SCHOOL NEWS

BIRTHRIGHT - Collections for Birthright will continue through Friday, May 10. They are always in need of diapers, lotions, receiv-ing blankets, socks and little toys. You can bring the items to school or put them in church. Thank you for your support of this year-long project. Birthright has been very grateful for all the donations from St. Joseph School. GOOD SHEPHERD PANTRY - We will collect money one more time for the Good Shepherd Pantry for this school year. On Fri-day, May 3, we ask that anyone who is able to do so bring money for the pantry. So far we have collected over $400 this school year. The Good Shepherd Pantry uses the money to buy meat for the families in need. One more request for the pantry…Can you believe that the pantry still is using food from our food drive last fall. That is amazing. However, they could use one type of food item for the summer. The meals in a can…spaghettios, lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, etc…that would help the children who are out of school for the summer. You can bring the items to school any day or drop them off in church. We will collect through Friday, May 10.

“Restoring Our Roots” Capital Campaign Cash received toward renovation: $1,491,563 Amount still owed toward pledges: $ 521,284 Campaign Total To-Date: $2,012,847

We hit a remarkable milestone in reaching the $2 million mark! Thank you all for your generous offerings!

Church Renovation Update: 5/2/2019 The roof replacement continues. Missouri Builders will begin installing metal roof panels as weather permits. The recent wind and rain has delayed install. The gutters and fascia on the clerestory have been removed. Once the upper roof is complete, the contractor will replace the clerestory vinyl siding with Berringer-stamped metal siding. The lower roofs will then be re-placed and gutters/soffit/trim will be updated. It was recently discovered that the brick on the boiler chimney above the sacristy was deteriorat-ing to the point where bricks could break loose and fall on the roof. The chimney will be taken down to a level where it doesn’t extend above the clerestory roof, at which point it will be capped. Framing for the new restrooms is complete. Plumbing rough-in will soon begin. Again, this work is being completed by our very generous and talented parishioners. Repairs to the lower windows have begun. A few of the lower level stained glass windows have had the storm windows removed and a clear exterior protective layer of glass glazing installed. Some of the obscure glass windows in the stairwells have been replaced with clear glass. Paint-ing of the window wood trim is underway. Repairs to the clerestory windows (upper windows) will not be conducted until the scaffolding has been installed in the church later this fall. Our painting contractor, Conrad Schmitt, is creating renditions to aid in interior color and scheme selection. This will allow us to view potential colors and schemes before making final decisions. We expect to view the first renditions in mid-May. The contractor plans to begin around October 1. The painting is expected to be completed by April 1, 2020. For examples of their work please view their website: https://conradschmitt.com/. Scaffolding bids are still being reviewed. Please note there will be no scaffolding installed until after October 1. We recently learned that no pews will need to be removed during the scaffolding phase. The scaffolding will sit above the pews and allow for Mass to continue. We have received two bids for the repairs to the terrazzo floor. A contractor will be selected after we have reached a decision on interior painting to ensure we have a good match. There are also two bids for pew replacement. Similar to the floor repairs, we are waiting for the painting scheme before moving forward with pew color and wood choice. This will also impact the replacement of interior wood doors, which will match the wood and color of the pews. The parish is also working to get more precise costs to help budget the remaining portions of the renovation. These include costs for scaffolding, pews, flooring, interior lighting, doors, enhance-ments to the balcony and steps, a new confessional, the clock/bell system, and other miscellane-ous items. These updated budget figures will be shared in a future bulletin. There will be various projects/tasks in the renovation where parishioner help will be needed. Some examples include: pew removal, sanctuary carpet removal, stairway carpet removal, con-fessional demolition, clean-up each week prior to Mass, etc. If parishioners are willing to assist with these tasks, it will help keep renovation costs down. Please consider helping with these tasks when the time comes.
