ReflexiónUna mujer soltera que quedó embarazada a mediados de la década de los setenta, una época más tradicional que la nuestra, nos enseñaría a leer el Evangelio de hoy de una manera impresionante. Ni el padre ni la madre la quieren ver y quieren que se vaya lejos de ahí, porque ya no es pura. Por esa razón las mujeres de ese tiempo, y a veces del nuestro, al verse rechazadas por su propia familia y muchas veces tam-bién por el padre de la criatura, “van de visita” con la abuela materna, con alguna tía soltera o a otro pueblo donde nadie sepa de ellas o de su vida.

¡Qué duros e insensibles nos hemos vuelto en este tiempo! ¡Qué hipócritas hemos sido durante tantos años, condenando a las mujeres y glorificando la promiscuidad de los hombres! ¿Cómo hemos podido hacer eso?

ReflectionA single woman who found herself pregnant in the middle of the 1970s, a time more traditional than ours, could show us how to read today’s Gospel in a very powerful way. Nei-ther her father nor her mother would have wanted to see her and would probably have wanted her to go far from them, now that she was no longer pure. That’s precisely why women in that time, and sometimes in ours, seeing themselves rejected by their own family and often by the father of the child as well, would “go visit” their maternal grandmother, an unmarried aunt, or some other town where no one knew anything about them or their lives.

Oh, how hard and insensitive we have become in our times! What hypocrites we’ve been condemning women while glorifying men’s promiscuity during so many years. How could we do this?
