes. All informa-tion on each individual member of the family has to be re-entered into the census. This is very time consuming as well as the expense for each mailing.

ROSARY FOR ELECTION Today, November 6, St. Christopher's Church will open its doors at 2:30pm. The Rosary will be said at 3pm for our future president and for life issues. All are welcomed.

ST. THERESA FINANCE COMMITTEE St. Theresa Finance Committee will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 16th at 6:30pm at St. Theresa Rectory.

ELECTRONIC GIVING

What do I have to do to set this up? Many of you al-ready pay your bills electronically – this is no different. Contact you banking institution to set this up. The bank will send your parish a check for the amount you have indicated on the day you have selected. Some people do this weekly, others monthly. But I won’t have anything to put in the collection bas-ket. Starting with the next budget envelope packet, there will be a box to check off on each envelope that reads “I gave electronically”. You can use this to place in the collection if you choose. What benefit is there to electronic giving? Giving elec-tronically on a set schedule not only makes is easier for you it also assists the parishes when planning budgets. The budget packet will also be a budget aid to you, letting you know in advance when there is a special second col-lection for the parish or a Diocesan or National collection.

WOMEN’S GUILD Women's Guild Meeting: Monday, November 7th at 6:30pm, St. Christopher’s Church Hall. Following a short business meeting, Donna Amaral will speak at 7pm on managing Stress in a Stressful World. Donna, parishioner of St. Theresa’s parish, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in mental health for over 34 years, will talk about how to live a more balanced life using the Wellness Triad. All women of the parishes are invited to attend.

ROSE SALES RESULTS Thank you to everyone who participated in our An-nual Pro-Life Rose Sale to benefit the Mother of Life Center in Providence. Because of your generosity, $731.00 was raised by St. Theresa’s and $294.00 was raised by St. Christopher’s.

Thank you again!

This Tuesday is Election Day. Here is a voter's guide to help you make your voting decisions. The Holy Father has said " Vote according to your conscience." A good way to understand your conscience is simply this: How would you explain to God your voting decisions? If you form your decisions through prayer, through the Church's teachings and a close examination of the candidates, then you will be able to stand before the Lord and give an account of your vote. Pray about your voting decisions knowing that, as a decision of your conscience, you are making it before the Lord. Above all we need to remember that no matter who wins Jesus is still our King. I am Fr Shemek and God approves this message. St. Christopher Church sanctuary floor renovation is in progress.

CDS and PAMPHLETS NOW AVAILABLE

“Put Not Your Trust in PRINCES” Speaking from his perspective as a historian, Christo-pher Check reminds us that the crisis of our age is cultural and, in the end, spiritual. He explains that a flourishing society is not achieved through legislation or at the ballot box, but instead radiates from the family out. Using ex-amples from the ages, he connects us with our rich patri-mony as Catholics and provides practical advice on what we must do to transform our culture for Christ. The CD’s along with other informational pamphlets and prayer cards can be found in the stand at the back of each church. A good will offering would be appreciated BUT NOT NECESSARY. If after you have enjoyed the CD and don’t want to keep it, please pass it on or return it to the CD holder for someone else’s use.
