SPECIAL EVENTS ORDINANCE The purpose of this ordinance is to assure the safety and enjoyment of all participants and guests of the festival. The ordinance prohibits the posses-sion of open intoxicants or the consumption of alco-holic beverages in the festival area unless the bev-erages are purchased from and dispensed by a vendor licensed for outdoor sales and has been approved by the City Council. Bringing any container of alcoholic beverages into the special events area is also prohibited. The ordinance further restricts animals, bicycles, skate-boards, roller skates, roller blades, or other similar devices, except those needed to assist persons with disabilities. People who refuse or fail to comply with the ordinance will be subject to corrective ac-tion. Our goal is to provide a fun and safe environ-ment where families and friends can come together and enjoy a festive weekend filled with exciting ac-tivities for everyone. We are looking forward to a successful event and ask for your cooperation and assistance in adhering to the restrictions set forth in the ordinance.

Facts about the fest Kids’ Korner There are plenty of things for kids to do at the 2014 Summer Festival! Just head to Elm Street, where you will find the News-Herald Newspapers Kids’ Korner. It all begins on Friday with the return of the Children’s Play-market. Kids can let their imagination and crea-tive juices flow when they enter the Playmar-ket. Inside the tent, kids can create an array of arts & crafts, participate in activities and win prizes. What more could a kid want? How about the traditional Kids’ Korner game of skill, candy scramble? This and more await the little ones when they visit the Korner at its new location. The Trenton Fire Department will once again host an open house at their down-town fire station. Youngsters will have the opportunity to learn about fire safety and prevention. Also, youngsters can become a junior firefighter and try their hand at operating a fire hose! It all takes place in front of the Trenton Fire Station No. 1, located at the corner of Maple Street and West Jefferson. A small fee will be charged for the games. Look for them at this year’s Kids Korner, open Friday & Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.

The Rockets In 1972, The Rockets were founded by former Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels mem-bers, Johnny "Bee" Badanjek and Jim McCarty. Badanjek was the driving force and primary songwriter for the Rockets when the band began its signature hard-driving sound that Detroit fans demanded. In the 70’s they rocked the charts with “Oh Well" and "Turn up the Radio." In 1980, with the release of “No Ballads,” Desire", The Rockets continued to thrill audiences with their dynamic pure rock and roll and the Detroit trade-mark sound that began decades earlier with Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. Friday

Night

Mega 80’s The Mega 80’s will take you back to when Michael Jackson and Members Only jackets ruled; this show is nonstop action. Extraordinary video ef-fects and retro music vid-eos have crowds remi-niscing about the last dec-ade of innocence. The show features innovations such as Mega-Vision, 30 second clips of television from the 80’s, to video footage of your favorite Atari 2600 games. Hailed as one of the continuously larger drawing acts in Michigan, it’s no wonder they have become in-grained permanently as Detroit’s “must see” act!

Have a photo taken at a Trenton event you’d like to share? You are wel-come to send them to the Trenton Trib and we’ll consider them for publi-cation. Please email them to info@ trenton-trib.com and include de-tails about where the photo was taken and who is in it.

Amazing & Beautiful Butterflies Katja Hilton and John Loveland Middleburg, Fla. Entomoligist Katja Hilton decided to get creative with her work as a scientist of the bug industry. Being a col-lector of many butterfly species she pursued her dreams

by developing Amazing & Beautiful Butterflies is an environmentally con-scious company. Most of the Butterflies and In-sects are raised in small local butterfly farms all over the world. This helps to preserve valu-able rainforest habitat, because raising insects

to sell provides income to these areas and offers an al-ternative to slash and burn farming or logging, thus pre-serving tropical forests. Another side effect of Butterfly farming has been “Eco-tourism,” which further preserves valuable habitat. Habitat destruction is the main threat to our natural environment, and Butterfly farming helps pre-serve the entire ecosystem. They believe catching and using butterflies from the wild is not only uneconomical, but the specimens are invariably damaged and of no use for this type of art. Their displays convey and show off the beauty and diversity of insects and hopefully encourage people, par-ticularly the younger generation, to realize how important it is to preserve Natural areas and the beautiful creatures within them. No butterflies or insects used in these dis-plays are endangered species. All are legally imported into the US as regulated by the US Fish and Wildlife De-partment. This makes their butterfly displays the perfect environmentally friendly gift for teachers, scientists, such as entomologists, private collectors, and anyone who appreciates the amazing beauty of butterflies. “After a show in Chicago, we will spend a few weeks at home in Florida creating our new products that we will bring to the Trenton Festival.” said Katja Hilton. Because the items are so fragile and they sellout they restock and recreate after each show. They will have insect wing jewelry, computer mice with various bugs, one of a kind butterfly lamps and shadow boxes. Frames and arrangements are made in the USA. They are one of the few businesses licensed to sell these most gorgeous butterfly, moth, and insect specimens from places like Malaysia, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Peru, Madagascar, literally from all around the earth using only the most accepted farming methods. “We had to change our web site domain name, hus-bands were calling us to question holiday purchases from the web site abbutt.com” said owner Katja Hilton with a laugh, “It is now abbutterflies.com” Or like them on facebook under Amazing and Beautiful Butterflies.

