preference. We would welcome some new volunteers for these roles. As parish groups open up again, the Toddler Group will now be able to extend numbers each day from Monday to Thursday. Please let Bev know if you wish to attend on 07855 521102. If you do book, please honour the booking so that we are not turning away other people. The Walking Club will take a break for winter after this Sunday and resume again in March. Thanks to all who have helped organise the club. New Servers Course will be after Half Term, see overleaf for details. Any child wishing to become an Altar Server at St Augustine’s, please come to the front of the church at the end of the Sunday morning 10.30am Mass for training. Please be aware of the Assisted Dying Bill, which is very worrying from a moral point of view. Doctors are not happy with this and as Catholics, we should express our concerns with the pressure it puts on the sick and elderly. Please consider writing to the MP Taiwo Owatemi - Email: [email protected], Tel. No. 0207 219 5842. Next month, we have our Masses for the Holy Souls. The envelopes are available this weekend. Please return your list of names and donations in the envelopes provided. The donations support the work of our SVP. The names are read out at each Mass in November. Next weekend the Coventry Half Marathon will pass by Christ the King Church. I know you are used to the route now and hopefully it won’t disrupt the morning masses too much! We welcome Vivien McDonald as the new Headteacher at St Augustine’s School. We are delighted to have made such a good appointment and wish her every blessing as she starts her role after Easter. Dear Parishioners, On Thursday Fr Chris left the parish to take up his new appointment at Alton Castle and Alton Parish. We wish him well and when he has settled in, we will invite him back for a Mass of Thanksgiving. Please keep him in your prayers. He will still see some of our young people in the Youth Group and from our parish schools. As Fr Chris leaves the parish, Fr Dominic Chukka will be living in retirement in the parish. He will be using the bungalow in Fullers Close, previously used by Fr Michael Stack. Fr Dominic will divide his year between India and Coventry and will be a help over Christmas and Easter periods. This week we have a large number of funerals, so please keep all these families in your prayers. Last week we had the Pastoral Letter from the Archbishop asking us to begin the process of being a listening Church that is more outward looking. Over the next weeks leading up to Christmas, I will be asking you for ideas for the parish, looking at what we do well and how we can reach out to those who feel excluded from the Church and how we can listen to their concerns. We will also be having a suggestion box at the back of the church and will invite you to send in email comments, so that we can look at what at our priorities should be. I see it as a good opportunity to renew our parish and take a fresh look at things. The new card machines are now at the back of church and if you want to register to use your card, you can do so on http://ctkcov.mydona.com/. The machine can now take payments for your second collections and for purchases in the Piety Shop. We will be trying to resume the regular rotas for readers, ministers, altar servers, children’s liturgy, tea and coffee after mass. are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact the presbytery for an application form and role description details. Many families

have benefitted from the great work of Myton Hospice.

Make an Act of Spiritual Communion This can be done whilst you watch a live stream of Mass being offered by saying the following prayer: “My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.” Sacrament of Reconciliation The Bishops have asked that all should make a Perfect Act of Contrition. Perfect contrition (or a Contrition of Charity) is true and real sorrow for our sins which is created when we realise the immense love of God for each one of us. We express this contrition when we realise how we offend God by our sinful words, deeds and omissions in contrast to the immeasurable love and mercy that He continually shows us. This requires us to be contrite of heart for what we have done, know and be overwhelmed by the love and mercy of God for His children, and to approach this grace with humility and resolution not to sin again. An Act of Contrition My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Saviour Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy.

These mass times have been agreed by the Deanery as we begin to open up churches for public

worship in accordance with Government and Church Guidelines.

You are encouraged to make use of webcam masses if this is still the best option for you. To consider

the masses during the week as there is no Sunday obligation and these masses are likely to be less

crowded. Perhaps, only think of coming to mass on Sunday if there is no other option.

The parishes will review mass times and frequency of masses over the next couple of weeks when we

have a chance to judge the numbers required moving forward.

Thanks for your co-operation. We are pleased that we can begin to come to church, but our safety

and the safety of others is still paramount and we hope that Priests, individuals and parish

communities do not feel under pressure to open churches in a way that puts people at risk.
