FIRST DAY OF ADVENT SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2019 PRIMER DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO DOMINGO 1 DE DICIEMBRE DEL 2019 FROM FATHER DAN Dear Parishioners, This Advent is different from every other Advent that we have ever lived, ever. It is different because we are different. In the past year, we have changed. We have another year of life under our belts. Maybe it was a year full of successes, joys, and advances. Maybe it was a year full of failures and sins. Maybe it was a year of suffering and hardship. Whatever happened during the past year, it has affected us. We have more experience, more knowledge, and, we hope, a little more wisdom and a deeper love for God and neighbor. As a result, when we turn our attention once again to Advent, to the three comings of Christ: his first, 2000 years ago; his last, sometime in the future, and his ongoing one, through his grace, his providence, and the sacraments - when we turn our attention to these three comings of Christ, we will see something new, something different. Jesus Christ is God. He is infinite beauty, power, goodness and truth. We can never know him completely. He is an inexhaustible treasury of greatness. Because of our life experience during the past year, we are now ready to discover new facets of this treasure, new levels of meaning, wisdom, strength and joy. God's providence has been preparing us over this past year, so that we could now learn things about God and his plan of salvation that he couldn't show us before, because we weren't ready. All three of those comings of Christ have the same purpose: to reestablish and deepen our friendship with God. He is looking forward making that happen, to deepening our friendship with him, in these coming weeks of Advent. Good coaches stress the fundamentals. A good coach isn't always trying to reinvent the fundamentals of the sport. A good coach makes sure the players never lose sight of the fundamentals, makes sure the players keep practicing the fundamentals. The spiritual life is like that. God wants us to grow, to experience wisdom, happiness, and fruitfulness. And to do so, he constantly leads us back to the fundamentals of our faith. The liturgical seasons are like a spiritual gymnasium, where we can always go back to exercise and strengthen our awareness of the basic truths that Christ has revealed to us. These truths are the building blocks of holiness and happiness. In Advent, we focus on the truth of Christ's coming. In Bethlehem two thousand years ago he was born once, so that we could be born twice. In every generation he is constantly being born through the Eucharist, so that we can have the strength and grace to become grown-up Christians. And at the end of time he will give birth to a new heaven and a new earth, so that we can live forever with him in everlasting, abundant, adventurous happiness. God is our coach, and Advent is one of his training camps. Let's give it a good effort. So what can we do? One possibility is to sign up for BestAdventEver.com to get an email sent every day of Advent. Or/and Get the Advent copy of Magnificat, or sign up for Bishop Barron’s Advent reflections. Allow God to draw you closer to Him this Advent by removing some obstacles in your path. May God bless you, Fr. FIRST DAY OF ADVENT SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2019 PRIMER DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO DOMINGO 1 DE DICIEMBRE DEL 2019

Queridos Feligreses:

Dan

ADVENT PANELS OVERALL

SCRIPTURE INSPIRATION

“The people who walked in darkness

have seen a great light! Upon those who

dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone.” (Isaiah 9:1

The theme of the painted panels attempts to capture the Advent anticipation of the Lord’s coming, in graduation of color (dark to light) , simple shapes, and to express this mood of anticipation in a modern art form, to express the soulful longing of the ages in contemporary non-objective art and the belief that modern art can enhance the worship space. These panels were first exhibited in St. Jerome Parish in 1982, one panel per Sunday. Week One, Panel One – into the gloomy unsaved matter (humanity) the inkling of light begins to dawn. The ancient Promise of a Savior begins to materialize! Stay awake! Your Salvation draweth neigh!
