SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
ENTRANCE ANTIPHON
Be my protector, O God, a mighty stronghold to save
me. For you are my rock, my stronghold! Lead me,
guide me, for the sake of your name.
THE COLLECT
O God, who teach us that you abide in hearts that are
just and true, grant that we may be so fashioned by
your grace as to become a dwelling pleasing to you.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and
reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever.
Amen
FIRST READING (Leviticus 13: 1-2, 44-46)
The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, ‘If a swelling or scab
or shiny spot appears on a man’s skin, a case of leprosy
of the skin is to be suspected. The man must be taken
to Aaron, the priest, or to one of the priests who are his
sons. ‘The man is leprous: he is unclean. The priest
must declare him unclean; he is suffering from leprosy
of the head. A man infected with leprosy must wear
his clothing torn and his hair disordered; he must shield
his upper lip and cry, “Unclean, unclean.” As long as
the disease lasts he must be unclean; and, therefore
he must live apart; he must live outside the camp.’
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
R: You are my refuge, O Lord; you fill me with the joy
of salvation.
Happy the man whose offence is forgiven,
whose sin is remitted.
O happy the man to whom the Lord
imputes not guilt,
in whose spirit is no guile. R
But now I have acknowledged by sins;
my guilt did not hide.
I said: “I confess my offence to the Lord.”
And you, Lord, have forgiven
the guilt of my sin. R
Rejoice, rejoice in the Lord,
exult, you just!
O come, ring out your joy,
all you of upright heart. R
SECOND READING (Corinthians 10: 31-11: 1)
Whatever you eat, whatever you drink, whatever you
do at all, do it for the glory of God. Never do anything
offensive to anyone – to Jews or Greeks or the Church
of God; just as I try to be helpful to everyone at all
times, not anxious for my own advantage but for the
advantage of everybody else, so that they may be
saved. Take me for your model, as I take Christ.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Alleluia, alleluia! May the Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ enlighten the eyes of our mind, so that we can
see what hope his call holds for us. Alleluia!
GOSPEL (Mark 1: 40-45)
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark
Glory to you, O Lord.
A leper came to Jesus and pleaded on his knees: `If
you want to' he said `you can cure me.' Feeling sorry
for him, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched
him. 'Of course I want to!' he said. `Be cured!' And
the leprosy left him at once and he was cured. Jesus
immediately sent him away and sternly ordered him,
`Mind you say nothing to anyone, but go and show
yourself to the priest, and make the offering for your
healing prescribed by Moses as evidence of your
recovery.' The man went away, but then started
talking about it freely and telling the story everywhere,
so that Jesus could no longer go openly into any town,
but had to stay outside in places where nobody lived.
Even so, people from all around would come to him.
The Gospel of the Lord
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS
May this oblation, O Lord, we pray, cleanse and
renew us and may it become for those who do your
will the source of eternal reward. Through Christ our
Lord.
Amen
COMMUNION ANTIPHON
They ate and had their fill, and what they craved the
Lord gave them; they were not disappointed in what
they craved.
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Having fed upon these heavenly delights, we pray, O
Lord, that we may always long for that food by which
we truly live. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen

ASH Wednesday Please see the Parish Diary for the times of Masses. Parish Retreat Days During the recent consultation in our parish it was suggested that there could be Days of Retreat organised. This Lent – to Prepare for the Great Three Days of the Liturgy (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday) there will be three Friday Retreats at St. Edward’s Church, Sutton Park. These will take place on Fridays: 23rd Feb, 9th March and 23rd March. Beginning at 10am and concluding by 2.45pm (for parents with Children to collect from School). The days will include times of input, reflection, prayer, Exposition and the option of the Sacrament of Penance. These days are open to anyone from the parish – but please let the Parish office know that you would like to attend so that we can ensure enough Tea! (Bring own packed lunch and a Bible). There is no charge just a warm welcome. Stations of the Cross This Lent there will be a variety of times across the parish when Stations are being led by members of the local community:
Fridays at 7.30pm at St Joseph’s
Sundays at 3.15pm at St Mary’s
Wednesdays after 10.00am Mass and 7pm at St Edwards
Lent Lunchtime Mass During Lent there will be an additional Mass on Thursdays at 12.45pm in St. Joseph’s Church to enable workers in the town to attend.
24 Hours with the Lord Once again this year we will be joining with the priests of the Deanery to offer 24 hours of Adoration and Reconciliation. The date will be confirmed following the Deanery Meeting this week. Cafod Lenten Fast Day This Year it is on February 23rd that we will be invited to FAST - abstaining from food and drink and therefore enabling us to GIVE ALMS. There will be Gift Aid envelopes available in the porches and the collection will be taken on Sunday February 25th. Reconciliation Festival The CYF team invites families with children old enough to receive the sacrament of reconciliation to the Parish Reconciliation Festival which will be held on 24 February 2018, from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm in the hall and church at St Joseph’s. The hall will be transformed, with displays, activities and stations to help your family to reflect on and prepare for reconciliation. The café will be open all day, serving homemade cakes, hot drinks and lunches. This is a wonderful opportunity to share the sacrament of reconciliation as a family. Rosary & Lenten Lunch There will be Rosary followed by a bread and soup lunch on Friday 9th March, starting at 11.30am at St. Pius Church. The Great Liturgy On Maundy Thursday – The Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be at 7pm at St. Edward’s, 8pm at St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s and 9pm at St. Pius. On Good Friday – The Solemn Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion will take place in all four Churches at 3pm. On Holy Saturday – The Solemn Vigil of Easter will take place at 7pm at St. Edward’s, 8pm at St. Joseph’s and St. Mary’s and 9pm at St. Pius.