Ready Industries Victor Bodrie Northville, Mich. A recent college football player, Victor Bodrie had an idea they he created and patented. He held five shows

and sold 5,000 All Ready leashes last year. This is his first display at Trenton Summer Festival and it seems he has done his research. “I

understand this area has a large amount of dog lovers.” Said All Ready Leash creator Victor Bodrie. Trenton

does have annual dog swim and a Scarecrow Fest dog costume contest that attracts hundreds of dog lovers. His product is made in Michigan with all USA items. The dog collar which has a built in leash comes in five colors and can also be ordered for a custom color. Check out this great product for your dog at their booth.

Kings Kloset Robert & Kitty Barklay Lennon, Mich. Retired GM die maker, Robert Barkley and his wife Kitty have been traveling the country for ten years selling their variety of garden and lawn items. “Originally we did wood items.” said Kitty Barklay, “But for the past five years, Robert now makes everything out of metal.” The hottest selling item right now is a teeter totter that

rocks in wind but they also plasma cut shovels with hummingbird designs and have added solar lights to many of their decorative items. The cou-

ple has participated in the Trenton Festival for the past five years and feels it is very well organized. “We really like the people that attend, everyone is so friendly and I shop too, the quality of vendors here is fantastic.” said Barklay. The pair have nine grandchildren and Robert has a grandpa t-shirt for every day of festival. Make sure to stop in and see what he is wearing at the fair.

“Quality Custom Framing Is Our Specialty”

Feather Your Nest Charlie & Sheila Sprigg

Sandusky, Ohio This unique craftsman makes jewelry out of vintage flatware that is sixty years or older. They have an array of bud vases, napkin rings, toothpick holders, bracelets

and fork earring pendants, rings and our very own design “peeper keepers” glass hold-ers. They heard about the Trenton

Summer festival in Sunshine Artists magazine and talked with other crafters who said Trenton had a well attended festival and they needed a show for June to make their 24th of the year. “We have so many great stories behind our jewelry” said co-owner Sheila Sprigg. “We have collectibles from the 1800’s, 1940-60’s collectibles like Woody Wood-pecker sterling rings and all pieces I can tell you the year and pattern the flatware came from. On our off season we travel the country to find our pieces in antique shops and auctions and private silver sales to make our great quality silver pieces.”

The Trenton Ice Cream Shoppe Craig & Sue Primeau Trenton, Mich. Trenton residents Craig and Sue Primeau will once again participate in the Trenton Summer Festival. They will offer shaved ice as well as a new festival item Kettle Corn. “Our kettle corn will be popped fresh on the street,” Craig Primeau said. Their storefront business is located on West Road, where they specialize in a variety of ice cream-inspired treats, desserts and cake items. The shop features a wide range of flavored ice creams avail-able in a cone, cup, or mixed with candy in one of its tasty flurry treats. Birthday cakes are also available and you can pre-order for customization.

CIA-Cheesesteak Institute of America Greg Arnoldy Wyandotte, Mich. The Arnoldy family started in the festival business in the mid 1980s. The original name was Geoffrey’s Cheesesteaks, but they changed the name to CIA-Cheesesteak Institute of America in 2008. This is their second year back to festival in more than 20 years since it is not the same weekend as Wyandotte. Their CIA trailer travels all over Michigan during the sea-son. It is widely accepted that the cheese steak sandwich was born in South Philadelphia sometime during the 1930s. In the “City of Brotherly Love” one does not order a “Philly Cheesesteak” or a “Philly;” they order a “Cheesesteak.” It is outside of metropolitan Philadelphia that the terms “Philly” and “Cheesesteak” are synony-mous and interchangeable. This family serves up a mean sandwich no matter what you call it! So make sure to ask for yours, anyway you’d like, this summer during Trenton’s Festival! Their Website is at www.cheesestk.com.

Many changes have taken place with the Trenton Summer Festi-val over the years. The biggest change was last year, moving the date from the second week in July to the last week in June. This year the stan-dard “street” set up is being made over to en-close a beer garden with the main stage enter-tainment. “We think the changes will provide a more comfortable setting for guests to enjoy a bev-erage and live entertain-ment, as well as a central location for both beverage booths who are raising funds for their groups during the weekend.” Said festival chairman Scott Barr. The change will also assist police in moni-toring adult beverages which cannot be brought into the festival or taken beyond businesses who have taken out special outdoor liquor licenses for the event. Just in case you have a question, make sure to check for directional signs throughout the festival pro-vided by Oakwood Healthcare Southshore Hospital. For those looking to the Clock Tower icon for the News Herald’s Kids Korner, it has been relocated north to West Jefferson Avenue and Elm Street. The Playmar-ket and children’s games will still be offered there as well as Michael’s crafts will be available with arts and crafts for budding artists to explore. Other changes will include peppering in sponsors throughout the festival with art and crafters instead of their prior location by the police station.

Scott Barr has been in charge of crafters and artists for the festival the past 8 years and chairman the past 4 years.
