Dear Parishioners, We have found a contractor that can repair the damaged ceiling directly over the altar of our church. Over seven years ago, after the church roof was replaced, we discovered large particles falling directly onto the altar. As a result from the old leaky roof, the ceiling was com-promised with water damage. At times it con-tinues to be a close call to when the Precious Body and Blood are exposed without a pall covering the vessels that hold them. The work order and estimate have been approved; with an August 9th start date. The restoration of the lofty ceiling re-quires: scaffolds to be set up throughout the sanctuary and six rows of the front pews removed, to accomplish the re-pair. The high ceiling and flame wall will be painted while the scaffold is in place. The estimated time of completion is four weeks. Since the scaffold set up is a huge endeavor, it is not feasible for it to be removed for the celebrations of the Liturgy. During this time frame, we will be celebrating Mass on the weekends and weekdays in the parish hall/gym, using our portable altar.
We know no time is a good time to mend this damage. But we are confident in the decision that the summer is the best time, our contractor choice is solid and the knowledge that this must be done for the integrity and sacredness of the Eucharist.

As of June 7, 2021, 257 parishioners have graciously participated in the 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal at our parish, totaling $78,540.00 in gifts and pledges. Thank you so much. Your participation helps assure the continued response to our neighbors in need through 18 Catholic Charities, provides tuition assistance to Catholic school families in at-risk neighborhoods; and assists with the formation of seminarians who will serve our diocese. Twenty-five percent is also returned to our parish ministries including $19,635.00.

The use of Incense During Mass / El uso de incienso durante la misa
The Pyx - A small gold vessel that carries the Body of Christ to those who are unable to join us at the Liturgy
We are blessed to have Ministers of Communion to the Sick and Homebound here at St. Rose, led by Deacon Mike & Barb Turner. They have trained Min-isters to the Sick, who know that this is the presence of the flesh of Christ and how to use the pyx to deliv-er to those desiring to receive the Eucharist.
We know there are several parishioners who own a pyx, so that they can bring the Eucharist to their homebound loved one. If you would like to receive the Pre-cious Body of Christ in a pyx; please make sure you also have a burse (a pouch designed to where around your neck), with you for transporting the Blessed Sacrament.
The Extraordinary Ministers have been instructed to have you see a Deacon or Priest in the Communion line to receive the Precious Body of Christ. Or see one of the clergy after Mass for the Eucharist. Our main goal is to protect the Blessed Sacrament from the endangerment of ever being tampered with or desecrated. Anyone can purchase a pyx at a Catholic book store or online. Extraordinary Ministers don’t know who or who hasn’t been trained as a Minister to the Sick. Our duty and honor is to be guardians of the Body of Christ.
If you would like to be educated on the proper use of a pyx, please talk to one of the Priests or Deacons so we can help you serve your loved one.

Bringing A Pyx To Mass / Llevando un Pyx a Misa
Why do we burn incense at Mass? Love the scent or hate it, incense is a valuable part of Catholic worship. Why do Catholics use it so often? We actually derive our use of incense from Scripture: “Let my prayer be incense before you; my uplifted hands an evening offering” (Psalm 141: 2). In Revelation, John describes incense as a symbol of the prayers of the saints in heaven. In the Old Testament, incense was used for worship.
We use incense in the Mass and at Adoration to symbolize our prayers rising to heaven, and how the grace of the Mass purifies and sanctifies us. When the burning incense rises into the air, it represents our prayers going to heaven, and we’re reminded of the spiritual connection as earth and heaven meet in the sacrifice of the Mass.
In case you are allergic… we wanted to inform you that incense is used for worship at most 10 am [English] and 12 pm [Spanish] Sunday Masses.

In a letter to the faithful, dated June 1, 2021, Bishop Jaime Soto has rescinded the general dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. Beginning “June 20, 2021 all the Catholic faithful in the Diocese of Sacramento are obliged to personally attend and actively participate in the Sunday celebration of the Sacrifice of the Mass (Cannon 1247).” “...individuals are not obligated to attend the Eucharist on Sunday or other obligatory solemnities if they are sick, have a vulnerable health condition, are caring for someone with a vulnera-ble health condition, or other serious reasons (Canon 1245; Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2181).” We have been given permission to return to 100% seat-ing capacity inside the church. We are asked to continue observing “sensible public health precautions.” Practice frequent hand washing and use of hand
sanitizer Please refrain from physical contact with others out-
